On her way, she deliberately turned into an alley and stayed there for a while. When she came out, she had an extra basket in her hand. The basket was covered, and it was not clear what was inside, but it was very fragrant, attracting the deep breaths of passersby who immersed themselves in its aroma.

Mi Fangzhai was a century-old rouge powder shop known for its excellent reputation. It was famous throughout the Great Jin Nation. Almost all daughters and wives of official families bought their rouge here. Even girls from middle and lower-class families would rather wear one less bright piece of clothes in order to save some money to buy a box of Mi Fangzhai’s rouge. Cai Wei entered the shop with her basket and saw that it was bustling inside. Many young misses wearing hoods weaved through the crowds, selecting their favorite rouge, and some madams, full of nobility, went through the shelves with their maids and servants, crazily sweeping up goods. Standing aside and observing, Cai Wei was approached by a woman from Mi Fangzhai. She quickly sized up Cai Wei and estimated her spending power based on her attire, then greeted her with a smile, "Miss, what would you like to purchase? May I assist you with an introduction?"

Cai Wei looked around the shop and saw that it was decorated in an ancient and quaint style. Rows of shelves made from sour branch wood were filled with various kinds of rouge powder—ceramic boxes, jade bottles, cloisonne enamel, even silver bowls. Small boxes containing different colors of rouge were arranged neatly on the counters, emitting an enchanting fragrance even from afar.

She turned her gaze back and laughed, "Thank you, sister, but I need to see your boss. Would you mind letting him know?"

The woman took another look at Cai Wei. Today, Cai Wei was wearing a turquoise beizi with subtle patterns of ruyi and embroidered roses, and beneath it, a moon-white skirt with rose-pink lan edges. The lan edges of the skirt were embroidered with delicate, colorful butterflies that seemed to flutter and come to life with her movements.

On her head, she simply wore a crescent moon bun, slantedly pinned with a green jade plum blossom hairpin with flowing tassel fringes, embellished with a few scattered sapphire bead flowers.

This dress was both simple and elegant but did not display a sense of nobility. After appraising Cai Wei, the woman still did not move but maintained her enthusiastic smile and said, "I dare to ask why the Miss wishes to see our boss?"

Clearly judging Cai Wei by her appearance and considering her less aristocratic dress, she assumed Cai Wei was from a lesser household and dared to question her purpose on behalf of the boss.

Cai Wei didn’t want to argue with a shopkeeper, so she gently lifted the lid of the basket on her arm and said, "I have many Manjing seeds and would like to ask your boss if he would like to purchase them. If not, I may ask elsewhere?"

Upon seeing the basket full of Manjing seeds, the woman’s eyes widened, and her attitude took a complete U-turn. She respectfully escorted Cai Wei to the inner room to serve tea while she herself hurriedly went upstairs to inform the boss about the matter.

Cai Wei sat in the inner room, drinking tea leisurely. Soon, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs. She looked back and saw a scholarly man in his thirties descending gently from upstairs.

The man exuded an aura of elegance and after coming down, politely gestured to Cai Wei with a cupped-hand salute, "May I ask, Miss, do you have Manjing seeds?"

Cai Wei nodded and pointed to the basket on the table, "I have many more flowers just like these."
