Chapter 314: Chapter 314 Unlucky Female Educated Youth 14_1

Zhao Aoran saw Fan Xiaofei come in and knew he had also been fighting, which secretly delighted him.

He had been worried that Wang Nan would think of him as a person who loves to fight, but now, with Fan Xiaofei also fighting, they were on the same starting line.

But before he could enjoy his happiness for long, he found out that Fan Xiaofei fought for Wang Nan, which immediately soured his mood, making him feel Fan Xiaofei was a sly person.

Fan Xiaofei knew Zhao Aoran was in a bad mood. When he was first detained, his own mood was terrible, but seeing Zhao Aoran upset somehow made him feel much better.

However, before he could enjoy his improved mood, they heard the verdict on their punishment.

Fan Xiaofei was stunned; so was Zhao Aoran, "How could this be."

Zhao Aoran felt more and more that it was unfair, "It isn’t right, I just got into a fight with the young educated youth, but he..."

Pointing at Fan Xiaofei, he said, "He hit the department’s inspection officer, isn’t his crime greater than mine?"

"Why do we get the same result?"

In Zhao Aoran’s heart, even though they both hit someone, they hit different targets, so Fan Xiaofei’s crime should be greater.

"What do you mean, hitting a young educated youth makes it any better?" Fan Xiaofei was furious and started arguing with Zhao Aoran.

The two were already angry, and, speaking without restraint, they ended up fighting each other.

The guards watching them were shocked; they knew these two were friends.

But seeing how harshly they fought, everyone gasped. It didn’t seem like they were friends at all, but rather like sworn enemies.

Several guards stepped in to separate them, but the two still wanted to rush at each other to continue fighting.

"Alright, if you keep fighting, do you want to have more written in your files?"

Only after hearing this did they stop talking and stayed quiet.

"One person per room, reflect on your actions."

The next day, Huang Lei got up and went to the cafeteria for breakfast, where she heard the aftermath of the incident and was speechless.

Without anything major happening, the two had already turned on each other. Huang Lei didn’t understand, and neither did Wang Nan.

Wang Nan quietly approached Huang Lei, "How could this happen, aren’t they good friends?"

"How could they end up fighting?" Wang Nan really didn’t get it, especially since they had just been in the limelight, yet Zhao Aoran and the others ended up fighting.

As for why they fought, Huang Lei truly didn’t know the whole story, but she was sure it must be related to Wang Nan.

"Don’t know, no clue, aren’t they supposed to be good friends?" Since Wang Nan acted oblivious, Huang Lei wasn’t going to foolishly say anything.

She sighed softly, "Hope it’s nothing serious."

"Let’s ask them after they are released," Huang Lei thought that even if they hadn’t argued again, they would certainly remember this incident.

What was possibly a fragile friendship must now be even more so.

Wang Nan sighed softly, "That’s all we can do now."

Huang Lei quickly ate her breakfast; it was getting late, and she didn’t know how many tasks would be assigned today.

Seeing how fast Huang Lei was eating, Wang Nan said, "Why are you eating so quickly?"

"If we don’t hurry up, how will we manage? We don’t even know how much work there is to be done today."

Huang Lei tapped her thigh, "Yesterday, we just made it by the deadline, and if they add more tasks..."

Huang Lei quickly swallowed the last bite of her food, "No time to talk, I’m running off."

Although they were paid a fixed salary, poor performance would still result in deductions, and she certainly didn’t want to lose money because of Wang Nan.

Wang Nan remembered that she didn’t work at all yesterday and her tasks were completed by her roommates. After returning yesterday, they had made it clear that today she would have to do the work of two people.

Thinking about today’s daunting tasks, Wang Nan really wanted to cry. What to do? Fan Xiaofei and Zhao Aoran had to write self-criticisms and it was uncertain when they would rejoin the team.

Since Huang Lei was working far from her, there was absolutely no way she could lend a hand.

Wang Nan truly regretted her impulsiveness. She shouldn’t have been so rash in the first place, but now that she was here, going back wasn’t so easy.

Standing under the sun waiting for their tasks to be distributed, everyone felt uneasy. Mentioning Fan Xiaofei and Zhao Aoran, they directly replaced their names with "troublemaker".

The tasks were soon assigned and were about the same as before, which made everyone heave a sigh of relief.

When they heard the same tasks yesterday, everyone had all sorts of complaints, but hearing them today, everyone felt nothing but relief.

Arriving at the new location, everyone started their work for the day. After yesterday’s ordeal, they knew better than to hope that the inspectors would be lenient; their hearts were as hard as stone.

Rather than rely on them, it was better to work hard with the hope of completing the tasks before the end of the workday.

Everyone kept their heads down, working diligently, with only occasional breaks for rest. At this moment, even if someone wanted to slack off, their roommates in the same dorm would not allow it.

Huang Lei, after finishing work each day, just wanted to lie in bed and rest. They used to have night chats, but now no one had the energy; they would collapse into bed as soon as they returned to the dorm.

She felt all sorts of fortunate that, although the people in the dorm had their own schemes, at least they knew their limits and all persevered.

Wang Nan, however, cried every night in her bed. She felt being a youth volunteer was just too hard, too exhausting. Blisters had formed on her feet, making every step excruciatingly painful.

Not to mention the work, she wasn’t idle at home either, and she believed she should be able to endure.

But the reality was, working on the farm was so much more exhausting than doing household chores. No matter how much housework there was, it couldn’t compare to the toil of the farm.

While their own days were tough, Fan Xiaofei and Zhao Aoran, who shuttled between different teams daily for self-criticisms, also had a hard time.

Every day they returned to the dormitory exhausted to death, only to be greeted by their roommates’ mocking or sarcastic remarks.

This nearly drove Zhao Aoran mad with rage; he wished he could fight them a few more times to show them who’s boss.

But he had lost his nerve this time, walking non-stop under the burning sun, then writing self-criticisms and making pledges—it was incredibly tiring and thirsty work.

In the past, he always drank cool boiled water, or at the very least, tap water, but now, parched, he would lay by the edge of the water channel and drink directly from it, utterly indifferent to whether the water was clean or not.

Zhao Aoran now hoped his family could somehow pull some strings. If he could be allowed to return to the city, that would be best.

Now, he had no desire to stay on the farm and compete with Fan Xiaofei or to steal away Wang Nan.

All he knew was if he didn’t leave, his future would be spent hauling feces every day.

Just the thought of dealing with feces in such a large area, handling all the manure pits with Fan Xiaofei, made his vision go dark.

Fan Xiaofei’s mood wasn’t good either. Listening to his roommates complain about the hardship of farming, he could hardly help saying, could any toil compare with hauling dung each day?

But he didn’t have the luxury to act rashly. Glancing at Zhao Aoran, he figured the latter probably couldn’t hold on much longer, waiting to be pulled out by his family.
