Chapter 883: Chapter 885 Practicing Calligraphy (4)
Nangong Yi said, "Because Duke Li Guo’s Mansion is my maternal grandparents’ house, I, Nangong Yi, trust everyone from my maternal grandfather’s family."
"Nangong, Nangong Yi, are you the third prince of the Great Jin Nation, Nangong Yi?" Mu Zhongqing was stupefied, staring at Young Master Nangong with eyes wide and his mouth agape, hardly able to believe his own ears.
Now that the man’s identity could no longer be hidden, Cai Wei simply revealed Nangong Yi’s true identity, and taking advantage of Mu Zhongqing’s stunned silence, she boldly told him the news of her private lifelong commitment to Nangong Yi, too. His jaw had already dropped, might as well give him enough shock to last a lifetime!
It took a long while for Mu Zhongqing to digest this succession of news.
As for the identity of Nangong Yi, he had his suspicions before. "Nangong" was the surname of the nobility in Great Jin, and Nangong Yi had an extraordinary aura and was generous with his money. He had long suspected Nangong Yi was related to the royal family, but he had never imagined that he would be the legitimate son of the Emperor, the victorious King Qin just returned from the northern expedition. Therefore, in addition to being shocked, he felt a bit uneasy. Previously, he could ignore Nangong Yi’s identity, but now that he knew, he ought to perform the courtesies due between sovereign and subject. Although the courtesies themselves weren’t a big deal, the fact that this boy had secretly won his beloved daughter’s hand in marriage made it hard for him to accept. Now that he was the father-in-law, to perform a grand ceremony to such a secretive boy who won over his daughter’s heart... he was reluctant and couldn’t swallow his pride, therefore, he turned his head away, twisted in conflict....
"Dad, we came back this time because we were worried that Jin Guifei would harm our family, so we wanted to move you, Mom, and Wen’er and Wu’er to a safe place until this blows over, then we can come back!"
Cai Wei interrupted Mu Zhongqing’s conflicted thoughts, suggesting.
Mu Zhongqing was baffled when he heard it, "We are just a family of commoners, how could we possibly catch the eye of Jin Guifei and be worth her trouble?"
Helpless, Cai Wei recounted the incident where Jin Guifei forced her to assassinate Nangong Yi to her father once again. Upon hearing it, when it became a matter of life and death for the family, Mu Zhongqing put aside all other considerations and immediately agreed. With Cai Wei and Nangong Yi, they left the restaurant and got into a horse carriage headed towards their own manor.
No sooner had they left than a few street vendors and passersby exchanged knowing looks, with some riding horses following Mu Zhongqing’s carriage from a distance, while others quickly headed towards the direction of the Palace.
In the Silk Palace, Jin Guifei stared in disbelief at the messenger, confirming over and over again.
"Are you sure you haven’t mistaken him? Is that man really King Qin?"
The street vendor disguised as a Secret Guard knelt and said, "Your Highness, your servant did not see wrongly, that man is indeed King Qin, and the woman is Princess An Le. The two of them followed Mu Zhongqing towards the south, perhaps to the manor owned by Mu Zhongqing in the Southern Suburbs."
Jin Guifei, gritting her teeth, laughed and said, "Good, good Princess An Le, such a cunning plot to keep me in the dark, how deeply you have fooled me! If I cannot have her body torn to pieces, I shall have no peace!"
Li Shanggong said, "Your Highness, don’t be angry, take care of your health. Since they have returned in silence, without making noise, it should be to Your Highness’s advantage and not a detriment at all, why should you be angry then?"
Jin Guifei thought for a moment, then suddenly smiled, "Look at me, I was so vexed I became muddled. I forgot such a simple thing; thanks to you for reminding me."
After speaking, she looked at the kneeling Secret Guard and said, "Go, mobilize two hundred of the elite Secret Guards to chase after King Qin and Princess An Le. Make sure to kill them all, including every member of the Mu Family, sparing no one!"
The Secret Guard saluted with a fist and said, "Yes!" then left without a sound.
Li Shanggong, holding Jin Guifei’s hand, helped her to sit down on the babu bed, soothing her with gentle words, "Your Highness, please don’t be angry anymore. You have just recovered a bit from your illness; if you ruin your health over this, who could the Prince depend on?"
Jin Guifei replied, "I would like nothing more than to be happy and healthy, but there is not one thing that goes my way. I’m still in the dark about the Empress’s hand; she was ruthless enough to nearly kill herself to frame me, and even managed to convince the Emperor that it was my doing; Consort Huo isn’t easy to deal with either, guarding Yanqing Palace like a fortress, leaving me no chance to scheme against her; and most detestable are those concubines in the Imperial Harem. Seeing the Prince disabled and the Emperor reprimanding me, they are all filled with wild hopes and are eager to try. These past few days, several shameless seductresses have been trying to get close to the Emperor. It’s truly hateful, it seems I shall have to find a way to teach them a lesson soon."
Li Shanggong said, "If Your Highness wishes to teach them a lesson, feel free to punish them as you see fit. You are now in command of the six palaces; instructing the consorts and concubines is your duty, who can fault you for that?"
Jin Guifei replied with a cold smile, "That’s true. Let’s start with that little cheap hoof who ’coincidentally’ met the Emperor in the Back Garden last night..."
