Chapter 181: Chapter 181: Brother-in-law is the Ex 81_1

Huang Jing knew Huang Lei was a cold-hearted person, but she had not anticipated that she could be so indifferent to such an extent.

Ever since Huang Lixin had been admitted to the hospital, till the point he finally regained consciousness and the doctor declared his condition had stabilized, Huang Lei actually had not shown up at all.

As for whether she had asked Zhang Xiaoya for information about Huang Lixin’s condition, Huang Jing was unsure.

But the likelihood of her having asked was probably not very high. If she had, knowing that she had rushed back and liking to compare herself to her, Huang Lei would not possibly stay away.

Huang Lei could choose to be stubbornly self-destructive, but Huang Jing did not care about that, as for how Zhang Xiaoya and her husband would treat her afterward, that was their business.

Right now, Huang Jing just thought about when she could go back to work. Although there was the internet, and she worked and discussed issues with colleagues every day, it was still not as good as face-to-face communication.

After examining Huang Lixin, the doctor smiled and announced, "You can slowly start doing some simple exercises in bed."

Zhang Xiaoya nodded her head incessantly, indicating she would definitely urge Huang Lixin to exercise diligently.

After waking up and being informed about his health situation, Huang Lixin was also startled. In recent days, many things had happened at home, and he had not been unaware that his health was not very good.

Considering he underwent physical examinations every year, even if he felt a bit uncomfortable, he thought any problems shouldn’t be too serious.

Yet the outcome was so cruel; he had just collapsed like that. These past days, he had endured not asking Zhang Xiaoya how his work unit had arranged things after learning about his condition.

Huang Lixin knew that there was a high probability that he would have to step down from his position. Although he would retain the same level of benefits and salary, without authority, he would lose a significant part of his income.

Huang Lixin’s heart was practically shattering. He thought good days were just around the corner, only to be blindsided, not having the chance to enjoy them and instead, because of an unfilial daughter, ended up in such a state.

What made him even angrier was that such an unfilial daughter hadn’t even come to visit him in the hospital after his incident.

Instead, it was Huang Jing who, upon learning about his hospitalization, rushed back from Shencheng overnight, spending all day by his side in the hospital.

Truly, one should not compare people; once you do, it can be infuriating.

Although he had been unconscious that day, Huang Lixin vaguely remembered how Huang Lei didn’t care about his condition at all, instead incessantly nagging about going abroad for studies.

Huang Lixin angrily said to Zhang Xiaoya at his side, "Huang, Huang Lei, going abroad, not allowed."

"Ho, Ho Zhen, indemnity, not paying."

"I know, know, know." Although it was just a few words, Zhang Xiaoya understood what Huang Lixin meant.

"I’ve already spoken to Huang Lei. Whether she wants to study abroad or find a job, it’s all her business, we won’t interfere."

"And the three hundred thousand indemnity to Ho Zhen, that’s her matter too, we won’t take responsibility for it."

Zhang Xiaoya thought back to the past few days at home, seeing Huang Lei’s long face, she just felt all kinds of discomfort.

It wasn’t that she hadn’t thought about reasoning with her, thoroughly analyzing the situation, but that girl, she just had to accuse them of being partial, saying how they didn’t care about her life or death.

Zhang Xiaoya was already too lazy to persuade Huang Lei; they were all adults, and they should be responsible for themselves.

Huang Lixin stared at Zhang Xiaoya, "You, you, are you deceiving me?"

Zhang Xiaoya assured him over and over again, "I’m not deceiving you."

"I’ve already told her, she’s an adult now. Xiao Jing is the same age as her and has already bought a house through her own efforts."

"I don’t expect her to buy a house on her own either, but we won’t cover her expenses."

Zhang Xiaoya could only hope that Huang Lei would pull herself together and make an effort.

If Huang Jing knew about Zhang Xiaoya’s thoughts, she could only advise her not to think too much, as Huang Lei had truly grown accustomed to the family carrying all the burdens for her. She didn’t need to make an effort to get everything she wanted.

During a break, Huang Jing said, "Dad, Mom, Dad’s condition is much better now, so I need to go back."

"There are also quite a few matters to attend to at the company."

Zhang Xiaoya was prepared for Huang Jing’s departure, noticing how incessantly she received phone calls there, she knew how busy Huang Jing was.

"Go back after we have dinner," Zhang Xiaoya checked the time, thinking it would be nice to have a meal together in the evening. After this parting, who knew when they would see each other again.

Huang Jing shook her head, "No, I’ll leave early and can go to work in the afternoon after I get to the office."

"Dad, take care of yourself, and no matter how annoying things get, you can’t afford to get angry again."

"It’s not good for your health." After one last hug with Huang Lixin and Zhang Xiaoya, Huang Jing went back to the hotel to pack her bags and then drove back to Shencheng.

Just as she was about to get on the highway, she received a call from Huang Lei.

Seeing it was her calling, Huang Jing immediately hung up the call. She was about to hit the highway, and for safety, she obviously couldn’t answer the phone.

Hearing the beeping on the other end, Huang Lei was really angry. If it had been before, she might have thrown her phone out the window in a fit.

As for whether the phone would break, she didn’t care at all—she changed to the newest phone model every year, and if it broke, she would just get another one.

But now, she dared not act so recklessly. If her phone broke, Zhang Xiaoya and her husband wouldn’t pay for it, and though Huang Lei had some money, she needed to save a bit.

Huang Lei took a deep breath. She couldn’t smash her phone, but what could she do with her anger? If she didn’t vent, she couldn’t let go.

Huang Lei grabbed a cushion from the couch, flinging and kicking it around, crying out, "Ah, what should I do?"

These past few days had been urgent for her; Ho Zhen was continuously pressuring her for money, but where would she get it?

Three hundred thousand was no small amount, and even if she sold her designer bags, she wouldn’t get a third of that value.

What’s more, Huang Lei truly didn’t think she should be the one to pay. After all, it was Ho Zhen who had willingly given her those things, so why should she return them now?

But she couldn’t stand up to the fact that Ho Zhen had something on her. If those things were truly revealed, she’d lose face.

Unable to reach Huang Jing, Huang Lei could only keep calling Zhang Xiaoya, tearfully mentioning Ho Zhen’s demand for money.

After listening quietly, Zhang Xiaoya responded coldly, "I have no money. You received the things; it was you who wanted to marry him, and it was your choice not to marry anybody else."

Zhang Xiaoya: "These were all your own decisions. Now that Ho Zhen is asking for the money back, you’ll have to figure it out yourself. Your dad and I have no money."

Suddenly, a thought popped into Zhang Xiaoya’s head: Ho Zhen had said that he spent the money to marry you, so if you...

Just thinking about Huang Lei’s actions that night made Zhang Xiaoya shake with anger. A child who doesn’t think of her parents wouldn’t treat them well in the future.

Since Huang Lei could be so heartless toward them, they shouldn’t be blamed for being ruthless to her.

Huang Lei never expected Zhang Xiaoya to give her such an option, and hung up the phone furiously.

Now, she was less angry at Huang Jing for not answering the call, at least it was just ignoring calls, not making those infuriating, blood-boiling ’suggestions.’
