Chapter 69: Chapter 69 Learning Spells

The boat didn’t sail directly into the island’s port but stopped on the outskirts.

Using a small rowboat hung beside the ship, Andre, along with Bobby, Alka, and Jason, rowed towards the island. The others, naturally, were to stay on the ship.

Almost all the boats used this method to reach the island. After all, the island’s port looked so small and dilapidated. It certainly couldn’t accommodate so many ships, not to mention that these vessels were all impressively large.

After docking at the port with the rowboat, Andre took out four Silver Snakes and handed them to an old man at the docks.

An entrance fee of one Silver Snake per person? So expensive.

Seeing this, Alka couldn’t help but complain internally.

Low wooden huts were scattered all around the front of the port. These huts were built so casually it seemed they could be knocked over with a gentle push. As for the paths, they were completely trodden into muddy roads by people. One could only imagine how terrible the conditions would be in wet weather. This place was just like a broken-down and dirty slum.

But looking at the people’s clothing, none of them were dressed in rags.

Upon entering, the whole town was a market, with various stalls and shops on both sides. No one shouted. The goods were simply laid out, quietly waiting.

Alka looked at these items: unknown limbs, various animal skins or furs, bones, and assorted objects of completely unknown origin.

Andre led them directly to a small wooden house not far away. Inside sat an old man leaning back on a deck chair.

"Oh my, what a rare guest you are, Andre. It’s not often you come here."

The old man stood up, looking very enthusiastic, and moved as if to give Andre a hug.

Andre directly reached out and pushed him away. "We’re here to buy things."

The old man, despite being pushed away, wasn’t upset. He merely chuckled and rubbed his hands.

Bobby stepped forward to negotiate with him.

"These materials are not cheap."

Upon hearing this, Andre turned his head to look at the old man, his eyes narrowing slightly.

"Looking at me like that won’t do you any good. The Prayer for the Dead are nearby. Their arrival has severely affected the situation around here, which naturally impacts the price of these materials."

"How much?"

Hearing this, the old man smiled, revealing a mouthful of rotten teeth.

"Six Golden Leaves."

Andre clearly didn’t want to haggle further with him. He took out one Golden Sail and one Golden Leaf and handed them over.

The old man took the coins, rubbed them together, and smiling, walked into the courtyard at the back.

Soon after, he returned carrying two suitcases and a cloth bag.

"Count them."

Andre and Bobby picked up the suitcases and cloth bag from the ground, then led Alka and Jason out.

They don’t seem to intend to count. Apparently, this shopkeeper’s reputation is quite trustworthy.

They rowed back to the ship in silence. Resuming their voyage, they left the island behind.

Andre tried to avoid contact with others as much as possible.

"Here, Alka," Old Bobby said, handing him several sets of materials. "These are for the Spells you wish to learn. If you fail to learn them or want to learn other Spells, you’ll have to gather the materials or pay for them yourself."

Old Bobby smiled as he handed the materials to Alka, and Jason’s materials too.

After receiving the materials, Alka returned to his room.

He looked at the three sets of materials placed in front of him: [Cross of Righteous Fire], [Silver Blade], and [Screw Vortex Water Chain]. These corresponded to the three Spells in Jack’s manual.

The Treasure Hunting Team didn’t have the patterns for the first two Spells, nor information on their corresponding materials. But when Alka expressed his desire for these two sets of materials, they didn’t ask too many questions. Similarly, Jason had also requested materials corresponding to a Spell unknown to them.

The first set of materials was provided for free; the rest had to be bought or gathered by oneself. Moreover, many of these materials were not for learning the Spells themselves but were related to the Spells Alka wanted to inscribe; he would need to purchase all of these himself.

"You should first learn [Silver Blade]; its materials are easier to resonate with," Lucilia said from beside him.

The material corresponding to [Silver Blade] was some kind of insect’s shell, glinting with a metallic luster.

"While learning, place a few Silver Snakes on your arm and let your limb touch them."

Alka followed Lucilia’s instructions and began to learn. As for the [Silver Blade] Spell, he had memorized it firmly long ago.

Using the Resonance Method, Alka spent the better part of the day finally learning this Spell. After all, [Silver Blade] wasn’t a simple Spell; its learning Difficulty was significantly higher than that of [Sound Bird]. In addition, he himself was quite compatible with [Silver Blade].

He extended his index finger. As Magic Power surged, a faint Silver Light flickered on its surface, and then Alka gently scratched the corner of the table. Aided by the Silver Light, his index finger actually left a scratch on the table corner, as if a sharp blade had slashed it.

This was the effect of [Silver Blade]. Its function was to make a part of a limb as sharp as a blade, characterized by a faint silver glow appearing on the surface of the limb when used.

"It would be better to inscribe it on a card; it might be more useful," Alka couldn’t help but say.

When inscribed on a card, its sharpness could reach an exaggerated level. If high-grade materials were used, a card could even easily cut through steel bars. Even when using ordinary materials, its sharpness would greatly exceed that of ordinary high-quality swords.

"How do these materials resonate? By putting oneself in water or into a whirlpool?" Alka asked, picking up the materials corresponding to [Screw Vortex Water Chain].

"Not at all. You just need to listen to the sound of the sea. The more clearly you can hear the sea, the faster you’ll learn."

"However, it’s best not to learn anymore today. Learning with the Resonance Method is mentally exhausting. Rest for tonight and learn tomorrow. Haste makes waste."

Hearing Lucilia’s suggestion, Alka nodded.

"Then what about this material?" Alka asked, pointing to the last set of materials.

"I suggest you learn [Cross of Righteous Fire] last. This material requires you to be in a high-temperature environment to speed up learning."

"That’s difficult to achieve on the ship, so we can only use the old method and comprehend it slowly."

Hearing this, Alka could only nod helplessly.

Wanting to learn every Spell using the Resonance Method... surely things aren’t that easy.

However, Alka suddenly thought of something and asked, "Would hot water work? Could I soak in hot water?"

Hearing this, Lucilia seemed a bit taken aback.

"Hmm... theoretically, it should be feasible, but the water would need to be at a very high temperature. Can you withstand it?"

"Magic Power can strengthen my physique. Maybe it’s possible. It’s worth a try," Alka said.

But that was all for later. Now, it was time to rest.
