Chapter 715: Chapter 716 Freeloading Man 1_1
Zhang Yu checked again and, after confirming that the original host had scored high, he prepared to move on to the next task.
The System had thought that Zhang Yu, the miser, would at least spend money on clearing his emotional value despite not spending on many other things.
But unexpectedly, he didn’t even mention it and was planning to head straight to the new task.
The System was anxious; although its charges weren’t expensive, every little bit helped, and this brought it one step closer to meeting its targets.
System: "Aren’t you going to clear your emotional value this time?"
Zhang Yu shook his head: "No need, this task was really easy for me, there were no negative emotions."
Although there were annoying biological parents and a brother, she had already severed ties with them in the task, which meant the bad emotional values had already been mostly adjusted during the mission itself.
Zhang Yu: "I even read a lot of jokes this time, I’m in a pretty good mood."
The System, though it did not accompany Zhang Yu into the task, always reviewed the task promptly once completed.
It certainly knew that this task really wasn’t much of a challenge for Zhang Yu.
But it was truly unhappy and made one more attempt: "You have so many points, if you don’t spend them, are you planning to save them up for having kids?"
Zhang Yu, seeing the System’s nonstop nagging, which was just various ways to get her to spend money, felt like it was similar to a big sale in a shopping mall.
Zhang Yu sensed something was off: "You don’t have a revenue target to hit, do you?"
Beyond this possibility, she couldn’t think of anything else; in her memory, the System was not one to nag if you didn’t spend money.
The System, which had been chattering away, suddenly fell silent upon hearing Zhang Yu’s words.
Now, he could be sure that some system actually had targets; he couldn’t help but laugh.
The System hadn’t expected Zhang Yu to guess correctly and was at a loss for a comeback.
After thinking it over, Zhang Yu decided not to spend a lot, but small expenses were still okay: "Then I’ll buy an emotional clearance."
The System initially thought Zhang Li would take the opportunity to make fun of it, but to its surprise, she didn’t.
Not only did she not tease it, but she also actually spent money, which moved the System: "Zhang Yu, you’re really too kind."
Zhang Yu chuckled: "I can’t spend big money, but I have to spend a little, otherwise wouldn’t I be a miser?"
When Zhang Yu woke up again, the alarm clock was just ringing. She yawned, feeling tired, and glanced outside the window, noticing it was still dark.
She turned on the light to check the time, and really wanted to curse out loud; the cursed alarm went off at five in the morning—how was anyone supposed to live like this?
Even for a high school senior, this was too much.
Since she was awake, she might as well accept the task; only then could she know if she needed to catch up on sleep.
Soon, the content of the task entered her mind, and having received it, Zhang Yu really didn’t know what to say.
She could have been a haughty young lady, but instead, she had to play a bootlicker.
In the end, as a bootlicker, she wound up with nothing and even implicated her parents.
The original host had a simple request: not to shame her parents because of her connections, not to become a laughing stock to everyone, and not to let her parents’ lifework go down the drain.
It was not too demanding a request, and Zhang Yu indicated it was no problem.
Knowing that she had to be at school by 7:20 AM, and since her home wasn’t far from the school, she could totally afford to sleep until 6:30 AM before getting up.
Studying until after 1:00 AM and then waking up at 5:00 AM meant serious sleep deprivation.
How could she have the energy to attend class like that? And it’s not like someone had a better attitude towards her because of it.
Instead, her attitude was to call her name when needed, and to ignore her completely when not needed.
Whenever friends mentioned the original owner, they did so with disdain and complained about how they hated her relentless pursuit, which left them feeling suffocated and deprived of any personal space.
If that was what he wanted, then she would fulfill his wish and let him have the freedom he desired.
Song Lei yawned and set her alarm clock for a new time, then turned over to continue resting.
Awoken by the alarm clock once more, Song Lei did some stretching exercises before washing up. Then, she made breakfast with the ingredients she had prepared the night before.
While walking and eating, listening to English recitation through her headphones, she arrived at the school entrance just as she finished breakfast. Going with the flow of students to her class, she arrived just in time as the bell rang for the start of lessons.
Following her memory, she took her seat before the teacher arrived and pulled out her English book.
The class teacher was the English teacher, so the morning reading sessions mainly focused on English.
Everyone was surprised to see Song Lei come to school alone; they were used to seeing her arrive with someone else. Seeing her on her own was certainly a shock.
What surprised them even more was that someone noticed Song Lei didn’t bring breakfast.
They all knew that every day, Song Lei would bring breakfast and snacks for a certain person.
Chiang Yi was in a terrible mood today. He had gotten used to Song Lei waiting for him downstairs at his house each morning, so they could take a taxi to school together.
But to his surprise, she was nowhere to be seen by seven o’clock, leaving him so annoyed that he hurriedly cycled to school.
Despite speeding up and overtaking other cyclists, taking shortcuts along the way, he still ended up being late.
To add insult to injury, the deputy headmaster happened to be on duty at the school entrance, jotting down the names of all the latecomers.
Chiang Yi, already half-starved and exerting all his effort in a rush to get to school on time, was disappointed to be late anyway.
What Chiang Yi didn’t expect was to find the class teacher already patrolling the classroom doorway when he finally arrived.
Chiang Yi knew he was in trouble, especially since the class teacher had just exploded in anger the day before, declaring that she would not tolerate any more tardiness and didn’t want to have to highlight it at the weekly staff meeting.
Now that he had made a mistake on this very day, what was he to do? Even though his grades were good, the best in class, he was not the top of the year.
Just as the class teacher was about to leave, she caught sight of Chiang Yi. Her already sullen face grew even darker.
"You’re late," the class teacher said coldly.
Chiang Yi hummed in acknowledgment, not daring to look up at her.
The class teacher continued, "Who was on duty at the school gate this morning?"
"The deputy headmaster," Chiang Yi replied, knowing things were about to get worse. Still, there was no way he couldn’t answer, and he bravely did so.
Hehehe, the class teacher chuckled coldly, "Go on then, make a speech in front of everyone."
Chiang Yi had never in his life been on a podium, apologizing to his entire class before.
This was a first in his life and a stain on his record.
When Chiang Yi entered the classroom, he saw Song Lei already sitting in her spot, visibly angry.
But no matter how angry he was, he had to endure it now and stand at the podium to make amends.
Everyone knew the good student Chiang Yi had dared to err on the first day, wondering if the class teacher would show leniency and let him off.
But they didn’t expect the class teacher to remain unyielding, enforcing discipline as usual, causing those who had thought they might get away with being slightly late alongside Chiang Yi to abandon any hope of luck.
In front of the class teacher, Chiang Yi obviously couldn’t look at her. If the class teacher caught him, that would be adding fuel to the fire, leaving him utterly without hope.
