Chapter 84: Chapter 84 Church Mission

「Morning.」

Everyone gathered in the captain’s cabin.

Looking at the information on the table, Alka could roughly guess what it was about, even though he wasn’t sure of the specifics.

It must be the mission the Church issued last night.

Sure enough, Andre said, "The Church issued a mission yesterday. You all saw it, right? This time, our mission is to retrieve the Holy Artifact."

"Holy Artifact?!"

Everyone else, except for Alka and Jason, couldn’t help but exclaim.

Even Sang Kaka stood up so abruptly that he hit his head on the room’s ceiling.

Seeing everyone’s intense reaction, Alka and Jason exchanged glances.

Andre paid little attention to their astonishment and began explaining to the two, who looked somewhat puzzled.

"The so-called Holy Artifact... you can understand it as a special Treasure."

Treasure?

In that instant, Alka understood why everyone was so surprised. In this world, Treasures were the cornerstone of any power—the very essence and origin of strength. Do we really have the strength to obtain such a thing?

At this moment, Chadite added from the side, "It’s just a special Treasure, not a *true* Treasure."

"A Holy Artifact is an item left behind in the world by the Divine. Unless it’s awakened by the Divine, its effectiveness will always be one grade lower."

"What do you mean?"

Alka and Jason were still a bit confused.

Chadite reorganized his thoughts and calmed his somewhat excited mood.

"That is to say, if used by anyone other than its destined owner, a Holy Artifact will be one grade lower in power."

"For instance, to others, it might just be a relatively powerful Magic Item. However, if an artifact abandoned by the Holy Mother is recovered and undergoes a ritual, it can be elevated to a Holy Grail-grade Treasure."

"Following that logic, what is a Holy Grail to others could, through a ritual, be upgraded to a Scepter."

With this explanation, the two instantly understood.

In other words, regardless of the Holy Artifact’s grade, as long as it was abandoned by the Holy Mother, retrieving it would be like gaining an additional Treasure.

After Chadite finished explaining, Andre finally spoke. "Don’t worry, it’s not as exaggerated as you think. This time, the target is just a powerful Magic Item."

Hearing this, the group’s expressions relaxed a bit.

"Moreover, it’s not in anyone’s possession, nor held by any faction. It’s hidden away, and we’ve merely discovered some clues to its whereabouts."

"So that’s how it is. No wonder this mission fell to us," Vanessa couldn’t help but say.

This was a task perfectly suited to their expertise.

"Alright, since we’re on a mission, fill out your request forms now."

With that, Andre pulled out several sheets of paper and handed them to everyone.

Alka, Jason, and Chadite were somewhat bewildered.

They picked up the papers and began to examine them.

In contrast, Vanessa and Sang Kaka immediately started writing furiously.

A supplies requisition...?

Looking at the title on the paper, Alka couldn’t help but glance at Andre, only to see Andre smiling back.

So, it’s for requesting resources? And Church resources, at that, Alka thought, starting to understand.

He couldn’t help but ask, "Is there a maximum each person can request...?"

Hearing this, Andre’s smile broadened, and he nodded.

"This is the supplies list. Everything on it can be requested. You can ask for even more consumables."

As he spoke, he pointed to another yellowish paper in front of them.

Alka leaned in to take a look.

There were all sorts of Enchanted Ammunition, consumable Spells, medicines, and various materials for inscribing or learning Spells.

With these items as a reference, Alka immediately began to write on his own requisition form.

Useful or not, I’ll request it first and figure things out later, he thought.

Just then, Andre took Vanessa’s and Sang Kaka’s forms, looked them over, and nodded in satisfaction.

Their forms were densely packed, almost entirely filled.

By this time, Alka and the others had also finished writing and handed their forms over.

Andre first looked at Alka’s requisition form.

He nodded but then said, "You can request even more."

He winked as he spoke and handed the form back.

Then he looked at Chadite’s and Jason’s forms and couldn’t help but scold, "What is this you two requested? Are you looking down on the Church? Rewrite them!"

He tossed the papers back at them, leaving the two looking utterly bewildered.

Andre then leaned in and whispered a few words into their ears.

Both of them looked completely shocked.

Their expressions seemed to say: We can actually do that?

They couldn’t help but glance over at Alka’s resource requests and what Vanessa had written on her form.

"So audacious!" Jason couldn’t help but exclaim.

But, as if a door to a new world had just opened for him, he also began scribbling furiously.

Andre watched the three of them demonstrating such Spirituality and couldn’t help but nod in satisfaction.

A short while later, after receiving the rewritten requisition forms from the three, he stood up with a beaming smile and stacked their forms together.

"We will stay on a nearby deserted island for a while. We’ll head to our destination only after the Church’s supplies arrive."

"During this time, familiarize yourselves with the specific details of our mission. The files are all on the table, so take a look. I have other matters to attend to."

With that, Andre walked out, taking everyone’s requisition forms with him.

Sang Kaka also followed him out.

The remaining few sat down at the table and began to peruse the files laid out on it.

"Why are you so savvy about these things?" Jason couldn’t help but ask from the side.

Earlier, neither he nor Chadite had understood.

Yet Alka had seemed to figure it out all by himself.

Hearing Jason’s question, Alka glanced at him but didn’t answer. He couldn’t very well say it was knowledge from a past life, could he?

"Other core members will likely be joining us on board. You should all be prepared," Vanessa, who was sitting beside them, reminded the group.

"What’s going on? Shouldn’t the crew assignments be entirely up to my father?" Chadite asked.

In response to Chadite’s question, Vanessa said, "Knowing Andre’s personality, he would definitely request more personnel. In the past, he would have taken his time to find members he truly favored. But with a mission at hand, he has to make do for now. After all, one more person means more combat strength."

Hearing this, the group couldn’t help but nod in agreement.

After all, missions from the Church were never easy.

Having an extra person would indeed make things a bit easier.

They just wondered what kind of person this new core member would be, and whether they’d be easy to get along with.

"Don’t worry," Vanessa said. "The person coming aboard will likely be an acquaintance of someone already here, so we can all get familiar quickly. Otherwise, the Church wouldn’t entrust this mission to us."
