Chapter 144: Chapter 138 Longan 1

Lin You returned to his room with the sphere and finally let out a long sigh of relief.

"That was close...almost got discovered."

"Indeed," Feil also exhaled in relief. "Quickly check the information; it should have finished transmitting."

"Okay."

Lin You carefully took out the sphere from the small bag. The originally glass-like sphere still burned with a white flame inside, though it had dimmed considerably.

"How do I check it?"

"Just withdraw your Psychic Yuan Force from within it," Feil instructed.

Lin You did as told and withdrew his Psychic entirely. As expected, some information immediately appeared in his mind. It was all about the pursued, the Contractor of the Energy Scepter, Chris, and the enemies she faced.

"Chris, a Fire System Psychic, ability: Fire Arrows. Profession: Longbowman. Combat Power assessment: Enhanced to D-level Initial Stage," Lin You recited. "Energy Scepter Fusionist: Babanoya. Originally Chris’ maternal grandfather. Due to being completely assimilated by the Energy Scepter, his power cannot be estimated."

"It’s Babanoya," Feil seemed to recall something. "Unexpected...it’s him."

"What? Do you know him?" Lin You asked curiously.

"He was my junior back then," Feil summarized briefly. "Once the most dazzling rising star among the Five Great Scepter Families. Rumored to have later become the Clan Leader. I didn’t expect him to voluntarily merge with the Scepter. Truly, the world is unpredictable."

"You didn’t expect him? So who should have merged with the Scepter?" Lin You inquired.

"The merger with the Energy Scepter means the Fusionist will never make progress, will perpetually have no chance for improvement or strength development. Usually, it’s someone with modest talent who is chosen, and it has to be voluntary. They must also remain eternally loyal to the family. Finding such a candidate is actually quite difficult," Feil said with a trace of melancholy in his voice. However, it was fleeting and Lin You didn’t catch it.

"Okay, let’s continue with the rest of the information. Skip the events of her life; go straight to the pursuers’ situation," Feil instructed.

"All right." Lin You sat down and began to organize the information in his mind. After a short pause, he resumed narrating.

"The pursuer is Dolanna, leader of the third squad of the Baylemon family. Combat Power assessment preliminary at D-level, specialized in special system Psychic abilities, with blind spot attacks as his feature. Weapon: metal gauntlets. Impulsive personality. Has completed many important missions for the family. Currently 43 years old, one of the main combat powers in the family. Commands a squad of thirteen members, all F-level personnel, Psychic attacks are negligible, but gunmanship is strong. Suggested combat strategy: Dolanna prefers to pursue prey alone; use this habit to isolate and ambush him, which can greatly reduce the difficulty of battle."

"Not a bad recommendation. But we should make contact with Chris first. The combination of our strength with hers would make it easier to lead Dolanna away. First, tell me their location," Feil said.

"Wait...below there’s a combat data record, the last place of battle is...near the eastern suburb’s machinery factory. The time before last wasn’t too far from that either. According to estimations, Chris’ location should be not far from there."

"It should be there, as long as I get within a certain distance of Babanoya, I can directly sense his exact location. Let’s go there," Feil decided.

"When?"

"Now! While it’s still dark, it’s too easy to be discovered in the daytime."

*************

Within the spacious suite.

A peeled longan was gently tossed by Shuang’er, then she caught it precisely in her mouth and ate it. She sat in Lin Fei’s lap; both were sitting on the couch. Across from them, the projection TV was on, showing the latest local news from Coastal City. The female presenter spoke in perfect Mandarin, with no detectable Coastal City local accent.

"We start tonight," Lin Fei whispered softly. "I don’t have so much time to waste here."

Confirming whether Dream Eater Energy and the Aura of the Dream World could accelerate his own progress was a step Lin Fei had planned. This related to his overall strategy for the entire Dream Eater World. If possible, he must start planning immediately to seize the Power of True Lies to gain free access to the Dream World. If not, he couldn’t wait much longer on An Caiyuan’s side. He must return soon.

Shuang’er nodded. Her eyes wide open.

"Good Shuang’er, go help your brother find the target first," he instructed.

"Okay."

Lin Fei let Shuang’er into the bedroom.

Click.

The door gently closed.

He stood up and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window, leaning against the curtain. The reflected flow of the traffic lights outside continuously passed over his face.

*************

"So annoying, had I known I’d still have to go out, I wouldn’t have come back just now, I was almost discovered," Lin You said impatiently.

"Time is tight, we had no choice. I didn’t even realize we were so close; the mechanical factory in the eastern suburbs is just nearby, only a ten-minute walk away," Feil responded helplessly.

Past 10 p.m., Lin You, holding a black cat, quickly walked towards the mechanical factory in the eastern suburbs along the street. The scenery on both sides started to diminish with buildings becoming low, and the street grew increasingly deserted. Street lights stretched from the pavement to the distance, and under their light, there was not a soul, making it exceptionally lonesome.

Walking on the pedestrian path at the side, Lin You could even clearly hear his own footsteps. If Feil hadn’t been in his arms, he figured he wouldn’t dare to come here alone.

"The sooner we make contact with Chris and the others, the better it will be," Feil murmured. "So, hold on a little longer, Xiao You."

"I know," Lin You sighed, "From the very beginning when I chose this path, I was mentally prepared for this."

"We’re close, it’s around here." Before they reached the mechanical factory, Feil spoke quickly. "They should be just around here, a few more steps ahead."

Lin You nodded, and the duo, one man and one cat, started to slow their pace following the street.

"Turn left," Feil suddenly said.

Lin You paused; to his front left was a pitch-black alley without any light, making it impossible to see anything inside.

"They’re inside there," Feil stated confidently.

"Are you sure?"

"Of course."

"What kind of person is this Chris? Can you tell me about her?"

"Indeed, I should tell you first. The most fitting adjective to describe her would be: a fallen princess. Her family was once a major noble in Europe, but they fell from grace due to political strife. Later on, because of the Scepter family incident, their whole clan was killed—only she and her sister survived. Then, for some unknown reason, she became separated from her sister. Afterward, she formed a contract with Babanoya," Feil spoke with a touch of emotion. "From what I’ve seen in her file, her most notable traits are indifference and arrogance. It’s said that after being betrayed by her sister, she became distrustful of everyone. Even Babanoya is unable to reach her heart, making her quite a difficult ’Three-Nothing’.

"How old is she now?" Lin You suddenly asked, "The information I received shows she’s 18 years old."

"About that. She began living independently from her sister at the age of 14. With Babanoya’s amplification, originally just an ordinary mercenary in the mercenary world, nobody knew who she was. But because of this incident, the people behind Tower of Glory made her details public, leading to her being hunted down. She must have been forced to come here in search of the lingering influence of the Scepter family. But given her personality, it’s unlikely she would actively seek asylum. It’s more likely that Babanoya initiated coming to find me," Feil speculated.

"Hey, is that the girl over there that you’re talking about?" Using the faint moonlight, Lin You pointed to a girl sitting hunched in the corner of an alley.

"Cough cough..."

The girl coughed softly. A faint scent of blood wafted through the air.

Lin You slowly approached her. Suddenly, a burst of purple light shone, and a bracelet on the girl’s body fell off by itself, emitting a faint purple glow as it hit the ground.

"Feil ’big sister’," an elderly voice came from inside the bracelet. "You finally arrived."

"It seems we’re not too late," Feil said with a smile. "How is this child doing?"

"Not good," said the elder voice naturally belonging to Babanoya. "If it were not for my inability to transform back into human form..."

"Alright, let’s leave this to me," Feil cut him off, "This place isn’t safe. We should first find a safe place."

"We have no other choice."

In the dim light, Lin You couldn’t see the girl’s face clearly but noticed she had short ponytails and wore a dark, somewhat cosplay-like combat suit.

"Hey, can you stand up?" Lin You whispered. As he spoke, he remembered that this person was essentially a foreigner and might not understand Mandarin.

But that was fine.

The girl, holding her left arm tightly, gave him a cold look.

"I can," she said with a strange accent, but communication was not a problem.
