Chapter 152: Chapter 152 Baobao’s Little Wishful Thinking

The phone on Le Tong’s desk seems particularly quiet today.

Usually, President Ji in the office would occasionally call out, asking her to brew a pot of coffee, or telling her to bring in some files.

But today, from morning until afternoon, Ji Rui hadn’t summoned her even once.

Le Tong felt a bit uneasy inside, but this unease was difficult to soothe and calm. Because, she couldn’t run up to Ji Rui and ask: President, you’re not going to fire me over my connection with the Luo Family, are you?

Probably, her mind would remain restless until Luo Yifan came out to clarify, or until President Ji forgot about this matter.

Le Tong had thought about asking Luo Yifan to clarify, but it was merely a thought.

Ever since that night when Luo Yifan confessed his feelings, Le Tong had deliberately avoided him, and after rejecting him, to call him and ask for clarification would be like stabbing someone and fearing they aren’t hurt enough, so pouring salt into the wound. Such things, Le Tong couldn’t do.

Le Tong comforted herself, that after all, she wasn’t a celebrity, and the news report’s impact on her was limited to Ji Rui being grumpy for a few days and her being teased by colleagues; the real impact and harm were basically none.

Thus, between causing further harm to Luo Yifan or holding on herself, Le Tong chose the latter.

At around three in the afternoon, Ji Rui came out of his office carrying his bag, threw a stack of documents onto Le Tong’s desk with a grim face, and walked towards the elevator without saying a word.

Le Tong stared at his back for a moment, until the elevator doors closed with a "ding," she snapped back to reality and opened the documents.

Having worked beside Ji Rui for over half a year, they had developed enough rapport that even if he didn’t say anything, by looking at the documents, she could instantly discern the task he wanted her to do.

She buried her head into finishing the urgent tasks first and clocked out at 5:30 right on time.

Today the traffic was smooth, Le Tong took a taxi to Longxing Garden, and the watch hands pointed exactly to six o’clock.

She took out her phone, found the call record from noon, and dialed back; the phone rang once and was picked up.

"Sister, have you arrived?"

Ji Baby’s excited voice came through, and Le Tong immediately felt the fatigue of a long day at work dissipate.

"Yes, sister is outside the gate waiting for Baby, let the nanny auntie come down with you."

Although Le Tong was unwilling to reveal her identity to the people around Ji Rui, she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to take care of Ji Baby alone. Moreover, if she took Baby out on her own and got caught by Ji Rui, accused of abducting a child, she’d be in real trouble.

"Okay! Sister, wait there, Baby will be down soon."

Indeed, when Baby said it would be quick, it truly was. A few minutes later, Le Tong saw Ji Baby wearing a red hoodie paired with stylish denim suspenders, with a large pocket in front, out of which a cute and silly kitty poked its chubby head, looking around.

"Sister, Sister!"

Ji Baby saw Le Tong too, holding the kitty in the pocket and ran towards her.

Following him was a forty-year-old aunt, the very Aunt Guan whom Ji Rui had specifically hired to take care of Ji Baby.

Le Tong was relieved to see a stranger’s face instead of the babysitter she met last time.

Baby rushed over and hugged her waist. Le Tong squatted down, rubbed his soft and adorable mushroom head, then pinched his rosy cheeks. "Baby, have you had dinner yet?"

"Not yet! Is Sister taking Baby out to eat?" Ji Baby’s eyes sparkled with joy, secretly delighted; this time, he had hit the jackpot!

Watching the little guy gulp down his saliva, Le Tong couldn’t help but chuckle and pinched his cheek again, "Little foodie!"

Ji Baby giggled, naturally wrapping an arm around Le Tong’s neck; for some reason, Le Tong felt compelled to lean in for a kiss.

Suppressing that urge vigorously, Le Tong wrapped an arm around Baby’s waist, attempting to lift him up.

Unexpectedly, though Ji Baby looked quite slim, he was quite tall and not light; Le Tong barely lifted him up before her strength gave way. Afraid of dropping him, she bent over to set him back on the ground.

Ji Baby was amused by Le Tong’s somewhat comical attempt, laughing incessantly, "Giggle, Baby is heavy, right?"

Ji Baby seemed proud of his weight and, without waiting for Le Tong to answer, added, "Baby is a little man and doesn’t need carrying!"

Little did he know, just days ago this little man was being carried on his President Daddy’s shoulder walking down several streets.

Ji Baby said this while slipping his small hand into Le Tong’s slightly chilly palm naturally.

Le Tong looked down at Ji Baby, smiled apologetically, "Alright then, Sister will hold onto Baby."

"How’s the little kitty doing now? Still throwing up?"

Holding Ji Baby’s hand, Le Tong stroked the kitty in his pocket and nodded to the nanny following them as a greeting.

"Sister, its name is Ji Xiaobai; you can just call it Little Bai."

Ji Baby introduced them earnestly, despite it not being their first meeting.

Sure enough, Ji Xiaobai seemed to remember Le Tong, licking her hand happily with its little tongue.

"Is Ji Xiaobai feeling better now?"

Le Tong patted Little Bai’s head and asked.

"It’s still throwing up, Sister, where should we take Little Bai for a checkup?"

Ji Baby stared at Le Tong, hoping she would say they’d go to the other side of R City to see the vet, letting him spend more time with her.

Unexpectedly, Le Tong was well-prepared; she pointed ahead, "Take a left turn at 500 meters ahead, there’s an alley with a pet store that has a vet."

Saying this, she led Ji Baby in that direction.

Ji Baby seemed rooted to the ground, unwilling to move, "Sister, Baby heard from the security uncle that there’s no vet there!"

Just a few hundred meters, how much time could he spend alone with the pretty sister?

Le Tong didn’t know what Ji Baby was thinking, assuming he was referring to the past.

"Maybe there wasn’t before, but now there’s a vet and even nurses, I confirmed over the phone before coming!"

Ji Baby pouted and thought for a moment before saying, "But... the vet there is very fierce, Little Bai will be scared!"

Though Ji Baby had never been there, he was merely spinning tales.

Yet what he said couldn’t be verified by Le Tong, she looked at Baby half-believingly, "Really? Has Little Bai been seen there?"
