Chapter 751: Chapter 752 Freeloading Man 37_1
Chiang Yi felt very good early in the morning, as the college entrance exam results had come out two days prior, and his performance was quite decent.
Although his score was still far from the goal he had set for himself in his first year of high school, at the very least it was enough to gain admission into an undergraduate program.
He really wanted to know Song Lei’s exam results, even though she had already decided to study abroad.
Every time he thought about how difficult it would be to see her again after today’s farewell, Chiang Yi’s mood would significantly worsen.
But there was no helping it, what was missed was missed.
Ever since the college entrance exam results came out, Mother Chiang’s spirits had improved a lot. Although Chiang Yi’s score wasn’t enough for a prestigious school, it was sufficient for an undergraduate degree, which was a relief for both parents.
They had been worried that with Chiang Yi’s scores, he wouldn’t even be able to gain admission into a community college, but thankfully, the boy had known to put in the effort.
Seeing Chiang Yi so full of energy, Mother Chiang also adopted a positive attitude, giving him some money, "Go hang out with your classmates."
"You know, now that the college entrance exams are over, everyone goes on trips. Your dad and I both have to work and don’t have the time to accompany you, so ask your classmates."
Taking leave means losing pay, and Mother Chiang was reluctant to do so. Chiang Yi would need money for college, living expenses, and then after graduation, he would be facing marriage — he’d have to buy a home, right?
Mother Chiang sighed inwardly. If Chiang Yi were with the daughter of that wealthy family, she wouldn’t need to worry about any of these things.
"I’m not going on a trip. I’ve already inquired about a job selling mobile phones at the sales market," said Chiang Yi, who had found this job through a friend’s connections.
There was no base salary, just a free lunch at noon, and a commission for every phone sold. He was interested in this job because as long as he worked hard enough, there was the potential to make a lot of money.
He had considered many ways to make money and, apart from the computer industry which he believed would be profitable in the future, sales seemed like the way to earn money.
Mother Chiang had not expected Chiang Yi to plan on working during the summer holiday, and, to her surprise, he intended to do mobile phone sales.
"If you think it’s good, then go for it," Mother Chiang thought after some consideration and decided to follow Chiang Yi’s wishes.
The son was already grown up, willing to take on some of the family’s worries, so she shouldn’t demand too much.
What was most important was that it was far better than him just staying at home, wallowing in idleness.
Mother Chiang was genuinely concerned that Chiang Yi would spend his time at home in a haze of daydreams, which made her quite anxious.
"Mom, I don’t need the money, I still have some," Chiang Yi said, knowing his parents worked very hard to make money, and he didn’t want to take their money.
He rode his bike to school, where the classroom was already bustling. You could tell from everyone’s faces how they had done on their exams.
Chiang Yi chatted with his peers, occasionally glancing towards the seat he had always watched, but when the homeroom teacher and other teachers arrived, there was no sign of Song Lei.
After a few words of advice, the homeroom teacher called everyone to the graduation ceremony.
Chiang Yi’s friend noticed his actions and said, "Song Lei and Xia Yuanji’s graduation certificates have already been collected by someone else."
Collected? Chiang Yi looked incredulously at his friend, "She didn’t even come to the graduation ceremony?"
"Not only did she not attend the ceremony, but I bet you haven’t noticed, she and Xia Yuanji have already left the class group chat."
What? Chiang Yi truly hadn’t known and looked at his friend disbelievingly, "Why did she leave the group?"
"She stayed in the group before but never spoke."
"If it weren’t for keeping up with class news, I think she would have left the group a long time ago."
"And I’ve seen in the news that Xia Yuanji has been traveling on business trips recently, signing several contracts."
The friend let out a gentle sigh, "We’re classmates, yet we are still spending our parents’ money, while he has already begun to earn his own."
Xia Yuanji went on a business trip to sign contracts, and although there was no news from Song Lei, Chiang Yi knew that she must have gone with him.
After all, they were a couple, and it would be normal for Song Lei to accompany him.
Song Lei sure knew how to have a good time; whenever they arrived at a new place, she was all about having fun.
Only later did she remember that she had forgotten to attend the graduation ceremony, and most importantly, she didn’t pick up her high school diploma.
Xia Yuanji had been busy lately and had also forgotten to give her the diploma, but he went back to their room and handed her an envelope with the document.
Song Lei took it and saw that it was her graduation certificate, "That’s a relief." Although foreigners might not need it, it was still the result of her hard work.
Song Lei, finally holding her graduation certificate, completely relaxed and did not talk about her high school life anymore.
In early August, the couple went abroad to inspect their house and took the opportunity to buy furniture. Song Lei, who rarely shared on social media, took a series of photos of their new home and posted them online.
Chiang Yi often checked out Song Lei’s social media, but regretfully, she did not enjoy sharing life updates with others.
Even though Chiang Yi knew he probably wouldn’t see much, he still checked her page and today, to his surprise, he stumbled upon a series of house photos.
Chiang Yi examined each photo carefully; although there were only pictures of the house and no more, he knew this must be where Song Lei would live in America.
While he didn’t know how much their house cost, just by looking at the large garden, the décor, and the furniture, he could tell it was expensive.
He, studying abroad, worried about his tuition fees, yet they could just buy a house and decorate it to their liking, with no concern for money.
Chiang Yi opened a browser and searched for news about Xia Yuanji, reminding himself that he needed to work even harder, despite being the same age.
But could he ever catch up? Chiang Yi used to constantly tell himself that as long as he worked hard, continuously, one day he could equal Xia Yuanji’s status.
Now, he thought it was a complete joke; he hustled to sell phones for a small commission, keeping himself busy.
Others signed contracts worth hundreds of millions, so what if he had studied computer science?
Chiang Yi felt lost, sensing that even if he succeeded as an entrepreneur, he still couldn’t compare to Xia Yuanji.
Song Lei knew that Chiang Yi had viewed her social media because visitors left traces.
But she just smiled and moved on. The gap between them was growing wider, and although they both chose computer science, her school was just average.
Even if someone repeated their previous life’s entrepreneurship, with a different school, different classmates, and without financial support, could Chiang Yi achieve success again?
Knowing that this person couldn’t possibly replicate his past life’s success, perhaps lurking in some corner of the internet to check their information, she shouldn’t remain complacent; she had to make an effort.
To let him see how well she was living and that Chiang Yi, despite holding her in his heart, could not have a happy married life.
Song Lei knew that the best way for a Wealthy Family daughter and daughter-in-law to become well-known was to participate in charity and philanthropy, preferably with her own foundation.
This method, which could both prick at Chiang Yi and do good deeds, was of course not to be missed.
The Song Family did not expect their laid-back daughter to take up philanthropy; at first, they did not take it seriously and simply donated some money.
As Song Lei’s husband, Xia Yuanji naturally offered various forms of support.
And so, amidst low expectations from others, Song Lei began her life journey as a philanthropist.
