Chapter 328: Chapter 328 Unlucky Female Educated Youth 28_1
Huang Lei heard they could board the ship and turned around to hug Huang Dapeng and Zhao Ya once more, "Grandpa, Grandma, I’m going to the farm now."
"You all take care."
Huang Dapeng wiped a tear from his eye, "Don’t worry, we’ll be fine here."
They still had to look out for Huang Lei, they must find a good man for her.
Zhao Aoran picked up a final parcel for Huang Lei and strode onto the ship, not caring whether Huang Lei was following or not.
Huang Lei carried the rest of her luggage and hurried to catch up with Zhao Aoran, while Han Qian and Zhang Xia also quickly said goodbye to their families and followed behind.
Maybe because Zhao Aoran dealt with manure or because of his taut face, known for fighting, wherever he went, everyone stepped aside.
Thus, Huang Lei and the others followed Zhao Aoran onto the ship, among the earlier group of boarders.
After boarding, Zhao Aoran surveyed a few spots, quickly chose one, and placed his things in the corner, "This is a good spot."
Huang Lei took a look and indeed, it was a good spot, with a window not too far away, fresh air could flow in, but the wind wasn’t blowing directly, definitely a prime location.
Though they would only be on the ship for a day, everyone hoped to find a comfortable spot.
Huang Lei took out the bamboo mat specially prepared by Zhao Ya and opened the backpack she carried, which had a quilt inside.
Zhang Xia and Han Qian thought they were well-prepared, but they hadn’t expected Huang Lei to be even more so.
"Zhao Aoran, have a seat." The spot was found by Zhao Aoran, and if not for him, the three of them might not have been able to snag such a good spot.
Zhao Aoran didn’t stand on ceremony with Huang Lei and sat down next to her.
When Wang Nan and Fan Xiaofei squeezed onto the ship, they no longer could find a spot to their satisfaction, either near the bathroom, by the windows, or beside the main aisle.
After searching for a while, Wang Nan found Huang Lei’s spot to be very good, "Xiao Lei, can we squeeze in here?"
Squeeze in? Huang Lei pursed her lips, "Do you think there’s room to squeeze here?"
Though two more people could fit, that would mean they couldn’t stretch out their legs.
"I think we can." Wang Nan was cursing inside but had no choice but to hold back.
"Go look somewhere else, we can’t straighten our legs here." Huang Lei said with an apologetic face.
"I didn’t rest well knowing that we were leaving today." Huang Lei looked pitifully but was not about to give in.
Wang Nan hadn’t expected Huang Lei to be so unaccommodating, her eyes almost bulging with anger, but regretfully, the latter simply ignored her.
With no other options, she had to pull Fan Xiaofei away to find another place.
After all the searching, Wang Nan and her companion could only find a spot on the main aisle, cold but better than being beside the toilet.
Once the ship started moving, Huang Lei yawned, "I’m tired, I’ll rest for a while."
Then she wrapped herself in the quilt and quickly fell asleep, and those around her didn’t feel she had been making things difficult for Wang Nan.
Huang Lei had intended to rest for a bit, but she hadn’t expected to sleep until mealtime.
She ate a little something and had a few sips of hot water specially fetched by Zhao Aoran.
Huang Lei yawned again, "If there’s nothing else, I’ll continue resting."
In such a crowded environment, what could they talk about? If they said something they shouldn’t and it reached some overzealous ears, it wouldn’t end well.
Zhang Xia and the others watched Huang Lei fall asleep again, filled with admiration.
Zhang Xia looked at Huang Lei, sleeping soundly and even snoring, with envy, "How can she fall asleep in such a noisy environment."
Some were reciting quotations, others were singing, and some discussed what they had eaten for New Year’s—overall, it was as lively as it could be.
But Huang Lei really had an extraordinary ability to fall asleep as soon as she said she would.
Watching Huang Lei deep in slumber, Zhang Xia couldn’t help but yawn hugely, "I’m tired too."
Han Qian wasn’t far behind, also yawning before settling down to sleep, but she was concerned about her belongings.
Even though everyone was heading to the farm, it didn’t necessarily mean it was safe.
Zhao Aoran, seeing someone who clearly wanted to sleep but dared not, said, "Go to sleep, I won’t."
After staring at him for a long while, Han Qian thought that with so many people around, he probably wouldn’t make a move, "Thank you."
As Han Qian relaxed, she quickly fell asleep. Zhao Aoran, looking at Huang Lei who was already utterly oblivious to the world, thought, "She really doesn’t worry about a thing."
Then, glancing upwards, he was lost in thought. This trip made him reflect a lot, such as needing to work hard. Apart from himself, he really had no one else to rely on.
But how he should do it required a significant effort.
The evaluation in his file couldn’t be erased, but he didn’t want to live under that label for the rest of his life.
Even though his family said he would never have a chance to enter public service, deeming him useless, he still had to try.
After a long thought, he felt there was still hope. For instance, a prodigal son could return. As long as he did well, made significant contributions, and was commended for his achievements, past evaluations would become unimportant.
Fan Xiaofei, sitting in the aisle, was also resting with his eyes closed, pondering.
He had always thought he would follow his father’s footsteps into public service, but now that the chance was gone, he had to change paths and return to the city to work as soon as possible.
Once back in the city, he could slowly figure out how to clear his record; surely there would be a way.
Wang Nan felt cold—bitterly so. Even wrapped in the thickest of cotton coats, she still felt the chill. Although sitting on her luggage, she couldn’t stretch out her legs, which made sitting uncomfortable.
There was no helping it; the aisle was constantly busy with people moving back and forth, leaving no room to stretch her legs.
The more Wang Nan thought about it, the angrier she got, "Really, what would it hurt for us to squeeze in a bit?"
"No, I’ll go have a look and talk to her." They had enough rest in the morning; surely everyone could squeeze together a little now.
Wang Nan told Fan Xiaofei to stay put and went to find Huang Lei, only to discover when she arrived that Huang Lei was still resting.
"Huang Lei, Huang Lei..." Sleeping didn’t matter; Wang Nan didn’t feel embarrassed to wake her up.
It didn’t make sense that she should freeze on the side of the aisle while Huang Lei got to rest comfortably.
To her surprise, Huang Lei was sleeping so soundly that it was infuriating.
"Shut up," Zhao Aoran opened his eyes, glaring at Wang Nan with dissatisfaction, "Everyone around here is resting."
If everyone was full of energy in the morning, now they were all out of it, resting with their eyes closed.
"Exactly, you think you’re the only one who’s cold? Don’t the others feel the same?"
"You should have brought a blanket, and you’d be fine."
Even though it was slightly better here than in the main aisle, there was still a draft, and it was somewhat cold.
"One shouldn’t be too selfish."
Wang Nan hadn’t expected that by trying to wake up Huang Lei she would provoke so much discontent.
She wanted to argue, but finding no chance to speak, she could only beat a hasty retreat.
What she didn’t know was that after she left, Huang Lei slightly opened her eyes to take a peek, then closed them again to continue resting.
