Chapter 399: Chapter 399 The Foolish Filial Man’s Wife 14_1

Early in the morning, it was all about finding Locksmith, running to the bank, and consulting a lawyer.

Though it wasn’t a workday, the level of busyness really wasn’t any less than a typical workday; Zhao Wenjin, who had just come out of the law firm, was quite exhausted.

"Go home and rest, then go out for dinner."

Why make life so hard when you can relax? Going out to eat is so much better, simple and convenient, plus it’s a chance to take the kids out and show them the world.

It’s not like they could be so easily tricked with a small favor; luckily, her son-in-law from her past life wasn’t any sort of villain.

But the family was not well-off, and the two of them struggled to make ends meet, living a life of hardship.

Since she was here now, it might be better for the son-in-law of her past life not to become her son-in-law again; they should each seek their own happiness.

When she woke up, it was just about time for her daughter’s class to end. After freshening up a bit, she walked to pick up her daughter.

Liao Jiayu was discussing the day’s lessons with a classmate when she saw Zhao Wenjin’s figure and excitedly ran over, "Mom, what’s the matter?"

"I went out to take care of some business today and didn’t feel like cooking."

"Just so happens you said you wanted to eat Cantonese cuisine last time, let’s go have it," Zhao Wenjin knew it would certainly make the young girl happy.

Had she mentioned wanting to eat Cantonese cuisine? The young girl hesitated for a moment, but it didn’t matter; that wasn’t important.

What was important was that they were going out to eat, which was a joyous occasion, so she excitedly bid farewell to her friends.

Liao Jiayu’s classmates enviously looked on; who wouldn’t like dining out? Unfortunately, their parents rarely took them out to eat.

They only dined out occasionally when guests visited their home, unlike Liao Jiayu, who got to go out to eat now and then.

Liao Jiayu didn’t care what her classmates thought; all she was thinking about was the delicious food they were going to eat.

"During the summer, if there’s a chance, I’ll take you to Guangdong for a stroll." After all, it was easy to take time off since there wasn’t much work at her unit.

The mother and daughter happily took a taxi to dine out, while Liao Kai, who had ridden home laboriously on his bike, was dumbfounded by the large padlocks that had appeared on the front door.

Unable to grasp what was happening, he wondered why large padlocks would suddenly appear on the door of their home.

The neighbors, who had finished dinner and were out for strolls, saw Liao Kai, "Yo, isn’t that Liao Kai, who said he wouldn’t come home unless Xiao Jin begged him on her knees?"

"How come you’re back today?"

"Right, didn’t you feel that the Zhao family was giving you charity?"

Listening to the old neighbors’ one remark after another, Liao Kai felt overwhelmed, knowing without asking that Zhao Wenjin must have spread the news.

He truly couldn’t understand why Zhao Wenjin had suddenly become so talkative, spreading family matters outside.

Didn’t she realize that this was embarrassing? Liao Kai was indignant inside, but he couldn’t show it.

Fortunately, the neighbors were decent, "Xiao Jin said that this isn’t a place you can just leave and come back whenever you want."

"You have to apologize and sign an agreement to come back, otherwise don’t come back."

Someone kindly informed him, and they were all very eager to see what agreement Zhao Wenjin would make Liao Kai sign.

What? He had to sign an agreement? Liao Kai was really scared, not understanding why there was a need for this.

"What agreement?" Liao Kai looked bewildered, and of course, he was panicking inside; he truly didn’t understand Zhao Wenjin now.

Every move she made was beyond his comprehension, and he had no idea what she would do next.

This uncontrollable uncertainty was something Liao Kai really disliked.

"I didn’t want to come back; I just wanted to get my things," Liao Kai quickly thought of a reason for his return.

Regardless, he absolutely could not admit that he had returned just like that, as if nothing had happened.

But now he knew that returning as though everything was the same was impossible.

Liao Kai didn’t know what to do next. Accustomed to following his parents’ and older brother and sister’s advice, he decided to go back and consult with them.

After discussing it with everyone, the next steps would become clear. Yes, that was the plan.

After a brief farewell to the neighbors, Liao Kai rode off on his bike, realizing along the way that he was truly panicked.

He suddenly felt that Zhao Wenjin’s request for a divorce wasn’t just to scare him—she was serious about it.

His leaving home like that had actually played right into her planned steps.

Could he really not go back anymore? Last night, he stayed in his parents’ room, and since the space was small, he could only sleep on the floor, which was incredibly uncomfortable.

Discomfort aside, each time the old couple got up at night, he had to make way for them.

The couple snored throughout the night and rose early, around five in the morning, thoroughly exhausting Liao Kai, who felt he hadn’t rested at all.

What pushed him to the brink was that, although there were buns and fritters on the breakfast table at home, they weren’t for Liao Bin—they were for him.

He could only eat some plain steamed buns and a bit of soy milk. The luxury of having eggs, various buns, or a hearty meat noodle for breakfast, like he did at home, was now impossible.

Liao Bin had never imagined that the gap between the two households was so pronounced, even when it came to something as simple as breakfast—and dinner was the same.

While there was meat at his table, at home it was braised pork, while at the Liao Family, it was shredded pork. The scarce meat dishes were either for the old master or for Liao Bin himself.

As for him, the second son, he could only have a few bites, struggling to adjust to this rather than enjoying a good meal every evening, as he was used to.

After waiting for a long time without seeing Zhao Wenjin and her daughter return, he had no choice but to bike home, worried that if he didn’t return now, he might miss out on his dinner.

Upon his arrival, the Liao Family’s dinner was already halfway through. Zhang Zhaodi saw his figure and her first reaction was to frown and say,

"Why have you come back again?" She wondered if he had fallen out with Zhao Wenjin.

The old lady had various complaints about Zhao Wenjin’s temper but was powerless given the current situation. The woman had strong resolve and could still get by after a divorce.

In contrast, if Liao Kai were to divorce and return home, finding a place to live would be a problem.

At his age, it was impossible not to remarry, but location would be a huge issue with a new marriage.

The household was already frenzied over Liao Bin’s housing situation; they simply couldn’t afford and didn’t have the capability to buy another house for Liao Kai.

But neglecting this son would surely lead to endless strife in the future. During the day, the old couple had a long discussion at home.

They both came to the same conclusion: divorce was absolutely, absolutely out of the question.

Liao Kai sighed helplessly, "The locks at home were changed, and there was even a large padlock hanging on the main door."

"From what the neighbors implied, it’s not like I can just go back whenever I want," he added.

The more Liao Kai thought about it on his way, the more aggrieved he felt. He truly could not understand how things had escalated to this point in just half a month.

He was now unable to return, and he and Zhao Wenjin had reached the point of divorce.

Although he used to threaten her with divorce to make Zhao Wenjin give in, he had never actually considered it.

But now, it was Zhao Wenjin, who had been so unwilling to divorce before, that no longer feared it and was always prepared for it.
