Chapter 186: Chapter 179 Lu Xiuya 1_2
Before anyone else could react, Luo Yixiong spun around and delivered a slap that carried with it the faint roar of a bear. His palm, as large as a cattail leaf fan, whipped up a fierce whooshing sound, striking down like a missile towards the two Caucasian men.
The two men’s faces changed instantly, but fortunately, Luo Yixiong’s speed wasn’t fast, and they were able to dodge quickly. However, the spot where they had just evaded now bore a faint imprint of a hand on the concrete floor; it had actually been made by the sheer force of the palm wind.
One could only imagine what effect such a slap would have if it landed on a person.
"Shit!" Stephen suddenly reached for his lower back.
All the members of the Thunder God Corps around them prepared to draw their weapons in unison, adeptly starting to encircle Lin Fei and his three companions.
"Stephen! What do you think you’re doing?" A deep male voice suddenly called out. At the same time, a middle-aged Caucasian man with light yellow buzz-cut hair made his way through the crowd.
"Do you know the consequences of triggering a Barrier here?" This middle-aged man had one milky white eye, clearly a one-eyed man, and seemed to be the leader of this group from the Thunder God Corps.
"Lawrence! They were the ones who started it!" Stephen shouted back, enraged.
The one-eyed Lawrence gave Xu Zhikang and the others a quick glance.
"There’s an old saying in Hua Nation, if a dog bites you, do you bite back?"
This big man also exuded a Peak D-level aura, no less than Luo Yixiong and the others.
"Strength isn’t something you talk about, it’s proven with fists!" Luo Yixiong wasn’t angry, but looked at the surrounding Thunder God Corps members with disdain. "Trash like you can only move your lips."
These words effectively insulted all of the surrounding Thunder God Mercenaries. The foreign Caucasians, while still calm, now had a bit more fire in their eyes.
The accompanying members from Hua Nation and the pretty female tour guide, however, looked completely clueless. Obviously, they had no idea what was going on between the two groups. When they saw the conflict arise, they tried to squeeze through, but the Caucasians blocked them at the periphery.
"Alright, alright, let’s all take a step back," Xu Zhikang said with a smile, stepping forward to stand between the two sides. "We’re all here for the same purpose; let’s not damage our good relations."
With the out Xu Zhikang extended, Luo Yixiong and Stephen both backed off a bit.
The team leader named Lawrence also nodded and fell silent.
"Xu Zhikang, what are you doing? Wouldn’t it be better for us to finish the mission if we just dealt with this trash?" Luo Yixiong complained dissatisfied.
"Can you beat them? Although they have only one Peak D-level person, they have brought a lot of special weapons. They are very experienced in dealing with power users. Even if we went all out, it would be an even match. It’s better to wait until... heh heh..." Xu Zhikang said with a sinister laugh.
Luo Yixiong immediately caught on and gave Xu Zhikang a speechless look.
"Sinister enough! If they encountered Lord Xiuya... um..."
Lin Fei was originally ready to take action, but it seemed there was some sort of Barrier they needed to activate before they could fight; otherwise, there seemed to be some taboo. "What is this Barrier exactly?" he asked Feng Man beside him.
She glanced at him.
"Similar to the Holy See’s sanctuary, it can also be called a Barrier. It’s something that separates high-level Inner World combat from reality," she explained.
"Separate?" Lin Fei seized on the word.
"Yes, as if completely disconnected from reality. We can see this world, but the life in this world cannot touch us. We call it the Virtual Battlefield," said Feng Man.
Meanwhile, Xu Zhikang was whispering something to Luo Yixiong on the side.
Curiously, Lin Fei approached just in time to see Luo Yixiong holding a small knife, gently tracing a deep cut on Xu Zhikang’s arm, from which red blood slowly seeped out.
"What... are you doing?" Lin Fei asked in confusion.
"Ow, be gentle," Xu Zhikang said to Luo Yixiong, then turning to see Lin Fei. "These damn people from the Thunder God Corps! Not only did they curse at us Hua Nationals, but they also attacked me! We’re not finished with them!" Xu Zhikang said with righteous indignation, then gave Lin Fei a knowing look.
"Don’t worry about them; that guy’s ability is mainly healing. A wound like this is nothing," Feng Man said nonchalantly. "Lord Lu Xiuya may be ruthless, but she’s very protective of her own people. She takes good care of anyone from her faction, as long as they don’t anger her, that is."
The Thunder God Corps members had already walked some distance ahead, blissfully unaware that the two sneaky individuals were plotting behind them.
As the group made their way down the bridge and strolled along the somewhat old-fashioned street...
At the crossroads at the end of the street corner, a silver Volkswagen was parked quietly. Behind the wheel was the man with the silver-framed glasses seen earlier. Through the lenses, his gaze was fixed firmly on William and his group ahead.
A woman sat next to him, a cigarette perched between her lips. She wore a plain white T-shirt and jeans. Although her features were pretty, they were tinged with an air of indifference. Her not-too-long hair was tied back loosely over her shoulders.
"Huh..."
A puff of white smoke drifted out slowly.
"Is that our target?"
"Yes, William. Justin. One of the pawns struggling in the family power vortex," the man in glasses nodded.
"And those behind are the participants in this mission?"
"Three veterans and a newbie. Just not sure how this mission will unfold."
"It won’t be easy," Lu Xiuya said lightly, taking out her phone from the car window. She glanced at a text message.
"Here we go, the information on our opponents," but no sooner had she looked at it, Lu Xiuya’s brows furrowed tightly. "This is going to be troublesome."
"Oh?" The man beside her was startled. If a B-tiered fighter is using the word ’trouble,’ it certainly meant the situation was far from ordinary.
"Watanabe Yotsuha from Japan, a top-tier expert of the Unthought Shinto style. Although I’ve never clashed with her, her strength can’t be underestimated. What kind of enemies did this William provoke to have such a headache?" Lu Xiuya frowned.
"It’s not too bad. Japan has been barely hanging on due to the efforts of the previous generations, and nowadays, you hardly see the kind of freaks like Tojo Tsumi among their younger generation—they’re all non-mainstream. The so-called Bushido spirit has withered along with their cherry blossoms," the man commented. "There aren’t many top-tier experts like Watanabe Yotsuha anymore. I’ve heard of this person; she was very active in Southeast Asia in the ’70s and ’80s, one of the top-tier experts of the time. Legend has it that she was originally very ugly but became incredibly enchanting after her strength became so dominant, she reshaped herself. Anyone who ever mocked her ended up dead."
"For such an expert to be persuaded to act, it must have come at a significant cost. No wonder the higher-ups assigned me to handle this. Those old geezers really do treat me like free labor," Lu Xiuya said discontentedly.
"So, we directly engage in protection duty?" the man inquired.
"Of course." Lu Xiuya raised an eyebrow, pushed the car door open, and strode confidently toward William and his group.
The Thunder God Corps member at the forefront was the first to spot the woman making a beeline toward them. "It’s Lu Xiuya!! Damn it!!"
"Lu Xiuya!! Captain!"
"My God!!!"
A Caucasian man couldn’t hold back and pulled a black pistol from his waistband, fear etched across his face.
"God save us!" A woman from Thunder God trembled as she fished out a black object—it was, unbelievably, a hand grenade.
The rest of the team became a hornets’ nest stirred up in panic, everyone tensely preparing for what was coming, including the aforementioned Caucasian captain.
The pedestrians on the surrounding streets were also startled by the group’s agitation. Xu Zhikang smiled as he pulled out some sort of identification,
"Sorry, it’s just a practice drill, filming a movie, no worries folks," he said smoothly, reciting a line he had used countless times before.
Meanwhile, Lin Fei focused her attention on the approaching woman.
"Hey, you guys still remember me," Lu Xiuya smirked, pulling at the short ponytail looped over her shoulder.
"You damn demon!" Lawrence’s eyes were bloodshot as he glared fiercely at Lu Xiuya. "Butcher! What are you doing here?!"
"What am I doing?" Lu Xiuya turned her head and casually surveyed the surroundings. "Well, I’m on a mission, of course." She then fixed her gaze on William. (To be continued.
