Chapter 201: Chapter 194 Kill 2

Shuang’er hung up the phone, grabbed the small bag in the kitchen, and immediately jogged out the door of her residence, leaving the frying vegetables in the kitchen unattended. She seemed to be in a hurry for something urgent.

Not far from Shuang’er’s residence, at a snack stall, a group of young people were enjoying their snacks. Among them, a young man was eating stinky tofu when he saw Shuang’er run out. He quickly took out his phone and sent a text message.

"She’s headed in the direction of area 2."

Following that, a newsstand owner also saw Shuang’er running past, and he likewise took out his phone and sent a text message.

One message after another kept being relayed to the phone of a dark-moled woman inside an apartment building.

Looking at the continuous flow of text messages on her phone, the dark-moled woman slightly furrowed her brow.

"Could it be that she has discovered us?"

"That shouldn’t be possible, we finally managed to evade all the forces’ surveillance, at such a great cost, even utilizing some heavily priced secret agents. There must be some urgent matter," the man beside her said gravely.

"Whether she’s discovered us or not, make your move now!" The dark-moled woman decided on the spot, turning towards the room door.

"Yes," a man and a woman replied respectfully at the same time.

A massive invisible malevolent aura suddenly spread out across the sky above the area. The grey malevolent aura continually expanded, engulfing residential buildings, shops, streets, vehicles, and the crowds; it was as though the entire world was enveloped by a thick fog.

Shuang’er kept jogging along the street, and the grey malevolent aura quickly engulfed and surrounded her too.

"Stop running, little thing," a middle-aged woman emerged from the fog, following closely behind Shuang’er without any visible movement; it was as if she was being pushed forward continuously by the grey fog. The corner of the woman’s mouth bore a large mole, giving her a particularly harsh appearance.

Shuang’er completely ignored her and kept running outwards.

The bustling street around them seemed to turn into phantom images, and as the woman chased after her, and with the woman’s aberrant appearance, it was as if the passersby noticed nothing.

"I told you to stop running!" The middle-aged woman became impatient. She took out a small round mirror and looked at her face in it. "This is why I hate using my abilities. This feeling of youth slipping away is truly disgusting," said the woman in the mirror, who was clearly a middle-aged woman with faint crow’s feet at the corners of her eyes.

Watching Shuang’er, who was still jogging ahead, the dark-moled woman hesitated for a moment but eventually raised her hand. Countless strands of grey malevolent aura split into dozens of fine threads and flew towards Shuang’er.

As these threads of malevolent aura flew, they suddenly sprouted dozens of sawtooth-filled small mouths with shiny white teeth dripping with saliva, as if they had turned from illusion to reality in an instant. The dozens of threads were like dozens of strange snakes.

Hiss!

One aura bit onto Shuang’er first. But it passed through her as if she was a mere phantom, landing in the empty space beyond.

The dark-moled woman was momentarily taken aback, lifting her hand again.

Once more, the other malevolent auras aggressively lunged toward Shuang’er.

Immediately, Shuang’er’s figure gradually faded, as if consumed by the malevolent aura, turning translucent, and finally, with a pop, she vanished like a soap bubble.

"Damn it!" the dark-moled woman stopped reluctantly, quickly turned around, and flew back the way she had come.

************

Inside the building, the Wu Family’s stronghold.

In the empty room with no furniture except a few stools and a table in the middle, sat the same man and woman from before.

"Illusion Serpent went after that little girl. We’ve also sent out the other people below. When will Ning Shuang arrive?" the woman asked.

"Not sure. Ning Shuang is quite capricious, and their scheduled times aren’t always certain, being notoriously unpunctual," the man said with a bitter smile.

Pop!

Suddenly, a crisp sound came from outside the door.

"Did you hear that sound?" the man was startled.

"Sound? No, I didn’t hear anything," the woman said in confusion.

The man immediately heard the succession of popping sounds again, as if they were the light tapping of boots on floor tiles.

"It clearly sounds like boots stepping on the floor."

"Boots stepping on..." The woman had barely started speaking when her expression suddenly changed.

"It’s the red boots! Run!" She stood up abruptly.

The man’s face also changed drastically as he stood up and dashed out.

"Go find Illusion Serpent!" he yelled as he pulled open the door.

With a click, the man rushed out of the room, only to be met with a crowded street full of people.

"Damn! We’re in a dream!" the man turned his head, and as expected, the original room had vanished, along with the woman.

A faint malevolent aura suddenly appeared on the man’s body, instantly transforming into something resembling a scepter in his hand.

"Break through!" the man cried out. A white stream of aura immediately burst from the tip of the scepter, shooting up into the sky and exploding like a firework. Countless streams of white aura rapidly fell down, and each passing stream erased the surroundings as if erasing pencil marks, revealing the room’s original furnishings. It was as if the man was surrounded by countless paintings and now these paintings had been torn, exposing the external world.

The man anxiously scanned the constantly breached scenes, which were also continually restoring themselves. His peripheral vision caught sight of a man with white short hair carrying something, sluggishly walking up to the doorway and looking inside the room with a puzzled expression.

"It’s Ning Shuang!"

The man at the doorway with white hair seemed to have noticed something too.

"A dream world, huh? Such a concealed dream is rare," he said as countless white auras suddenly emitted from him, covering everything around in a layer of frost.

The dream world the man was in quickly crystallized into frost as well. Shortly after, a soft crackling sound was heard.

With a swoosh, all the surroundings suddenly shattered, like fragments of a mirror.

The room around was still the same as before. The woman beside was also seated, sweating profusely.

In front of them, a white-haired man with short hair stood at the door, holding a black plastic bag.

"Are they red boots?" the white-haired man asked.

"Yes, yes, they are," the two replied in frightened unison.

"Not bad," the white-haired man stroked his chin. His figure suddenly turned into countless wisps of white vapor and dissipated.

**************

Shuang’er sat silently on a park bench beside the loop road around the city. She watched as people came and went in front of her. Vehicles passed through this section of the road one after another, leaving behind a strong gasoline smell. Occasionally, passersby, especially those who were more particular, couldn’t help but cover their nose and mouth, waiting for the vehicles to pass before uncovering them.

Seeing Shuang’er sitting alone on the bench, some passersby cast curious glances her way. But no one approached to ask anything. They were just curious for a moment and moved on.

This area was not far from where Shuang’er lived, and from there, one could even see the Wu Family’s stronghold building directly.

Crack...

Suddenly, a subtle sound emanated from Shuang’er’s body.

She slowly raised her hands, which were covered in white ice frost.

"Just a momentary touch, and it injured me?" Shuang’er murmured. "It’s far stronger than the Dragon’s Eye."

A black van slowly stopped in front of Shuang’er, followed by a black Audi.

The van’s door opened and closed, and Lin Fei stepped out from it. Behind him was a man in a black suit with short hair. Shuang’er had never seen this man before.

"Brother," Shuang’er stood up from the bench and went to greet him, throwing herself into Lin Fei’s embrace.

Lin Fei tenderly hugged Shuang’er. However, the man in the suit behind him was impatiently adjusting his black necktie, looking quite uncomfortable.

Shuang’er keenly sensed an aura similar to her brother’s from this man.

"What happened to your hands?" Lin Fei noticed the ice frost on Shuang’er’s hands and his expression darkened. "Was it the Wu Family’s people?"

***************

The woman with the birthmark had reverted to her youthful appearance. She returned to the base somewhat frantically only to find a group of people—more than a dozen men and women—had gathered at the base.

"Ning Shuang’s people?"

A young man stepped forward, respectfully said.

"Yes, Lord Illusion Snake, we are subordinates brought by Lord Ning Shuang."

"I’ve requisitioned them temporarily!" Illusion Snake said impatiently. "Spread out immediately from here as the center, and search for the red boots. With fifteen Dream Eaters, I refuse to believe we can’t catch you!"

"Lord, I think we need not search any longer. Someone is proactively approaching us," a middle-aged man holding a GPS-like tracker stepped forward and announced loudly.

"They’re coming?" Illusion Snake was taken aback. "How many people?"

"Three auras, including two Dream Ability users," the man replied.

"Notify Ning Shuang! Wipe them out!" Illusion Snake ordered loudly, his brows shooting up. "Anyhow, in the current Ping City, apart from our people, everyone else is an enemy!"

"Lord... Lord!! One of them is moving so fast!!" Suddenly, the middle-aged man exclaimed loudly.

"Moving so fast?" Illusion Snake was momentarily stunned and was about to ask further.

"They’re here!! They’ve arrived!! Oh my God!!" The middle-aged man’s hands were trembling.

Illusion Snake rushed over and snatched the tracker.

"There’s no need to look," a cold voice appeared at the door.

Illusion Snake abruptly turned around.

At the doorway, a handsome man in a black suit stood impatiently holding a Longsword. The silver Longsword reflected a faint silver light. He gently lifted the Longsword.

"Moon Bright, fifteen."

Clang!!

Fifteen moons lit up instantly, and countless blood splatters flew.

Rooftop of the building

A white-haired man looked on with interest at the entrance to the stairwell.

"I’ve found that coming out for a distraction this time was the right choice," he remarked.

A lean young man in a black shirt slowly emerged from the dark stairwell.

"Do you have any last words?" the youth held the Longsword horizontally in front of his chest.

"Last words?" Ning Shuang chuckled dismissively. "You think you’re capable of that?" A mocking smile curled the corners of his mouth. (To be continued. If you like this work, please come to Qidian to cast your recommendation votes, Monthly Tickets, your support is my greatest motivation.)
