Perhaps her prayers were too fervent and caught the attention of the heavens because halfway through the meal, something did happen!

Cai Wei’s menstruation arrived!

It came without warning, fierce and rapid, soaking through the thin layer of Cai Wei’s silk dress almost faster than thunder could follow lightning.

Sitting stiffly in her chair, Cai Wei nearly went mad.

Warm waves intermittently flowed from below, yet at the table, Huo Yuan continued to serve her dishes, oblivious as he discussed business matters and occasionally cracked some light-hearted jokes.

Cai Wei couldn’t even force a smile, not crying was an achievement at this point. She had lost all appetite, even for a meal from the Palace, and sat with a bitter face, trying to figure out how to escape without Huo Yuan noticing.

Huo Yuan noticed something was off with Cai Wei and asked with concern, "What’s wrong? You look pale. Is it the food that doesn’t suit your belly, or are you feeling unwell?"

"Uh...."

Cai Wei sat rigidly, her words stumbling over each other as she struggled to reply, cold sweat continuously beading at the tip of her small nose, and a dull ache began to spread from her lower abdomen.

Seeing her incoherence and the alarmingly poor color of her face, Huo Yuan panicked. He set down his chopsticks and shouted toward the door, "Sui Xi!"

Upon hearing his master’s call, Sui Xi hurried in, "Young Master, what are your orders?"

After responding, Sui Xi dashed off.

Cai Wei wished she could take this opportunity to flee, but when she tried to stand, she realized she couldn’t. The back of her light blue flower-patterned dress was now a bright and dazzling red!

Not only that, but the white orchid cushion on the chair where she sat was also stained like the twilight sky.

She had never been so embarrassed before, and now she wished she could crawl into a crevice in the ground. She blamed herself for not remembering the date of her last menstruation, otherwise, she wouldn’t have suffered such humiliation today.

Huo Yuan returned quickly with a bundle, which he placed on the corner of the table. He barely dared to meet her eyes and simply said, "Here, you can change into this first, I’ll wait outside for you," before briskly walking out.

Cai Wei opened the bundle and was momentarily petrified by its contents.

On top was a light blue flower-patterned dress, similar to the one she was wearing, along with a pair of cotton underpants, which wasn’t unusual. But underneath the dress, to her astonishment, was a stark white, clean menstrual band.

The menstrual band was two inches wide, five inches long, made of white cotton cloth with a thin layer of cotton tucked inside, meticulously sewn, and even the waist tie had discreet chrysanthemum patterns on it.
