Chapter 723: Chapter 724 Freeloading Man 9_1

After Chiang Yi got home, he mentioned the matter to Mother Chiang, who was startled, "Your homeroom teacher wants me to go to the school."

As the parent of a good student, Mother Chiang had never had the experience of being summoned to school by a teacher.

She had not expected that her son, now in his second year of high school, would bring about such a situation.

Chiang Yi murmured in a low voice, "Yes."

Even though Mother Chiang was unhappy, she could only ask Chiang Yi what exactly had happened, what the issue was.

The helpless Chiang Yi had no choice but to describe the day’s events. Though Mother Chiang felt the teacher was making a mountain out of a molehill, she thought since the other students could manage, why couldn’t Chiang Yi?

With resignation, Mother Chiang asked, "Is your classmate’s car fixed yet?"

After so much time had passed, could their small conflict still not be resolved?

Chiang Yi helplessly replied, "They’ve moved now, they don’t pass by our place anymore."

What could Mother Chiang do? This meant there was no hope left. "Then get up early tomorrow, wake up at 5:30, and get washed up and all that."

Chiang Yi thought it over; the weather was cold now, and biking to and from school would be bitter. "Mom, can I take a taxi to and from school?" he asked.

"What?" Mother Chiang was stunned by her son’s suggestion, absolutely floored. "Do you have any idea how much it costs to take a taxi to school for a day?"

"How much do your father and I earn in one day of work?"

"How can you be so thoughtless?" Mother Chiang was very angry, feeling that Chiang Yi was becoming less sensible as he grew.

After a stern reprimand from Mother Chiang, Chiang Yi had no choice but to silently return to his room to review his lessons.

Picking up his English homework, he started to work on it. Looking at the letters in the book, he felt overwhelmed. If possible, he truly did not want to study English.

But he had no choice; he had just offended his English teacher. If he didn’t do his homework, or if there were many mistakes, he knew he wouldn’t be spared from consequences.

He had no choice but to grit his teeth and push through, his aversion to English only increasing.

The next day, Mother Chiang went to the school as requested, and the homeroom teacher detailed Chiang Yi’s situation at some length.

It was only then Mother Chiang understood the great changes in her son as of late. A few times, she truly wanted to bring up the possibility of Chiang Yi’s early romance.

However, after some thought, she decided against it, worrying it might not be in her son’s best interest.

Before leaving, Mother Chiang went to Chiang Yi’s class to speak with him and took the opportunity to scrutinize the female students.

She wondered if any girls might like Chiang Yi and quickly identified several potential targets, including Song Lei.

Song Lei, of course, saw Mother Chiang’s visit, but it had nothing to do with her. She rose to go to the restroom to wash her hands and take a break.

The others saw this after Chiang Yi’s mother had come looking for him and watched Song Lei head out, thinking there might be more to it.

But what they saw was her merely heading out and turning the corner, without so much as a glance at Chiang Yi and his mother. Seeing Song Lei’s demeanor, Mother Chiang was certain that she was not the one.

After lightly scolding Chiang Yi, Mother Chiang prepared to leave. "Study hard and don’t think too much."

"Getting into a good university is what’s most important." For Mother Chiang, Chiang Yi’s future relied solely on himself, which meant he had to get into a good university.

As for the nagging words of the parents, Chiang Yi really didn’t know how many times he had heard them, and it could be said that he was somewhat weary of them.

"I know," Chiang Yi understood that his primary task right now was to study hard, at least to get good grades on the final exams, otherwise, he was definitely not going to have a pleasant outcome.

Mother Chiang checked the time and saw that it wasn’t early anymore. She could still make it back to punch out for work, so she briskly left.

In the hallway, she happened to bump into Song Lei. The latter glanced at her but continued walking towards the classroom without any reaction.

Mother Chiang watched Song Lei’s manner of walking and thought, "Pretty as she may be, she looks like she doesn’t care about the Gu Family."

Mother Chiang certainly didn’t wish for Chiang Yi to marry such a woman. Could she work hard on the job as well? And a girl too pretty, focused on dressing up, that’s a bottomless pit of expenses.

Song Lei knew that Mother Chiang didn’t think highly of the original host, and her opinion of her now was no better. She was spending the original host’s money while despising the original host’s poor education.

In this life, she was looking forward to seeing whether Chiang Yi could break out from the ranks in the college entrance exams without the enhancement of those credentials.

She was really anticipating it. Chiang Yi’s biggest reliance was getting into a prestigious university. Without that achievement, she wondered how Mother Chiang would comment on her son.

When everyone saw Song Lei return to her room with composure, "Song Lei, did you just see Chiang Yi’s mother?"

Now that she was called out by name, what could she do? "I didn’t notice."

Everyone didn’t expect such a reply from Song Lei, "You really didn’t notice?"

"Do I have to?" Song Lei countered.

Everyone didn’t know what to say. Should they point out that it was Chiang Yi’s mother? But then they thought, since she no longer interacted with Chiang Yi, why would she bother with his mother?

Song Lei went back to her seat, took out some snacks, and prepared to eat. Everyone understood that her going out to wash her hands was just a coincidence.

Chiang Yi noticed that Song Lei went out and wondered what she was up to, only to find out that she really just went to wash her hands.

Of course, Song Lei knew everyone was curious about her reason for going out at that moment, but she truly just went to wash her hands.

While eating, she continued to work on problems. The middle school entrance exams were coming up soon, so it was more important to read more books and practice more.

She knew that the group was starting to make bets again, wagering on her academic performance for the final exams.

Although some believed that her grades would improve, albeit slightly, many were skeptical. This time, she was going to let them witness her progress.

The original host was not a dummy, it’s just that her focus wasn’t on studying. Now, with her mind set on academics, top-notch tutors, and excellent study materials, progress should be expected.

If she still couldn’t improve despite all this, then there really was no hope.

Everyone watched as Song Lei ignored Chiang Yi and continued reading, finding it quite uninteresting.

Previously, they often discussed Song Lei, how she was chasing after him. Now, she was known for being aloof and independent, and the whole school knew Song Lei had no friends.

Without so-called besties or close friends to discuss her actions, people didn’t gossip about her as much.

Even her nearby classmates rarely conversed with her, and there was basically no rapport, which made many people genuinely curious and unable to understand how Song Lei could keep going like this.

Chiang Yi’s friends weren’t feeling great lately either. It had been a month since they had good snacks, and they were buying their own afternoon treats now.

In contrast, Song Lei was indulging in snacks many of them had never seen or heard of before.

They really didn’t understand why Chiang Yi was so stubbornly refusing to apologize to Song Lei. What harm would there be in bowing his head and admitting he was wrong?

But there was nothing they could do. Once Chiang Yi made up his mind about something, nobody could persuade him otherwise.
