Chapter 663: Chapter 664 Sister Like Mother 81_1
Huang Man was stunned when her secretary told her that two people claiming to be her mother and sister were looking for her.
She knew that once she gave an interview to the mainstream media, people would come out of the woodwork, but what she hadn’t expected was that the two people she hadn’t seen in ages would join forces.
And that they would come to America together, as for who paid for the plane tickets and the cost of the trip, she didn’t need to think twice—it couldn’t be anyone but Huang Lina’s sugar daddy.
After contemplating for a moment, Huang Man let her secretary know to grant them access to come up.
Zhao Mei and Huang Lina knew that Huang Man’s company was big, but they didn’t expect it to be so massive and bustling with so many people coming and going.
What displeased them was the fact that Huang Man knew they were coming but didn’t come down to greet them personally, which really put a damper on Zhao Mei’s attempt to flaunt her authority.
Especially when they finally got to the door of Huang Man’s office, they were stopped by her secretary, who said something to them in broken Chinese.
It took them a while to guess that Huang Man was on the phone and that they should enter later.
This infuriated Zhao Mei and the others, insisting repeatedly that they should be let in at once.
What could Huang Man’s secretary do but keep indicating that she couldn’t understand them and ask that they speak in English?
Poor Zhao Mei couldn’t even recognize the 26 letters of the English alphabet, and Huang Lina, though she had learned English before, had forgotten everything she hadn’t used in 800 years. There was no way she could still speak it.
Left with no way to communicate with the secretary, the two women had no choice but to wait obediently.
"When we see Huang Man, Mom, you mustn’t go soft," Huang Lina knew that if she spoke, Huang Man would certainly not pay her any attention, so she had to bring Zhao Mei along.
Zhao Mei nodded incessantly, "Don’t worry, I know what to do."
They had to give Huang Man a good lecture to make her realize who her mother was, to teach her to respect her elders, and to outdo her in terms of authority, in short.
The two waited and waited, and although they were each served a cup of coffee, it’s not something that fills you up.
Just when they were about to make another fuss, Huang Man finally opened the door to her office.
Not waiting for her to speak, Huang Lina dragged Zhao Mei to Huang Man’s face, "It’s really not easy to see you."
Huang Lina felt a bit better when she saw Huang Man’s clothes; she had worn designer brands specifically so as not to lose out to Huang Man.
She had thought that at least she could compete with Huang Man, but to her surprise, Huang Man was just in a simple T-shirt and jeans.
And she could tell they were just ordinary brands, certainly not big names. Hmph, didn’t they say rich people? Why dress so shabbily?
Of course, Huang Man noticed Huang Lina’s gesture and couldn’t help but shake her head; typical nouveau riche behavior.
"If you didn’t want to wait, you didn’t have to. I didn’t ask you to come here."
"So, what do you want?" Huang Man asked the secretary to make two more cups of coffee.
Although Huang Lina had forgotten most of her English vocabulary, she still understood the word coffee. Remembering the bellyful of coffee she had, she felt anxious.
"No coffee for us, we’ve already had plenty. Do you have anything else to eat?" Huang Lina thought there should at least be some fancy pastries or the like available to buy.
"No," Huang Man replied crisply. She usually drank tea at work, but she was definitely not going to serve it to them.
"Since you’ve had plenty of coffee, then you don’t need any more," said Huang Man just as decisively.
What, no coffee and not even any treats? Huang Lina and the others were astonished, "You don’t have anything to eat?"
"Dim sum and such." Knowing she would play dumb, Huang Lina directly stated what they wanted to eat.
"I don’t have any," she replied.
"If you’re hungry, you can go buy some yourselves." If their stomachs were growling, they could go to the cafeteria to eat.
However, Huang Man was absolutely not going to remind them of that; let them go hungry for all she cared.
"You, you..." Zhao Mei couldn’t help but jump out, pointing at Huang Man and scolding her.
Huang Man listened quietly as Zhao Mei flew into a rage, "Seeing you so full of energy really reassures me."
"It shows that you’re in good health, which means you can go out and earn money."
"Since that’s the case, I don’t have to make money for you anymore." Hmph, dealing with people like her was a matter of being decisive and cutting off their financial ties.
What? Zhao Mei, who was still berating Huang Man for being unfilial, was stunned by her ruthlessness.
"You, you’re actually not going to give me money for my old age, why is my fate so miserable?"
Zhao Mei burst into tears, bringing up Huang Zhiqiang and Huang Xin; in short, she portrayed herself as a pitiful, lonely, old widow.
"Do you think mentioning my dad and Huang Xin will make me treat you kindly?"
"Don’t forget, it was for money that you signed the agreement to give up on treatment."
"Moreover, you’ve had men while you were outside, even when Huang Xin was still alive, so you were hardly a lonely widow."
"Didn’t you have a man to take care of you, with Tian Zhiguo handling all the household chores for you? Every day you did nothing but wander around the village, gossiping with people, basking in their compliments."
"Or you were off to the city collecting rent, and now you have an extra house to collect rent from, right?"
"Zhao Mei, oh Zhao Mei, what kind of lonely old widow are you, claiming to be? You live quite a comfortable life, better than many rural folks."
Of course, Zhao Mei would not admit she was living a good life, always playing the pauper.
The elderly woman had learned that if Huang Lina returned empty-handed this time, she would be completely without a place to stay, and the old woman would not let Huang Lina freeload.
Zhao Mei was determined not to let Huang Lina find out anything; it was her last trump card and a lifesaver.
From Zhao Mei’s evasive and denying expressions, Huang Lina knew that the woman before her was no longer the pitiful old widow of the past, but someone with a handsome monthly income.
Though these sums of money would have been insignificant to the old Huang Lina, to her now, facing desperation, they weren’t small amounts, especially after selling the house, which would net a large sum.
With it, she could buy so many pretty clothes, several stylish handbags, and afford her a few trips out; no matter how she calculated it, however, it wouldn’t last very long.
What was more important was that Zhao Mei also disagreed with selling the house. It infuriated Huang Lina to think that they could become wealthy but were being stubborn about selling.
"You’re rich, how can my little savings compare to you?" Zhao Mei lamented her poverty in every possible way.
In essence, she meant that Huang Man should satisfy her demands, or she would definitely keep causing trouble.
Huang Man watched as she threw a tantrum before her, threatening to sue her immediately for unfilial conduct if she didn’t agree.
Huang Man laughed, "Go ahead and sue. If you’re planning to sue in America, there’s no such law here."
"You can sue me back in China if you like. I haven’t emigrated after all, and whatever the court decides I should pay you, I will pay every month on time."
