Chapter 449: Chapter 449 The Foolish Filial Man’s Wife 64_1
Liao Jun returned home and saw the wedding invitation on the table, "Who’s getting married?"
"The Liao Family’s Little Princess is getting married." Zhao Wenjin smiled and handed the invitation to him.
"As the representative of our whole family, this important task falls to you."
"I looked at the date; Xiao Yu and I will be traveling out of town."
"By the way, whether your sister manages to borrow a car or decides to save money by not renting a wedding car—"
"In any case, my car will not be lent to them."
"They both bring bad luck."
"Mine is a new car, and it must not be involved in an accident."
"Otherwise, if I find out," he knew what he would do. If not for the house renovation, he might have taken the car keys with him.
But the house needed to be renovated, and occasionally Liao Kai needed to rush around to handle things; having a car was much more convenient.
The car was going to stay with him? Liao Kai was really surprised, "You’re really leaving the car for me to drive?"
Seeing the excited Liao Kai, Zhao Wenjin nodded, "Yes, after all, the house is being renovated, you might need to buy stuff, and you can come back and check during lunch if you have time."
"Remember, don’t lend it to Liao Xuan and her husband; they are too unlucky."
Liao Kai nodded repeatedly, "I know, I know, I will absolutely not lend the car to them; they are indeed too unlucky."
He certainly knew what to choose, "I will definitely not lend it."
"I wouldn’t lend it even if the old lady herself asked." He had suffered a loss once; he certainly wouldn’t make the same mistake a second time.
With everything at home settled, and the volunteer options submitted, Zhao Wenjin set off on a trip out of town with Liao Jiayu.
This time they took a plane directly to The South and played their way back. Hearing that she could visit so many places, Liao Jiayu was truly excited.
But remembering that many of her classmates had already begun studying high school courses, the young girl always felt a sense of unease.
While packing her luggage, she brought a few books, thinking she could take the opportunity to read during her free time.
Zhao Wenjin of course noticed, although she doubted the child would have the energy to read books after roaming the streets all day and returning tired to the hotel.
But if bringing them would put the young girl’s mind at ease, then so be it.
Of course, it was Liao Kai who took them to the airport, "Call me in advance when you’re coming back."
If possible, Liao Kai certainly hoped he could go out and have fun with them.
But there was no way, even if the house wasn’t being renovated, he couldn’t take that many days off, especially since he had an exam to attend in October.
With only him at home, Liao Kai couldn’t be bothered to cook, and as for eating out, he was too stingy. He simply ate both meals at the company’s canteen.
Although the food wasn’t great, the main appeal was being cheap; as long as you could fill your stomach with the least amount of money, you couldn’t expect too much.
The colleagues at the factory were surprised to see Liao Kai driving a new car to work again. After learning it was Zhao Wenjin’s newly bought car, they felt rather envious.
"Liao Kai, you really married a good wife, got to drive a new car again."
"It’s my wife who drives it, she’s taking the kid on a trip and that’s why she’s letting me drive." In the past, Liao Kai would have just agreed, but now he explained.
"Didn’t your wife get laid off?"
"Yeah, I heard it was your wife who brought it up."
Liao Xuan knew about Zhao Wenjin being laid off, but not much else. Liao Kai’s colleagues even knew it was Zhao Wenjin who initiated the layoff.
"Yes, our child is about to start high school, and the academic pressure is going to be intense. As a parent, you have to do the logistics work,"
All colleagues for so many years, everybody knows what everyone else is thinking one way or another, "and there’s rent money coming in, too."
Especially when it comes to painting at home, the money made is way more than what you make at a day job; even a fool knows which to choose.
Some had even thought about asking Liao Kai what he thought about his wife volunteering for layoff, but when they heard about the rental income, they choked up.
Right, how could they forget that his wife didn’t rely on a salary to live day to day? Their life was quite carefree.
"By the way, you mentioned your wife is going on a trip—where is she traveling to?" a colleague, feeling a little bitter inside, asked the question hoping to shift his mood.
"Soon my son will be taking his college entrance exams. He’s been working hard for so long; I thought, after the exams, I’d take the kid out for a stroll to motivate him to get good results," said a parent of a soon-to-be exam taker, thinking that this could incentivize their child to perform well.
Where to travel, though? Liao Kai really had no particular recommendations, "The two of them, her and our daughter, are flying directly to The South and then making their way back north as they play."
He listed the places they might visit along the way, "Of course, if they find some place fun, they’ll stop and take a look."
The main idea is to have no set plan, just to have fun, "They will return at the end of July."
As for why they wouldn’t continue playing into August, it was because Zhao Wenjin had arranged a tutor for Liao Jiayu, who wasn’t available until then.
Take a plane down to The South and then play their way back north? And for over a month to boot? For the colleagues present, this stung a bit.
"Your wife didn’t volunteer for layoff just so she could go traveling, did she?" a colleague speculated, thinking this was quite a plausible scenario.
Someone really guessed it. Liao Kai hummed in confirmation, utterly shocking the colleagues around him.
"She volunteered for layoff just to go traveling?" they exclaimed in shock.
"Liao Kai, even though your wife has the rental income, she still shouldn’t quit working."
"Exactly, it might be fine now, but what about when it’s time to retire?"
They all looked anxious, and Liao Kai found it quite amusing.
"You all know that my salary doesn’t mean much in my household," Liao Kai didn’t bother explaining more; his wife’s decisions were not his to make.
Liao Kai’s original point was to tell everyone that he had no say at home.
To his colleagues, however, it seemed like he was the pitiable man in need of their advice.
They each began doling out advice to Liao Kai on how to assert himself in front of his wife and establish himself as the head of the family.
Listening to their suggestions, Liao Kai was so amused he could barely stop himself from laughing out loud.
Finally, taking advantage of his colleagues’ thirst and their break for a drink, he said, "All the household expenses, including the kids’ tuition and everything else, are paid by my wife."
"My salary is mine to spend."
"For any expenses at home, I never have to pay."
"You tell me, how am I supposed to run the house?" Liao Kai expressed his helplessness; their advice was good, but it just wasn’t applicable to his situation.
Just when the colleagues wanted to continue instructing him, they lost their momentum.
Especially the male colleagues, each of them looked at Liao Kai with eyes full of envy and resentment; if possible, they too would wish for such an arrangement.
Unfortunately, their wives didn’t have the same capabilities as Liao Kai’s wife and would never take on all the household expenses independently.
After a long while, someone couldn’t help but ask, "With you always listening to your wife like this, doesn’t it bother you?"
Bothered? "You get used to it, after all, I get to spend all my salary on myself." Bothered? That was just nonexistent.
