Transmigration: The Evil Mother-In-Law Is Actually Innocent! -
Chapter 1047: Injured
Chapter 1047: Chapter 1047: Injured
Zhulan waited for a while, but still did not see Jin Yan, and her calm heart began to feel somewhat uneasy. There were many skilled people in the residence, and there were also the Emperor’s men; surely no one could have sneaked in.
Zhulan stood up at the doorway. She couldn’t see outside the main courtyard and could only hear some noises. The sounds that had stopped earlier started again, making her heart skip a beat. The two of them really had maxed out their hatred value. Indeed, Zhou Shuren had ruined many things, all related to cutting off others’ financial means. Now that one group had quieted down, another had entered, determined to drag the Zhou family down with them!
And she was the one facing the brunt of it; everyone knew how much Zhou Shuren cared about his wife.
Yang Wen held a sword in his hand. "Madame, please go inside, I will guard the yard."
Zhulan looked at Yang Wen, who had been guarding inside the yard all along. The young boy, merely in his teens, was surprisingly calm. "Aren’t you afraid?"
Yang Wen shook his head. "No, when I was in Lizhou Province, I had already been following my father for a year, and I even went with him to suppress bandits. Madame, I have killed people before."
Zhulan was completely taken aback. Yang Wen was still a child, despite having grown up. "Have you seen blood?"
Mingyun supported his grandmother, staring straight at Yang Wen, feeling that he should practice his skills more, especially after today’s shock.
Yang Wen nodded. "Yes, I have. Last year when I went home, I stayed continuously in the army camp. During winter, there were many desperate bandits on the frontier."
Zhulan felt a lump in her throat; this was her grand-nephew’s love for Yang Wen, a father’s love. He hoped Yang Wen would learn more skills, hoping that what happened to Wu Dong wouldn’t happen to Yang Wen, hoping that Yang Wen could live well. "Your father has been very thoughtful for you."
Yang Wen nodded. "I know."
If it weren’t for the sake of the Yang family, why would his father dare to push him so hard? The night before he left, he had wanted to chat more with his father in the evening but overheard his mother crying and his father’s voice hoarse. Thinking of these things, he couldn’t help but grip his sword tighter.
Suddenly, there was movement. The two young servants guarding the door had already rushed out. The main courtyard’s door was closed. Zhulan stood at the doorway without moving, and Yang Wen also nervously reached the doorway. Ming Teng, that rascal, also held some stick he had found, standing in front of her, ready to protect his grandmother.
In the Shi family, Yao Xin tightly hugged her child. It was chaotic outside, and even from the inner quarters, the noises could be heard. She dared not think about what would have happened if she had stayed at home. Watching Yao Yao holding her child sitting beside her, she moved her lips, "Thank you."
Yao Yao, however, was distracted. Her heart was anxious. She had always known something was off with the Hou Residence, and today’s incident, she felt, had something to do with the Hou family. Her husband frequently interacted with Hou Residence, but she knew it wasn’t genuine. Looking down at her son, her husband had always been exploiting her son’s health, and she had covered for her husband many times.
Yao Xin didn’t wait for a reply nor did she think too much, assuming Yao Yao was also scared, but couldn’t help glancing more at Yao Yao’s son, who she had heard was frequently ill but now seemed a bit off; his complexion didn’t seem like that of a frequently ill child.
Yao Yao came back to her senses and noticed Yao Xin sizing up her child. She raised her hand and used her sleeve to shield her son’s face. If it weren’t for her husband’s reminder, she wouldn’t have agreed to meet Yao Xin. Sisterly affection? Nonexistent.
Yao Xin pouted her lips, thinking of her husband. Then she thought, luckily her husband wasn’t there, or who knows what might have happened!
At the Zhou residence, the main courtyard’s door finally opened, and Yang Wen saw Jin Yan entering, relieved, "Are you hurt?"
Jin Yan had wounds on his back and chest. Even though he was wearing dark clothes, the blood was still visible, "It’s nothing."
Zhulan spoke up, "Is everything resolved?"
Jin Yan’s heart trembled with fear. He hadn’t expected two groups to come, flipping over from different directions. Luckily, the young servants in the residence were skilled and had intercepted them near the residence wall. The only one who had made it through was already dead. "Those who broke in are dead."
Zhulan exhaled, "Have the uninjured continue to guard. You take those who are injured to get bandaged. And, has anyone in the family been hurt? Is my eldest harmed?"
Jin Yan’s countenance was grave as some of the people he had overseen were affected, "Lord, it’s nothing serious, just a minor injury. Three young servants died, and several others were severely injured."
This was the first time someone had died in Zhulan’s family, and she felt a heavy burden, "Go find a doctor to treat the wounds first."
Jin Yan dared not delay any longer, "Yes."
Zhulan thought to herself that it was fortunate she had thoroughly planned by inviting a doctor back with her when she went to receive people. Now that the noise outside had subsided, the extent of the dead and injured was still unknown, and doctors in the capital would likely be insufficient.
Mingyun walked up next to his grandmother, "Grandmother, let your grandson go and see."
Zhulan glanced sideways at her eldest grandson’s determined eyes. This child was worried about his eldest brother, who was now injured. As the man of the house capable of supporting the family, the eldest grandson had to go. This was his chance to grow, and she had no reason to stop him, "Go ahead."
Lady Li supported her waist. She had heard about her husband’s injuries. Looking down at her own stomach, she knew she could not add to the chaos. She then looked at her eldest son, who had already left with the young servant, teary-eyed, "Mother, the family is safe now, right?"
Zhulan was surprised that Lady Li did not make a fuss, "Yes, it’s all right now."
Even if people were still hidden in the capital, they wouldn’t come back because there was no opportunity to do so. The family had garnered respect in two encounters already; otherwise, she wouldn’t have so readily agreed to let her grandson face the challenge.
The person Lady Li trusted most was her mother-in-law. Feeling relieved and admiring her mother-in-law’s composure, as she had been incredibly calm from beginning to end. Thus, the mother-in-law was the matriarch of the family. With the father-in-law away, the mother-in-law was the pillar of the house, "Mother, I also want to be like you."
Zhulan, "...You won’t have that chance in this lifetime. You don’t have the inherent conditions. Aim for a better reincarnation next time!"
Lady Li, "..."
Yu Lu, coming to support her mother, was speechless as she watched her grandmother still able to tease her mother in such a time. It seemed everything really was alright.
With the tense atmosphere gone from the room, Yushuang relaxed her stiff back, bending over and sitting while wiping her forehead with a cloth.
Song Lan looked dazedly at his godmother, "Godmother, aren’t you afraid?"
Still standing at the doorway, with no intention of hiding inside.
Zhulan didn’t expect to be so calm herself. Probably an instinct that everything was fine. No, not instinct, she had arranged everything that could be arranged already and had prepared everything in advance. With many of the Emperor’s men in the residence, she wasn’t afraid. Moreover, she knew that even if people came for the Zhou family, to shake off the soldiers outside, they wouldn’t come in significant numbers.
Zhulan’s smile was now light, "As long as everything is well arranged, there’s nothing to be afraid of."
Song Lan shook his head internally. No, even with good arrangements, one could still be scared. This only showed how strong his godmother’s inner spirit was, something not everyone could possess.
Inside the Palace, the Emperor saw the Crown Prince enter and quickly stepped forward, grabbing the Crown Prince’s arm and meticulously examining his eldest son. Heaven knew how irritable he had been when he received the news; but this was the path his son had chosen. He understood, so he agreed, but his heart had been in suspense.
The Crown Prince was clear about the Emperor’s concerns and his anxiousness. Today, none of his own men had been involved; it was all the Emperor’s men. The Emperor had secretly arranged too much protection for him, his tone filled with deep fatherly love, "Your Majesty, your son is unharmed. I apologize for worrying you."
The Emperor patted the Crown Prince’s shoulder, recognizing the same madness in his son’s bones as his own, then turned and pulled Rongchuan closer, examining him carefully, "Good lad, it’s good that you’re not injured."
A strange feeling crept into Rongchuan’s heart, one he couldn’t suppress anymore, as the Emperor was the Crown Prince’s biological father. Not only was the Crown Prince his son, but he was also the future Emperor. The Emperor’s anxiety was normal, but wasn’t he excessively worried about him?
