Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Brother-in-law is the Ex 40_1

After enjoying the hotpot, Huang Jing and Xia Ke went to see a movie together, then strolled leisurely back home.

"Sadly, I have to go to work tomorrow," Huang Jing sighed continuously. "I’m really looking forward to the Labor Day holiday arriving soon."

Only then could they go out and have fun, although working overtime meant extra money, and though she was young, she was willing to strive and strive, all for the future.

"Yeah, I hate going to work, but without it, where would the money come from?" Xia Ke’s current goal was.

"I want to earn more money and later work in a country that isn’t so competitive."

The domestic IT industry was indeed too competitive. "A former high school classmate of mine didn’t join a big company after university but joined a startup IT company, and they were insanely busy," Xia Ke said.

"Their health suffered, and eventually, they reluctantly found an IT company abroad online."

"No overtime at all, clock off on time, weekends off."

"As for the salary, it’s pretty decent," Xia Ke used to avoid discussing these topics with Huang Jing.

Because their plans for the future were different, but seeing Huang Jing now, she felt that maybe they were on the same path.

Being abroad, even if they didn’t work at the same company, having acquaintances as neighbors was a good thing; it could help relax a person somewhat.

"Are you planning to work abroad in a few years?" In her previous life, Xia Ke started working overseas in her early thirties.

The original owner back then thought that Xia Ke decided to work abroad after seeing many IT professionals over 35 struggling to find good jobs, but in reality, she had planned it long ago.

As for working abroad, Huang Jing was indifferent, "but I have to wait until the stock options vest." Leaving the company before the stock options vest would be a big deal.

It meant losing out on at least a few million, and even tasks as experienced as these were too costly to give up on.

Stock options vesting? Xia Ke also had stocks, "Of course."

"That’s money after all. Maybe by then, we can live a better life with the dividends." No one would turn down such a large sum of money.

"No idea how much it’s worth," Xia Ke remembered something, "Do you know? The shares they gave to those people this time were scrimped and saved, only half of what we got."

Huang Jing just laughed when she heard this. Now you’re complaining the stock options are too few? Keep in mind, what you have now is decent; in the future, it’ll be less and less, not even comparable to those who received stock options with Huang Jing or even earlier.

"Capitalists will only become more miserly; who knows, it might get even more pitiful in the future," Huang Jing said softly.

Xia Ke couldn’t help but think back to when they first received their share options, which weren’t more than the predecessors had, and even after making a fuss, the outcome didn’t change; things stayed as they were.

"That’s true, let’s not worry about it too much, just take care of ourselves," as for everyone else, there was really nothing they could do.

It’s not advisable to be a good person in this day and age, "If you really want to go abroad, it’s not easy."

There are too many things to prepare, and most importantly, you need to have enough money ready, especially for renting a place after moving abroad.

"Right, we need to improve our language skills, or it’ll be inconvenient at work," Huang Jing knew their language skills were sufficient for work-related jargon and simple conversations.

But for slightly more complex language, they truly fell short.

"No problem, we can study together," Xia Ke said, indicating these were not hurdles, "and when we’re there, we also won’t need to work overtime often."

Even if they were used to regular overtime, given the choice, they would still prefer to have the weekends free to go out and about.

Back at home, Huang Jing pulled out an English book. "Alright, it’s time to prepare a study plan."

With work being so busy, if she didn’t come up with a study plan, she really worried that even when the time to go abroad came, she still wouldn’t be ready.

Although I’ll definitely go abroad in the end, it’s only by being well-prepared at home that I’ll be able to take things as they come without panic once I’m overseas.

I began browsing online for courses to improve my English skills. Even though offline courses might be more effective, they really weren’t suitable for Huang Jing.

With set work hours and no set time for leaving, in a company where weekends might be canceled without notice, signing up for such a course was truly just like throwing money away.

After some searching, I was relieved to find that there were indeed many such courses available. It seems that society truly has many of its kind, and training organizations had taken note.

I looked over the situation of several training schools and then noted down some that seemed decent.

I wasn’t sure about the quality of these schools, so I decided to discuss it directly with Xia Ke when the time came.

Just then, my phone rang. I picked it up and discovered it was Huang Lei calling.

What’s this about? Huang Jing couldn’t understand why she would call her out of the blue.

As soon as I answered, I heard Huang Lei bellowing through the other end of the phone, "So it’s true, Huang Jing, I always knew you were petty..."

Huang Jing hung up swiftly and blocked the number. She must have been out of her mind, or maybe some wire had snapped somewhere.

Huang Lixin and his wife might indulge her, but Huang Jing certainly wouldn’t.

Huang Lei, hearing the continuous beeping sound, was really furious.

"How dare she hang up on me?" Huang Lei remembered how today Huang Jing hadn’t settled the bill, making her face a huge embarrassment at the café.

And now she’s giving me this attitude. Huang Lei couldn’t stand it and picked up the phone to redial.

But the result was a busy tone, and the persistent Huang Lei kept calling, only to receive the same message.

Realizing the situation, how could Huang Lei not understand that Huang Jing had actually blocked her?

Huang Lei stormed out in anger, saw Zhang Xiaoya deep in thought on the living room couch, and demanded without good humor, "Give me your phone."

Zhang Xiaoya looked at Huang Lei’s twisted face, so contorted with anger that she suddenly found her unattractive, thinking how could this girl be so ugly.

It made her recall how ugly Huang Jing was supposed to be, and how beautiful Huang Lei was supposed to be.

But looking at it now, she didn’t think Huang Lei was beautiful at all; it was the younger girl who seemed pretty.

What’s going on? Zhang Xiaoya felt her judgment was failing, to have such thoughts.

"Give me your phone," Huang Lei said, seeing Zhang Xiaoya hadn’t handed her the phone immediately, her temper flaring, "What’s wrong with you?"

Zhang Xiaoya was amused by Huang Lei’s tone, "What’s wrong with you? Do you speak to me like that?"

"Where’s your own phone?"

"What, arguing with Ho Zhen again?"

Zhang Xiaoya knew Huang Lei had a bad temper, and she too was unhappy with Ho Zhen, but with Huang Lei pregnant, it really wasn’t the time for her to be willful.

"No, Huang Jing has just refused to answer my calls."

"And then she blocked my number. I’ve never seen someone so shameless," Huang Lei ranted loudly about how despicable Huang Jing was, how she hung up on her and ignored the fact that she was her sister.
