Chapter 312: Chapter 312 Unlucky Female Educated Youth 12_1
Wang Nan found that Huang Lei didn’t even respond to her, and pushed her in displeasure.
"Xiao Lei, what’s wrong with you?" Really, why aren’t you answering? This could make people think Zhao Aoran and his group have something to do with GWH.
"What’s wrong? I was feeling a bit dizzy just now," Huang Lei said hazily, "The sun’s quite strong."
No one saw anything wrong with that statement; after all, the sun was indeed quite fierce.
"Right, what is it?" Huang Lei asked with a subdued tone.
"It’s just that Zhao Aoran and GWH are not related, right?" Wang Nan hurriedly pressed.
"I didn’t see him go over there." As for kicking someone when they’re down, that was something she could never do.
"As to whether he has any relationship with GWH, I can’t guarantee that either; I don’t follow him around 24 hours a day."
Of course, Wang Nan was very dissatisfied with Huang Lei’s answer. "You, how can you be like this? Aren’t we friends?"
As soon as these words came out, everyone turned to look at Huang Lei.
Huang Lei didn’t panic. "Wang Nan, do you think Zhao Aoran and Fan Xiaofei treat me as a friend in their eyes?"
"Why wouldn’t they be?" Wang Nan said this, but her eyes began to drift.
Some people hadn’t noticed any issues, but others had started to get a clue.
That was the outcome Huang Lei wanted. As long as Zhao Aoran and his group were still on the farm, anyone with eyes could see her status in their view.
"If you say so, then so be it," Huang Lei said helplessly.
Wang Nan was very unhappy, feeling that Huang Lei just didn’t want to help Zhao Aoran. "Huang Lei, how could you be like this?"
"You wouldn’t have this attitude just because you saw something happen to Zhao Aoran, would you?" Wang Nan thought Huang Lei was being a fair-weather friend.
"This is my attitude; what I’m saying is nothing but the plain truth."
"Moreover, didn’t I start thinking of solutions with you after you told me this morning?"
"If I really were kicking someone when they’re down, shouldn’t I be happily mocking them?" Huang Lei grew angry as well.
"You’ve seen Zhao Aoran’s attitude towards me; I don’t want to say more, to avoid you accusing me of kicking someone when they’re down."
Huang Lei got angry, "Forget it, I won’t say more. I still have work to do."
"Otherwise, I’ll still be working in the evening." Huang Lei went straight back to her work, with no intention of dealing with Wang Nan.
Really, they must think she’s just a pushover, to be bullied left and right.
This time, she wanted them to know that she was not a pushover either and prepared herself to distance from them.
It had never occurred to Wang Nan that her mild complaints would make Huang Lei so angry.
She wanted to apologize, but her pride wouldn’t let her. In all her dealings with Huang Lei, she had always been the one in the right; it was always Huang Lei who apologized.
After standing there for a while and realizing Huang Lei was ignoring her, Wang Nan left in a huff, ranting to Fan Xiaofei about her frustrations.
Fan Xiaofei had noticed Wang Nan go to see Huang Lei but didn’t think much of it, assuming she wanted help with work.
But he didn’t expect her to come back upset, which made him angry.
In his mind, Wang Nan was much better than Huang Lei. If it weren’t for Wang Nan, he and Zhao Aoran wouldn’t even bother with Huang Lei, that girl with the strange temper.
Actually, they hadn’t wanted to include Huang Lei at all, but they couldn’t stand Wang Nan incessantly talking about how pitiful Huang Lei was.
And now that girl was stepping on them when they were down—it was truly excessive.
Fan Xiaofei couldn’t help but think of those so-called friends and acquaintances who, since his family’s misfortunes, looked at his home as if it were teeming with germs, avoiding it at all costs.
He lacked the power to retaliate against them, but he refused to believe that there was no way to get back at Huang Lei.
Fan Xiaofei threw down his tools and headed straight to find Huang Lei.
Though his roommates were all busy working, they were actually keeping an eye on Fan Xiaofei, since he was supposed to do the work of two people.
"Fan Xiaofei, what are you doing?"
"Come back and work, or else we’ll notify the leader." They knew they were incapable of suppressing Fan Xiaofei on their own.
But no matter, the leader was there, and they believed Fan Xiaofei couldn’t simply ignore the leader’s views.
Fan Xiaofei didn’t want to deal with his roommates; he had never respected these people.
Yet these very people would resort to involving the leader at the drop of a hat, which greatly angered him.
"Can’t I use the toilet?" Having been spotted and unable to cause trouble for Huang Lei, Fan Xiaofei could only come up with that excuse.
His roommates watched him, and a resigned Fan Xiaofei had no choice but to find a place to relieve himself before continuing the work.
"You have to do your friend’s share as well."
"Don’t think we will help you. Your tasks have been allocated; if you don’t finish, then you’ll just have to keep working alone."
Although they couldn’t eat, it didn’t mean they would help with the work; they just stood there watching Fan Xiaofei labor.
He was angry to be doing the work of two, but what could he do about it when he and Zhao Aoran were friends?
Fan Xiaofei was so furious he felt like spitting blood, harboring deep resentment against Zhao Aoran. If that fool hadn’t acted impulsively and done what he did,
despite Fan Xiaofei’s tall and sturdy appearance, he had never been expected to do physical labor, given his family’s circumstances; he hadn’t even done household chores.
Neither he nor Zhao Aoran had intended to become educated youths; their placements had been arranged for them already.
Once they knew they were to become educated youths, they rushed to practice simple household tasks like laundry. In his view, doing household chores was already troublesome enough.
But to his surprise, chores turned out to be the easy part; agricultural work was much more difficult.
Working in the fields under the scorching sun, Fan Xiaofei felt his clothes dry and then soak with sweat repeatedly, causing all kinds of discomfort.
He felt like he had worked for a long time, yet when he looked up, he hadn’t completed even a fifth of the task.
What made him even more incensed was that the person who had just inspected his work said it wasn’t good enough and there were still weeds in the field.
Fan Xiaofei was truly angry, as the fields were bound to have some weeds—it was impossible to have none. He felt that the inspector was deliberately making things difficult for him.
Already in a bad mood, and tired from the work, he would have argued with the inspector if he had not barely managed to control himself.
Just the thought of having to redo the work made Fan Xiaofei’s mood sink even lower, his face completely downcast, believing that he was being targeted.
Wang Nan was also in a bad mood; she too had been reprimanded by the inspector, accused of not working diligently and failing to weed.
Feeling aggrieved, Wang Nan broke down crying right in front of the inspector.
The inspectors, having seen many people, were well-accustomed to such tactics. They had seen plenty like Wang Nan’s before, "What are you crying for? Look at how others are working."
"Despite it being their first time doing this kind of work, they are doing it quite well."
"It’s just that you are not putting your heart into it." The inspectors usually refrained from making such harsh judgments.
But Wang Nan’s behavior disgusted the inspector so much that they didn’t care if their harsh words would deeply hurt her.
