Chapter 489: Chapter 484: Going Back to Hometown Troublesome Matter 19 [Explosive Update 13]
——————
"Brother Jiefang, don’t be afraid of me being rude to your mother. This matter cannot be peacefully resolved by mere words alone.
When we have to resort to force, we must use it. If even that doesn’t work, then let’s turn to the law."
Yan Jinsu saw Li Xiaochun get knocked out by Fan Jiefang and only then did she speak to her brother-in-law in softer tones, resuming to call him ’brother’, which obviously was a way to express her stance.
In an instant, Fan Jiefang understood. With a stern face, he replied, "Little sister-in-law, don’t worry. When I get back, I’ll have a serious ’discussion’ with Fan Fengshou, and I’ll definitely get a satisfactory closure for Xiao Hong."
Despite being older than Yan Jinsu, every time Fan Jiefang faced her, his mind would automatically picture Xie Jingchen’s stern and unyielding face behind her. Just the thought of it would make his legs go weak. More than calling her little sister-in-law, he’d rather call her ’sister’!
As for accidentally becoming Mr. Xie’s brother-in-law, he wasn’t too pleased about it either.
Fan Hongshan saw Yan Jinsu dropping her previous arrogance, now expressing her reasoned and understanding stance, and kept thanking her, saying:
"My dear sister-in-law, we’ll definitely explain things clearly to Fan Fengshou, and we won’t let the elder aunt be troubled again!"
Fan Hongshan actually liked her elder sister-in-law, Xie Jinghong, a lot.
It’s just that she really disliked going back to her maternal home. A mere glance at Fan Fengshou would stir towering rage in her, and she had no desire to return home at all! Therefore, she didn’t spend much time with Xie Jinghong. But she was very clear about Xie Jinghong’s character.
Compared to Li Xiaoxia, Xie Jinghong was truly a paragon of virtue and good wife.
Sometimes, Hong Shan couldn’t understand what her own mother was thinking. Clearly, Li Xiaoxia was utterly useless. Next to the elder aunt, she was simply a lazy and shrewd wife.
Yet, her mother was blind to everything else, convinced that the Li Family was the best in every possible way, and no matter what Li Xiaoxia did, she was always good in her eyes!
She simply couldn’t see how much effort Xie Jingwei had put in over ten years since he left military service, moving from an insignificant unit to become the deputy head of the public security team.
Compared to the Li Family, the Xie Family was not much worse at all!
The Li Family may look rich and powerful, but their influence was limited to the small area of the town. Meanwhile, the Xie Family might have roots in the countryside, but Xie Jingwei was capable. In the county town, he could exert his influence and had quite the reputation!
That was the real difference, but her mother and Fan Fengshou, that ungrateful wretch, were completely oblivious to the essence of the situation. They were as dumb as pigs, yet they behaved as if they were incredibly shrewd.
It was utterly speechless.
After Fan Jiefang deposited his mother back home, he nodded to Xie Jingwei and Yan Jinsu before getting in the car with his sister and driving away.
Talk about a hasty visit.
Fan Fengshou had just arrived home, sat down for mere ten minutes, when he heard a knock on the door followed by his elder brother’s voice. Startled, he hurriedly responded and rushed to open the door—
Seeing his younger brother, who had obviously just gotten out of bed, answer the door in a casual undershirt.
At the same time, he heard his elder sister’s contemptuous mutter of "Tsk, I knew it" from behind him.
A memory flashed through Fan Jiefang’s mind – the indifferent and silent look in his wife’s eyes when she looked at him, anger flaring in his heart, a swelling fury that made him seethe!
"Big brother, what... what happened to mother?" Fan Fengshou saw his elder brother and elder sister standing outside his door one after the other, and through his brother’s frame, he noticed his sister supporting their mother, and asked in alarm.
"Fan, Feng, Shou!" Fan Jiefang’s face was black with soot, but he was furious. He took a large step forward and with a sudden punch—thud—it landed on Fan Fengshou’s slightly protruding belly. The punch sent Fan Fengshou flying a few steps away, stifling his ’what’s wrong’ with the pain in his stomach.
"Hisss, it hurts!" Fan Fengshou cried out in pain from the hit, overshadowing the uncomfortable groan from Li Xiaochun as she was waking up. In disbelief, he called out:
"El, elder brother?"
Fan Hongshan did not hear the muffled noise from their mother waking up but rejoiced in her heart at seeing her elder brother punching this ungrateful wretch of a younger brother. Her gaze was fixated on her elder brother, almost as if she was about to shout ’beat him up again’ to cheer him on.
"Fan Fengshou, do you really think by controlling our mother, you can manipulate us siblings to work ourselves to the bone for you, and get whatever you wish for? Are you very pleased with yourself deep down?"
"I didn’t..." Fan Fengshou shook his head, murmuring weakly, his face contorted with pain.
"Fan Fengshou, don’t think that because I respect and care for our mother, you can manipulate and plot against me and Hongshan. If you stir up more trouble, I’ll tell mother it was you who wanted to be adopted by the elder aunt!"
"What?" Fan Hongshan was hearing this for the first time and looked at Fan Fengshou in disbelief. Her eyes bore into him urgently as she asked in shock, "Was it you who asked the elder aunt?"
"Elder brother, how do you know that?" At the words of his elder brother, Fan Fengshou’s face turned pale with fear.
"Pfft, Fan Fengshou, did you think that just because you begged the elder aunt not to tell mother, no one would know?
The elder aunt was resented by mother for three years over this matter before it blew over. Because she agreed to your request and stayed silent in front of mother, she told me every detail of what happened!"
Fan Jiefang had always known that his younger brother was too cunning. It was natural to aim for higher places, and since he was just the elder brother and their mother always protected him, he wasn’t allowed to intervene much. He had to keep silent, fearing that if he spoke the truth, his mother would lose her mind.
But now that Fan Fengshou is about to tear his family apart, he shouldn’t blame him for being impolite!
"So it was you who..." Fan Hongshan wanted to say more, but she suddenly felt the heavy weight leaning on her vanish. The words in her mouth died on her lips as she realized:
Mother, she’s woken up!
"Fengshou... Is everything your elder brother said true?" Li Xiaochun, trembling, staggered to her youngest son, grasping him tight and quivering as she confronted him.
"Mother!" Fan Fengshou never expected his mother to wake up at such a critical moment. His face turned a ghastly shade as he glared at his equally startled elder brother and second sister, hurriedly rebutting:
"Mother, don’t listen to elder brother’s nonsense, he... he’s trying to drive a wedge between us."
Upon seeing their mother awakening, Fan Hongshan felt a bit fearful for her well-being. But when she heard Fan Fengshou’s blatant lies, anger flared on her face!
With a slap, Fan Jiefang went directly past the body of their mother, lifted Fan Fengshou in rage, and his big palm quickly descended upon him. Fan Fengshou’s face was turned askew by the hit, a clear imprint of five large fingers visible on his cheek.
Fan Jiefang glared at him, furiously saying:
"Fan Fengshou! This slap is on behalf of Hongshan, I’ve long wanted to hit a traitor like you!
How many despicable things have you done over the years? A disloyal and unrighteous person like you doesn’t deserve to be my brother! You’ve caused Hongshan a lifetime of misery, and you dare to mislead our mother, letting her bear the brunt of slander. Can you face her maternal affection?"
Seeing her elder brother finally losing his temper, Fan Hongshan quickly pulled their mother away from the fray to avoid being accidentally hurt by Fan Fengshou’s flailing.
Her eyes, hearing her elder brother’s sympathetic words, had already reddened with tears.
Years ago, when her elder brother came back injured and found out how Fan Fengshou was scheming against his own sister, he wanted to beat Fan Fengshou to death, but it was Fan Hongshan who stopped him.
It was no good, she was already married, no longer a maiden. What good would beating Fan Fengshou do? It would only make their mother’s opinion of the elder brother worse, so she could only persuade him to endure.
