Chapter 605: Chapter 604: Annoying Fly_1
The moment he saw King, the expression on Mr. Leo’s face took on a slightly grim cast.
As a member of the old nobility, he was privy to some information unknown to the average person.
The Luca Family had become the rising star of Sicily’s nobility in such a short time,
primarily because they were backed by the Dark Empire!
Prior to this, he thought it was just hearsay, but could it actually be true?
Mr. Leo trembled at the thought of the power that lay behind the Dark Empire!
He hoped it wasn’t what he feared....
Hearing the man talk, Aliya immediately approached, her eyes full of respect.
With utmost courtesy, Aliya addressed him, "King, why have you come?"
The rise of the Luca Family among the Sicilian new nobility had highly depended on the support of the Dark Empire.
Because they had the powerful backing of the Dark Empire, the Luca Family had the audacity to do as they pleased.
"Hmm," the man offered a noncommittal reply, not even sparing a glance to anyone, his face showing complete indifference.
Yet Aliya felt an immense thrill of joy at his response.
She shot a vicious glance at Mr. Leo, then whined to King, "King, it’s just as well you’re here. I have something to talk to you about."
Pointing furiously at Yan Ling, she said, "This man, he’s just a mere bed warmer for Selena. Riding on his good looks, he dared to lay his hands on my fiancé in public."
"And then there’s the Leo Family. Their behavior is just insufferable. Even though everyone saw that jerk initiate the fight, they still dare to cover up for the offender!"
Aliya hammed up her distress, her eyes welled up with tears as if she were the beautiful victim.
Seeing Aliya flipping the truth and distorting facts, Selena was both angry and vexed.
She clenched her fists uncontrollably, her face filled with rage as she glared at her.
"Aliya, you’re lying. The truth is not as you claim!"
Hearing these words, Aliya responded with a cold laugh.
"Where exactly did I lie? I’m only stating the facts. Ask anyone who was there—it wasn’t just me who saw your lowly servant hit Belka?"
"..."
Aliya’s piercing gaze swept across the banquet hall, and everyone fell silent.
Ridiculous, who would stick their nose in at a time like this? It would be suicide!
As the saying goes, the bird that sticks out gets shot down first!
The Dark Empire already had a notorious reputation for all kinds of ruthless crimes—it wasn’t exactly new.
The Luca Family was part of their faction; who would bother about right or wrong, true or false?
As the surrounding silence persisted, hanging heavily like death, Selena’s face gradually paled.
The Luca Family was a part of the Dark Empire. If King were to believe Aliya’s slanderous tale, Wesley’s situation wouldn’t look too good.
Seeing Selena fall silent, Aliya grew even more smug, a triumphant grin beneath her eyes.
"Hmph, I’m not just making this up! The wounds on Belka speak for my words. Can you prove otherwise?"
Upon hearing his name mentioned, Belka, who was barely conscious from the pain, cried out immediately. With one hand nursing his arm, he made quite a pathetic scene.
Seeing Belka’s exaggerated cries of pain, Selena gritted her teeth and reluctantly closed her mouth.
She feared that saying too much might land Wesley in even bigger trouble.
Mr. Leo, however, couldn’t hold back and trembled with rage.
"Aliya, do you so shamelessly twist the truth because you assume the Leo Family has no one to speak for them?"
Going tit for tat, Aliya retorted, "Mr. Leo, your words are unfair. Belka is also a member of the Leo Family. If you can’t stand up for him, that’s one thing. But how can you so blatantly defend an outsider?"
The heated confrontation only served to tense up the atmosphere even more.
After hearing the version of events, King’s face turned so dark it seemed water could drip from it.
"Avelado, how can there be so many annoying flies at your party?" The man’s voice was low, filled with an icy chill like a sharp blade, intimidating and bone-chilling.
Upon hearing this, Aliya felt a secret thrill of joy and showed no mercy.
"Did you hear it, old man? King referred to your favorite servant as a distasteful fly. Why are you still keeping him here to pollute the environment?"
Mr. Leo’s expression turned ugly at her words. He wanted to defend the person he intended to be his family’s successor instinctively.
Even though their family was declining, they couldn’t just let themselves be pushed around!
Wesley was the heir he recognized; even if it meant offending the Dark Empire, he would still protect him.
Just as Mr. Leo was about to voice his thoughts, King spoke up again. But this time, he addressed Aliya.
"Has no one ever told you that you’re as annoying as a fly?"
Everyone froze at his words, their eyes-wide open—especially Aliya, whose smile froze on her face.
Her smile was strained.
"King, you must have made a mistake. How could I be described as an annoying fly?"
The man frowned, his icy eyes fixed on her, "What? Do I need to repeat myself a second time?"
