Chapter 841: Chapter 843: Striking it Rich (1)

The two maids were startled and suddenly wide awake.

"Yo... Young Master, the girl is still in the house..."

Nangong Jin stepped forward and, with a heart-wrenching kick, ’bang,’ sent the speaking maid flying over the Beauty Leans, crashing heavily to the ground!

The other maid hastily knelt on the ground, kowtowing and saying, "Young Master, please see the truth, although we servants are confused, we never dared to be lazy or negligent. We haven’t left the entrance for a moment; that young lady couldn’t have run out from here!"

Nangong Jin angrily said, "If not through the door, could she have flown away?"

Amidst this commotion, the maid servants of the Feixue Courtyard all got up, carrying lanterns and searching everywhere in the corners of Feixue Courtyard, brightly illuminating the place.

"Young Master, look!"

A maid rushed over hurriedly, in her hand a delicately exquisite embroidered shoe, adorned with two lifelike colorful butterflies, playfully dancing among the flowers.

"Ah, this is precisely the shoes that the girl was wearing!"

Upon seeing the shoe, a maid who had attended to Cai Fei during her bathing, immediately recognized it and called out.

Nangong Jin took the shoe and glanced at it, glaring at the maid who found it, "Where did you find it?"

The maid, shrinking back at her master’s terrifying gaze, said in a small voice, "It, it, it was found under the big tree behind the house..."

Nangong Jin, frowning, strode toward the back of the house.

Feixue Courtyard was a two-entry house, Nangong Jin’s haunt, with the first entry housing the maid servants of Feixue Courtyard, and the second was Nangong Jin’s place, where he often brought some of the maids and daughters-in-law he took a fancy to, to fool around. The courtyard wasn’t opulent, with a small courtyard between the first and second entry. There was a pavilion with hexagonal flying eaves in the courtyard, with a stone table and stone stools inside the pavilion, and a few lilac bushes planted around in a charming arrangement. Behind the second entry stood a row of tall pear trees which were quite old. Every spring, the trees would become a dazzling display of pear blossoms, filling the entire courtyard with the lush scent of the flowers. Just a step away from this row of pear trees was the high courtyard wall, built of green bricks and taller than a man. It was nearly impossible for a little girl to climb over it.

"Young Master, I only found the shoe under this tree..."

The little maid pointed to a stout tree, reporting to Nangong Jin.

Nangong Jin, face darkening, looked at the tall pear tree and then at the high wall, understanding immediately.

"Someone, search the back garden, search thoroughly, spare not a single blade of grass!"

"Yes!"

The maid servants answered in unison and scattered like birds and beasts...

...*...*...

Early morning, as the first light of day passed through the thin window screens, spilling onto the clean and tidy bed in the room, the person on the couch stirred her long eyelashes, seemingly sensing the warm sunlight. The sunlight was warm, reminiscent of the embrace of a mother when one was an infant, or like a light and fluttering goose feather duvet, covering her body and face, so comfortable that it made one not want to open their eyes!

Yet, in an instant, the terrifying memories of the previous night surged into her mind, causing her heart to suddenly lurch, blood rushing to her head. She abruptly opened her eyes, sat up, and looked around warily to inspect her clothes. When she found that her clothes had been completely changed, anger and grief overtook her reason and seized her heart. She grabbed her hair and screamed shrilly.
