Chapter 1397: Chapter 1397: Getting Married

Xu Chen stepped out of the private room and stopped in his tracks after a few steps. Turning his head, he glimpsed through the gap in the curtains and, to his surprise, it was the Crown Prince. He quickly averted his gaze and hastened back to the private room. "Father, I saw the Crown Prince."

Prince Qi’s hand, holding a wine cup, paused in mid-air. He seemed about to send someone to inquire, but ultimately held back, "We will leave after we’ve finished eating."

In the Crown Prince’s private room, the Crown Prince noticed Xu Chen, "Father, that was Xu Chen just now."

The Emperor mused, "It seems Prince Qi got here before us."

The Emperor sent someone to find out when Prince Qi had arrived. The guard returned quickly, and the Emperor laughed, "What a coincidence today is."

The Crown Prince was puzzled, "Ming Teng is getting married tomorrow, and yet he takes his younger brothers and sisters out on the streets today."

The Emperor asked, "Would you like to go over and have a look?"

The Crown Prince was indeed curious but restrained himself, shaking his head: "No, I’d rather not."

The Emperor was pleased inwardly, "You should spend more time with your mother recently."

The Crown Prince couldn’t hide his worry any longer, "Hmm."

Carrying this child has been too hard for Mother; he had gone to see her several times, and each time she was fast asleep. In such a short period, Mother had lost much weight.

The Crown Prince bore no resentment toward the Emperor, for he knew that the Emperor had asked Mother if she wanted to keep the child. Mother couldn’t bear to part with it, so the Emperor had no choice but to have the chief physician constantly at Mother’s side.

The Emperor sat by the window, gazing into the distance toward the Wen family’s residence, which had been much more subdued lately. Yet, it wasn’t enough; if it weren’t for the Empress, he would wish the Wen family to be smarter, to take more initiative.

Ming Teng and his siblings ate quickly; they had been out for several hours.

After paying the bill in Silver, the siblings descended from the building. Yu Die, being the eldest sister, let her younger sister board the carriage first. When it was Yu Die’s turn, a carriage stopped.

Yu Lu was stunned for a moment, while Liu Yuanbo immediately regretted stopping his carriage. What was he excited about? Now his carriage was blocking the Zhou family’s!

Ming Rui and the others got out of the carriage again. Ming Teng approached, "Please move your carriage; we need to leave."

Liu Yuanbo slapped his own mouth, having no choice but to get down from the carriage and bow in apology, "I’m sorry, I will move the carriage immediately."

Yu Die had a deep impression of the Second Master Liu, "Second Master Liu, so it was you. Did you also come to dine at this restaurant?"

Once Ming Rui heard, he scrutinized closely, "Oh, so you are Second Master Liu, I’ve heard a lot about you." Seemingly, he had heard that the second master was quite stingy.

Liu Yuanbo wanted to slap his mouth again; why was it quicker than his brain, shouting ’stop the carriage’ without thinking? He did not feel that ’heard a lot’ was a compliment at all, as he began to sweat profusely, "I have long admired you gentlemen as well."

Yu Die was unaware of her parents’ thoughts, only feeling that Second Master Liu was not up to par; why did he seem afraid in the face of her brother? Her brother looked so splendid!

Yu Yi sighed helplessly in the carriage, signaling to her third older sister to board. After she had got on, she spoke through the curtain to her second older brother, "Is it alright that we are blocking the entrance of the restaurant?"

Ming Teng glanced and saw they were indeed blocking the way, "Would you please move your carriage first, Second Master Liu?"

Second Master Liu exhaled, "Alright, I’ll move the carriage now."

After boarding the carriage, he took one last glance at the Zhou family’s carriage where the young ladies were seated, then ordered the coachman, "Let’s leave first."

Ming Teng and Ming Rui boarded their carriage, with Ming Teng raising his eyebrow, "You seem quite hostile toward this Master Liu. Also, just now he glanced at our sisters’ carriage as he was leaving. I didn’t see that wrong, did I?"

Ming Rui raised his voice, "He dared to look at our sisters’ carriage?"

Ming Teng rubbed his ears, "I’m too busy and often not at home, has something happened that I’m unaware of?"

Ming Rui didn’t want to say as the matter was not yet settled, and not many in the elder aunt’s family were privy to it; amongst their generation, only he was in the know.

Ming Teng lowered his voice, "If you don’t tell me, let me guess—is it concerning Yu Die’s marriage prospect?"

Ming Rui rolled his eyes, "You’ve already guessed it, why ask me then?"

Ming Teng was intrigued, "Which family does this Master Liu belong to? You seem to dislike him quite a bit."

Ming Rui, "Since second brother could guess, figuring out whose family it is wouldn’t be hard, so why bother asking me?"

Ming Teng, "..."

On the Liu family’s carriage, Liu Yuanbo pinched his fan, feeling incredibly stupid. The Zhou family probably likes him even less now, he thought, as he extended his hand to touch his purse, his fingertips trembling slightly. Finally, he gripped the purse tightly—he must be generous, magnanimous!

The next day was Ming Teng’s wedding. He set out from the Rong Residence, where the banquet was also being held.

Rong Yudang watched the wedding procession leave, his eyes reddening, "Shuren, Ming Teng is getting married today."

Zhou Shuren was no longer greatly moved, as there had been too many weddings in the ancient family he found himself in, "Hmm, the Rong family will prosper."

Rong Yudang, "I could now die without regrets."

"You still need to watch your child be born, to raise and educate them. You should live a long and healthy life, a hundred years even."

Rong Yudang, "Right, you’re correct. I want to see my child born; I also want to raise and guide them."

Zhou Shuren supporting his uncle, "Let’s also return. The guests will arrive soon."

"Alright, alright."

At the Liu household, Lau Jia nervously fiddled with her hands, occasionally glancing at the clock. A maid ran in, "They’re here, they’re here."

Mrs. Ma stood up, "Oh dear, I’m going back to the main house. You all keep an eye on the miss."

Lau Jia, fearing her mother might fall, "Mother, there’s not much time, please walk slowly."

"I know."

Ming Teng, with many brothers by his side, and the Liu family with fewer hands, soon made a raucous entrance. Ming Teng wasn’t nervous when crashing through the gates, but he was feeling anxious at the thought of meeting his bride.

Ming Rui saw his second brother hesitating and knew his nervous tick well. He chuckled to himself and gave a little push from behind, "Get going, go inside."

Ming Hui and a few others yelled encouragingly as Ming Teng turned to glare at his brothers before taking a deep breath and striding in.

Lau Jia was dazed throughout, being pulled along until she fully regained her senses when bidding farewell to her parents. Holding back tears, she boarded the bridal sedan. Lau Jia, with reddened eyes, realized she was now a married woman.

Mrs. Ma, watching the procession from afar, "Ming Teng will treat Jia Jia well, right?"

Lau Jing, supporting his wife, "He will, the sons of the Zhou family are all good."

Mrs. Ma, "We only have one daughter, and she’s married off today?"

Lau Jing also reluctant, "Let’s go, it’s time we go back."

The Rong Residence was bustling with activity, as the bride entered. The courtyard was filled with guests. Ran Wan, who had not yet completed her confinement, couldn’t come over to take care of Lau Jia, so Yushuang and Yu Lu came instead.

Lau Jia’s dowry was inevitably the subject of discussion. Fortunately, the Zhou family’s betrothal gifts were plentiful, and the Liu family also prepared a lot, so her dowry was well-received.

Today was a day of great joy, and no one was tactless enough to gossip about it.

Ming Teng was the one having a tough day, as he was the future Mr. Hou. Over the years, he had met too many people, many of whom were intent on getting him drunk today.

Ming Teng took a deep breath, "Brother, I’m counting on you today."

Ming Rui had the best alcohol tolerance in the family, whether the bridal chamber visit would go smoothly depended entirely on him today.

Ming Rui inhaled sharply, feeling cool air, "Brother, I can’t hold up by myself!"

Ming Teng clapped Ming Rui on the shoulder, "You have to believe that you can do it."

Ming Rui, "..."

His vision began to dim as he faced wave after wave of guests, each table waiting to ply him with drinks. No, he felt he couldn’t do it!
