Chapter 635: Chapter 635: It’s Actually Him(4)_1

Zhou Ji’s Roasted Meat business was no longer as booming as the old Bafu Restaurant, but they were still able to earn two to three taels of silver each day, and the family was rather content. However, Cai Wei declared that she wanted their business to reignite its former glory, even surpassing the old Bafu Restaurant.

To that end, she not only gifted the Zhou Family with a bag of essential spices for roasting meat—cumin, but she also planned to add a new item to ’Zhou Ji’s Roasted Meat’—fried meat skewers!

When mealtime approached, customers started streaming into the restaurant in pairs and threes; most of them were regulars. Seeing the customers arriving, Cai Wei immediately fired up the large pot, poured half a pot of oil, and heated it.

On the stove, two large trays were laid out. The first tray was filled with a variety of meat skewers, while the second tray contained the seasoning she prepared herself—consisting of sesame, cumin, salty noodles, chili powder, and more.

The oil in the pot heated quickly, boiling and bubbling away.

Donning an apron, Cai Wei dropped the skewers into the pot one by one, frying them while hollering, "Fried skewers, fried skewers, all kinds of fried skewers, for five copper coins each! Come taste, come buy..."

The crisp hollering and the aroma wafting from the oil pot quickly attracted several passers-by. They curiously crowded around Cai Wei’s pot, watching her scoop out the fried skewers with a basket, wrapping the bottom of the skewers with an oil paper, and dipping them in the tray of seasonings.

And, in an instant, the oil-dripping skewers were covered with a mix of sesame, chili powder, and cumin powder. They looked highly appetizing.

"Miss, let me try one!"

An old man took out five copper coins and handed them to Cai Wei. Cai Wei accepted the money with a smile, as she cheerfully handed the dripping fried skewer to the old man.

Tasting the skewer, the old man’s eyes narrowed into crescents, "Hmm, delicious! I’ve lived this long and have never tasted anything this good!"

Upon hearing the old man’s words, others couldn’t resist, "Miss, give me five skewers, I want ten skewers..."

For a time, the area around Cai Wei bustled with activity, a solid crowd surrounding her as she served customers and fried skewers, keeping incredibly busy...

Jiujin watched her with melancholy, a sourness in his heart. Oh, how great it would have been if Sister Wei’er wasn’t engaged!

When it was time to close down by night, Cai Wei also packed up her stall. After a rough sum-up, the restaurant’s income for the day was four taels of silver, Cai Wei’s stall earned more than one tael of silver, making a total of over six taels. Aunt Zhou was thrilled and Uncle Zhou was overjoyed; with the cumin provided by Cai Wei and the added item of fried meat skewers, the business at home was bound to thrive even more!

But only Jiujin felt sour. He didn’t care about how the family business was thriving or how much money they were making. He only wished that Sister Wei’er would stay, be with him, stay by his side, and follow him like she used to when they were kids, like his little tail. That would make his life complete.

However, he also understood that she was becoming increasingly distant from him, so far that even if he exhausted his entire life’s strength, he could never catch up to her. He could only watch as she soared higher and higher, further and further away...

"Jiujin, what are you daydreaming about? Today, Cai Wei helped us earn so much more money, aren’t you happy?"

Aunt Zhou nudged her dazed son with her elbow, her eyes reduced to slits, brimming with joy as she looked at the stacks of broken silver and copper coins on the table.

Jiujin snapped back to reality and looked around, only to find that Cai Wei had left at some point. He hurriedly asked, "Where’s Sister Wei’er?"
