Chapter 179: Chapter 179: Brother-in-law is the Ex 79_1
Huang Jing took a shower, changed her clothes, and then went to the supermarket to buy some things.
Especially since she had left in such a hurry that she had forgotten to bring toiletries like toothpaste.
After shopping for a while and seeing that it was already noon, she also bought some food on her way to the hospital ward.
As soon as she entered the ward, she saw that several relatives had also arrived, and Huang Jing greeted each of them before handing the food to Zhang Xiaoya. She also put away the items she had just bought at the supermarket.
When the relatives saw Huang Jing, they were truly startled at first, as none of them had expected that Huang Jing would rush back overnight. Just as they were about to say something, Huang Jing’s phone rang.
Pulling out her phone, unsurprisingly, it was a call from a colleague at the company, "Mom, I’m going to take a call."
Seeing Huang Jing step out to answer the call, the relatives asked, "Did you make the call to notify her?"
Zhang Xiaoya responded affirmatively, "Yes, Old Huang collapsed last night, and I really panicked."
"I panicked and called 120 to send Old Huang to the hospital, and I was alone waiting outside the operating room. I thought about it and felt I still had to notify Xiao Jing."
"I initially thought she would definitely take the train during the day to come back; I never expected that she would drive back overnight in a friend’s car."
Zhang Xiaoya knew they would be very curious, as they as a couple hardly ever had good things to say about Huang Jing, mentioning her was always a headache.
So, everyone was really quite surprised, never really expecting Huang Jing to be quite good.
A relative suddenly realized an issue, Zhang Xiaoya had brought Huang Lixin to the hospital alone and had waited for the results alone outside the operating room.
It was very normal for Huang Jing to rush back from out of town and not be able to stay by Zhang Xiaoya’s side, but Huang Lei was at home, so why hadn’t she accompanied her?
They had initially thought that Huang Lei had stayed in the hospital all night and went back to rest in the morning, although they felt that Zhang Xiaoya should be the one to go back to rest.
Upon reflection, they always spoiled Huang Lei in every way, so they did not express any objection, but they hadn’t expected things to be different from what they thought.
"You mean to say Xiao Lei did not come to the hospital yesterday at all? She didn’t come last night, and she still hasn’t come now?"
"Wasn’t Huang Lei at home?"
"Did she go out?"
Zhang Xiaoya offered a wry smile, "She panicked yesterday, and I was in such a hurry to get Old Huang to the hospital, I didn’t ask."
As for Huang Lei’s desire to go abroad, she didn’t want to mention it; bringing it up would only provide fodder for gossip.
"She didn’t even call you?" a relative said indignantly, "I’ve always said, don’t keep spoiling her like that. Look now."
"This girl has been spoiled rotten by you, her work life is a mess, says she wants to get married, but then decides not to."
As for the matter of Huang Lei marrying someone who was once Huang Jing’s boyfriend, they didn’t bring it up either.
Seeing how Huang Jing was conducting herself, as if she didn’t hold onto that matter, why should they, mere bystanders, keep harping on it?
But the way this girl treated her own father truly made people feel cold-hearted.
A relative glanced at Zhang Xiaoya’s expression and then tugged at the other’s clothes, signaling for her to shut up.
No matter Zhang Xiaoya’s angry look now, who knows, she might soon think well of Huang Lei again; after all, she was their coddled daughter.
The other person simply couldn’t stand by, and it was only right to speak up. Of course, there was also Huang Lei’s usual arrogance, even in front of relatives, always acting high and mighty, making no one happy.
In the past, they had to give face to Huang Lixin and his wife no matter what, but now that they had the chance, how could they miss it?
Zhang Xiaoya looked at the other relatives, and although she didn’t mention Huang Lei, they were actually dissatisfied.
"This child, she’s been spoiled by me and Old Huang. She’s still clueless about life, and we can only hope that one day she will learn a thing or two."
Even the relatives had many complaints about Huang Lei, which showed what her social network was like, yet this girl had still not realized the problem, thinking it was always someone else’s fault.
Then there was Huang Jing, who would warmly greet a crowd of relatives enthusiastically, unlike Huang Lei who, if placed in the same situation, might just lose her temper on the spot.
With her attitude, would she be able to mix well abroad? Could she start a life overseas?
And what about her spoken English? Could she communicate with people?
Zhang Xiaoya sighed quietly to herself, thinking the best solution was still for certain people to develop their careers domestically.
But looking at how Huang Lei was fixated on studying abroad, she knew that forcibly keeping her here would make her unhappy.
Forget it, since she wanted to study abroad, let her raise the money herself. Once she had the money, she could go abroad if she wanted, without expecting any financial help from them.
Now they were supposed to support their daughter’s overseas studies, and with the attitude she currently showed, once she went abroad and all the money was given to Huang Lei, would they still be able to help if they themselves faced difficulties?
Zhang Xiaoya shivered at the thought; she used to deceive herself into believing that no matter what, Huang Lei would not abandon them.
But now, she didn’t think that way anymore; it seemed that in Huang Lei’s eyes, aside from money, nothing else mattered, not even her parents.
Zhang Xiaoya was quick to adjust her plan; the money needed to stay in their hands. Only with funds secured, they wouldn’t have to worry or fret about their retirement.
Huang Jing noticed the relatives had looks of surprise when they saw her.
Even if they hadn’t thought about Huang Lei before, now they would surely ask a question or two.
It was unclear how Zhang Xiaoya would respond, to cover for her or to tell the truth. Either way, Huang Jing didn’t care.
After asking a few relatives, all of them said they had already had lunch, though whether they were being modest or not was unknown.
Since they said they’d eaten, Huang Jing didn’t buy lunch but decided to buy some drinks and fruits instead.
After hanging up the phone, Huang Jing left the hospital to visit a milk tea shop nearby, buying some bottled water, snacks, and pre-cut fruits, carrying two big bags full of purchases.
When Huang Jing returned to the ward, the relatives were still chatting with Zhang Xiaoya and noticed what she was carrying.
"I bought some water and pre-cut fruits. Eat up," Huang Jing said as she took everything out of the bags for everyone to share.
Seeing Huang Jing warmly inviting everyone to have some food and comparing her with Huang Lei made them all shake their heads.
No matter how one looked at it, Huang Jing was so many times better than Huang Lei, with a better education, capabilities, job, and she was even preparing to buy her own house.
Even without asking Huang Lixin and his wife, given their history of partiality, they wouldn’t support Huang Jing in buying a house, not even a little.
"I heard from your mom that you’re buying a house?" one relative asked as they opened a drink and ate some fruit, broaching the subject of everyone’s interest.
Huang Jing nodded, "Yes, the company offered housing benefits, so I applied for a unit."
"While I’m young, I might as well work hard, aiming to pay off the mortgage within ten years."
That was her public explanation, but privately, she intended to pay off the house loan within five years.
If possible, to buy another property would be the best option, one that could provide rental income or serve as funds for living abroad.
