Chapter 759: Chapter 760: 60s Siheyuan 8_1

Zhang Yu didn’t know about Yi Zhonghai’s shenanigans after returning to the plant, and even if she had known, she would have found it quite normal.

After all, a candidate for an apprentice and future caregiver was bound to be favored.

The only issue was the poor choice in the Jia Family, a household with not a single decent member; Jia Dongxu’s early death was regrettable enough.

Forget it, it was all in the future; for now, she began to anticipate whether someone would come to negotiate.

It was already the afternoon, and yet no one had come, which was worrying, truly worrying.

Forget it, if no one came, then no one came. Taking advantage of the nice weather, she decided to wash some clothes, then rest for a bit.

Starting tomorrow, she would be a proud member of the working people, no doubt bustling about.

After Lady Jia Zhang returned home, she lay down on the brick bed, and seeing her in that state, coupled with the news she had just heard, Qin Huairu quietly soothed Xiao Dang to rest.

After Qin Huairu settled Xiao Dang to sleep, she went to the yard to wash clothes, lost in thought.

Lady Jia Zhang lay on the brick bed, growing more furious the more she thought; initially, she had Yi Zhonghai take Jia Dongxu as an apprentice because of Old Jia’s good relationship with him and the thought that, as an only child, he would surely treat Jia Dongxu well.

But now, thinking about it, Lady Jia Zhang grew even angrier—the cleverness of her son, who could’ve been a Level 8 Fitter, or at least a Level 6.

And yet, after all these years in the factory, he had only managed to become a Level 2 Worker; how could Lady Jia Zhang not be furious?

Before, she hadn’t thought too much about it, merely blaming Jia Dongxu for not trying hard enough, but now it seemed that it wasn’t a lack of effort on her son’s part but rather Yi Zhonghai’s sheer unwillingness to teach properly.

"I can’t just let this go," Lady Jia Zhang clenched her fist tightly; her grandchildren were her hope now.

Bang Geng was still young and needed Jia Dongxu’s support.

When Zhang Yu woke up again, there was already the sound of children in the yard; she knew it must be time for school to let out.

Zhang Yu got ready to collect the laundry, only to find that Zhang Li had already started doing it.

Looking at the little girl struggling with the laundry, "Xiao Li, you’re back?"

Zhang Li hummed in acknowledgment, "Sister, you’re up?"

"Sister, how was your day at the plant?" Zhang Li was aware that Zhang Yu had gone to the factory to report for duty.

"Everything went well," Zhang Yu said softly, detailing her salary and benefits, "It’s enough for both of us to get by."

Since Zhang Li was handling the clothes, Zhang Yu didn’t help; she was the one responsible for cooking dinner.

By the time most people appeared in the courtyard, Zhang Yu had already finished cooking dinner and started eating with Zhang Li.

At the dining table, Zhang Yu asked while eating if anyone at school was bullying Zhang Li.

"Only Bang Geng, he snatched my food," Zhang Li said with indignation, "But I didn’t take it lying down."

"I went straight for him," Zhang Li remembered what Zhang Yu had told her, "Sis, I wasn’t weak."

"Right, you can’t be weak against them." Zhang Yu wasn’t surprised that Bang Geng had taken things from Zhang Li.

That kid’s actions would have landed him in trouble a long time ago if not for Yi Zhonghai and Sha Zhu always covering for him.

In the compound, people hesitated to take action against Bang Geng due to Yi Zhonghai’s status as a Level 8 Fitter and Sha Zhu’s reputation for fighting; each time Bang Geng misbehaved, they would just let it slide.

But in Zhang Yu’s eyes, if they wanted to protect him, spoil him, and turn Bang Geng into a wastrel, that was the business of the Jia Family, the He Family, and the Yi Family, and had nothing to do with their Old Zhang Family.

"Even though Dad’s not with us anymore, we can’t neglect our daily morning exercises."

Although Zhang Hao had two daughters, he was very attentive to their education and raised them just like boys, never neglecting activities like boxing and running.

Had the original owner not possessed some martial skills, she wouldn’t have intervened to help, not expecting the adversary to actually have a knife.

This time, she was determined to train Zhang Li’s body well, and would certainly not give Sha Zhu a chance to act.

The best way to deal with this so-called War God of the courtyard was to let him know that he was actually nothing special and thus remained unheeded in the courtyard.

Zhang Li was in an extremely good mood today, having just suppressed Bang Geng. Knowing that martial arts were beneficial to her, how could she disagree?

Today, Bang Geng tried to steal Zhang Li’s things, believing that dealing with a young girl would be an easy feat.

To his surprise, he had kicked an iron plate; not only did he fail to steal the things, but he also ended up getting a severe beating by Zhang Li.

How could Bang Geng, who always strutted around the courtyard, endure this? After returning home, he rushed to Lady Jia Zhang’s side, "Granny, Zhang Li hit me."

Upon hearing this, Lady Jia Zhang was shocked. "What? My precious grandson was beaten by that wench Zhang Li?" She was immediately inflamed with anger.

She leapt up, "Let’s go; we’re going to settle this with them."

She had long wanted those two Zhang sisters to scram, those two burdens living in such a large house. It was outrageous. They should vacate the house.

Bang Geng, seeing Lady Jia Zhang standing up for him, was thrilled and swaggered behind her as they headed toward the front yard.

He was determined to beat down Zhang Li, to let her know that all the good food and drink at home should go to him.

Seeing Lady Jia Zhang storming ahead with Bang Geng, everyone wondered what had happened, who had provoked Bang Geng this time.

The residents of the courtyard truly had no fondness for Lady Jia Zhang.

Lady Jia Zhang, dragging Bang Geng with her, charged to the entrance of the Zhang Family, "Zhang Yu, come out if you dare!"

Upon hearing Lady Jia Zhang’s voice, Zhang Yu knew this old lady was making a fuss on behalf of her grandson.

Zhang Li, hearing Lady Jia Zhang’s voice, immediately began to tremble, showing none of her previous bravado.

"Sister." When their father was alive, whenever Lady Jia Zhang came to make trouble, their old man would look at her directly and uncompromisingly, sending that old troublemaker away.

But now, with mom and dad gone, could Zhang Yu handle it?

Sensing her sister’s anxiety, Zhang Yu gently touched her head, "It’s okay."

She had just arrived today and found herself incredibly busy, reporting in, transferring the family’s work responsibilities, and confronting Yi Zhonghai.

Now, facing off with Lady Jia Zhang was just as well. Some things were bound to happen; better to deal with everything decisively once and for all than drag them out.

Zhang Yu stepped forward, "What’s wrong, has Bang Geng come to apologize for trying to steal Xiao Li’s food from my house today?"

Zhang Yu knew Lady Jia Zhang would never apologize and directly stated the facts of the matter.

"I didn’t, that’s my stuff," protested Bang Geng, not believing he was in the wrong. It was his stuff. "And Zhang Li hit me too."

"Exactly, it’s my grandson’s stuff."

"That useless wench even dares to bully my grandson," Lady Jia Zhang declared furiously, "You and Zhang Li get the hell out."

Ever since the death of Zhang Hao and his wife, many had coveted the Zhang house, and Lady Jia Zhang was no exception, having schemed once before.

"I get the hell out?" Zhang Yu laughed, "It’s my house, and I’ll do what I want with it. Lady Jia Zhang, it’s not your place to say, and even Yi Zhonghai arrives, I won’t budge."
