Chapter 614: Chapter 615 Sister Like Mother 32_1
Huang Xin and Huang Lina were scratching their heads, and although they shamelessly entered Huang Man’s room, she did not take the initiative to ask if they had any problems.
Huang Xin kept winking and gesturing at Huang Lina, signaling her to speak up.
Again, it was her, Huang Lina was really unhappy. She would always be touted as the pillar of the family.
However, now faced with such a trivial issue, this guy was playing dead, refusing to speak up.
Huang Lina didn’t indulge him either. If he didn’t speak up, neither would she.
Huang Man, however, noticed the two of them nonstop winking and gesticulating at each other, both clearly hoping the other would take the initiative to ask questions.
Since they didn’t ask, she pretended not to know and kept her head down, continuously working through practice problems.
Seeing this attitude, Huang Xin knew it wouldn’t do. It was obvious that there would be no guidance.
What were they doing here, zoning out?
Since Huang Lina was reluctant to ask, it didn’t matter. They still had Zhao Mei.
Huang Xin quickly went to find Zhao Mei, and upon learning that Huang Man had ignored them, Zhao Mei’s anger erupted again.
"Huang Man, are you just going to ignore them?" she asked fiercely, glaring at Huang Man.
"I have my own test papers to do. How can I have time to look after them?"
"If they have problems and don’t ask, do I still have to watch over them?"
"If they don’t bring it up themselves, I’m certainly not going to push," she said, not forgetting to work quickly through the problems.
Zhao Mei sighed at the speed of Huang Man working through her problems, thinking how fast it was. Then she looked at Huang Xin and the others, who were clearly children of the same parents. How could the difference be so vast?
"I don’t understand this homework." Huang Xin threw the summer homework right in front of Huang Man, indicating that there were quite a few problems he didn’t understand.
Huang Man picked up the summer homework and glanced through it, then laughed, "Forget it, don’t bother doing the homework. Honestly, your intelligence is really worrisome."
"You don’t even know stuff from the first year of junior high."
Huang Man sighed softly, "Can you even get into high school like this?"
"You should be thankful that there is no grade retention nowadays, or when would you ever graduate from junior high?"
Huang Man pointed out bluntly that this was material from the first year of junior high, "You should spend more time looking at the first-year textbooks."
"I don’t have that much time to watch over you." Huang Man knew that despite Huang Xin’s poor grades, such simple problems shouldn’t be beyond his ability.
The most likely possibility was that they wanted her to continuously tutor them for the foreseeable future.
"We don’t understand." Just tell him to read the book? There was no way Huang Xin would agree to that.
"You don’t understand, huh? Well, that’s just right for you. Your intelligence is all about not understanding."
"If you can’t even understand or do the work from the first year of junior high, how could you possibly handle the material from the second year?"
"Sophomore year is coming up, and you’ve been struggling with the material for the past two years."
Huang Man shook her head in resignation, "It’s truly hopeless."
"Forget it; your focus isn’t on your studies anyway."
"It’s all the same whether you study or not."
Seeing Zhao Mei’s expression, she seemed to have something to say. Before she could speak, Huang Man interjected. "I know what you want to say; it’s because Huang Xin is a boy."
"He’s supposed to be the pillar of the family and should study more. No problem; you don’t work anyway, so you watch over him."
"You were also saying how Li Na, being a girl, should study even more, with Grandma right there to keep an eye on them, they’re your son and daughter after all."
Huang Man continued to bow her head, reading and doing practice problems, with no intention of offering advice, "I’m going to report in a couple of days, and then I’ll only have two days off a week."
"The family I tutor for knows that I have to earn my own living expenses."
"They just let me come tutor twice a month, and I agreed." Huang Man meant that, once school started, she would basically not come back home anymore.
What? Not coming back even on days off? Zhao Mei had been hoping that when Huang Man got a break, she would come home to tutor Huang Zhiqiang and the others.
But she hadn’t expected that Huang Man would already have found a job, making it impossible for her to come back, let alone give them any guidance.
Zhao Mei felt upset, her face fell, but the current Huang Man simply didn’t care how she felt.
On the contrary, seeing her upset actually lifted Huang Man’s spirits.
"Me keeping an eye on them is no use anyway, I don’t understand this stuff." Zhao Mei, although a middle school graduate herself, had forgotten almost everything over the years.
Huang Man knew just how poor Huang Zhiqiang and the others’ foundations were. The original owner didn’t know how much effort it took to get them into an associate degree program.
This time, she wasn’t so charitable to give them all sorts of guidance, "There’s nothing I can do, I have to study."
"I can’t possibly give up my own future for them." Huang Man spread her hands, "Regarding Little Xin and their studies, that’s something you’ll have to discuss yourselves."
With their grades, unless they get a tutor, and not just any but a very responsible one, there’s still no hope.
The problem is that a year of tutoring, even if the costs are not very high now, would at least cost about ten thousand yuan.
Zhao Mei may have money in hand, but while it can be spent on eating, drinking, and having fun, it can’t be spent on hiring a tutor.
Zhao Mei recalled Huang Man working as a tutor and thought, "Little Xin, how about we also hire a tutor?"
She still hoped that, if possible, Huang Zhiqiang and the others could get into university.
Hire a tutor? "For free?" If they really hired a tutor, the money would definitely come out of the compensation, and Huang Zhiqiang was reluctant.
"I don’t want to go to high school." Huang Lina never had much ambition for studying, and she had been out of money these days.
She wanted to buy things she liked, wanted to eat something delicious, but sadly she had no money, playing the role of someone poor.
Huang Lina hated the feeling of being penniless, "I want to make money, so I can spend it without anyone interfering."
Huang Lina said defiantly, completely ignoring that Zhao Mei was considering her future; the future was too far away, what she wanted was now, to have money in hand right away.
Both of them had this attitude, which infuriated Zhao Mei, but she could only suppress her anger and properly analyze with them what’s good about having better grades.
Unfortunately, Huang Zhiqiang and the others just wanted to make quick money, without any restrictions imposed on them.
Seeing the two children being so disobedient, Zhao Mei could not hold back anymore and, for the first time in her life, she hit both of them.
Huang Zhiqiang and Huang Lina were stunned, looking at Zhao Mei with disbelief and shock.
Huang Zhiqiang and his sister had seen Huang Man get beaten by their parents before, not just once or twice, but it had truly never happened to them.
Yet now, they had been hit, and Huang Zhiqiang felt a stinging pain on his face, "Mom, you actually, you actually hit me."
Huang Lina also cried out in discontent, "Zhao Mei, you actually hit me."
"I knew you never really liked me."
"All that talk about liking me, it was all lies."
"I’m not studying anymore." Huang Lina, in a fit of anger, tore up her summer homework.
