Chapter 619: Chapter 619: Zhao Yang is Rescued (7)_1
Aunt Zhou said: "Her grandpa thought to accumulate some bridal gifts money for her while he still has the strength. So, he specially requested me to let them work at my home. They have been working there for over two months now. Her grandpa works as a coachman in my house, and Yuan’er helps me with the chores."
Yuan’er blinked and said, "I have grown up now and can earn my own money. I don’t need to live at the Nursing Home anymore. Grandpa’s health is also robust, he doesn’t need to stay there either, so we decided to move out."
It’s good that they can foresee potential hardships and plan their future. At first, Cai Wei was worried that the children at the Nursing Home would become complacent due to the comfortable life there and would be unwilling to come out to work. Seeing that Yuan’er is so active and positive about life, she is very satisfied!
She then nodded and said, "It’s always better to support oneself and earn your living by your hands rather than living on others’ expenses. Besides, it doesn’t feel good to be treated as one needing help due to old age, sickness, or disability."
Yuan’er blinked her big eyes and said, "Sister, you’re right. The very reason I insisted on coming out was to prevent being taken care of as an old, young, sick, or disabled person. When I grow up, I want to be a great woman just like you."
"You little rascal, stop your idle talk and go check if those maids have arrived in the kitchen. If they’re here, help them make ground dumplings and Hun Dun," Aunt Zhou interrupted her with a laugh and then urged her to leave.
Yuan’er is obedient; when she heard the Mistress’ instruction, she happily left.
Since leaving the Nursing Home, Cai Wei had always wanted to visit it again. She hadn’t been there for a while and didn’t know how things were going there now. Thus, after chatting with Aunt Zhou for a while, she got up and prepared to make a trip to the Nursing Home.
Aunt Zhou grabbed Cai Wei’s hand and said solemnly, "Wei’er, no. Our Qingyun Town isn’t as peaceful as before due to some strange incidents. You’re a girl, and you’re very beautiful, it’s extremely unsafe to go out on your own. If you are seen by those criminals, you could bring a disaster onto yourself!"
Cai Wei laughed, "I came back this time because I have many things to take care of. If I’m afraid even to step out of the door, then why did I come back? Aunt, don’t worry, I know what I’m doing."
After she finished speaking, she gently removed Aunt Zhou’s hand and started walking towards the door, not waiting for Aunt Zhou’s rebuttal.
"Ah, ah, Wei’er, wait!"
Seeing that she couldn’t stop her, Aunt Zhou called Yuan’er to look for her grandpa at the restaurant in the front yard. She wanted him to prepare the carriage to take Cai Wei to the Nursing Home.
Cai Wei didn’t want to reject Aunt Zhou’s kindness, so she sat back down. She chatted with Aunt Zhou while waiting.
Not long after Yuan’er left, the sound of urgent footsteps came from the courtyard, followed by a ’bang’ as the door was flung open. Jiujin rushed in gasping for breath. As soon as he saw Cai Wei, his eyes lit up as if he was looking at the most beautiful sight in the world, and his chest heaved with excitement.
They hadn’t seen each other for several months. Jiujin seemed to have grown taller, and his frame much more robust than before, truly resembling a grown man.
"Wei’er... Sister..."
Jiujin called tentatively, as if he couldn’t believe his own eyes.
"Hello, Brother Jiujin!"
Cai Wei replied, smiling while sitting naturally on the old armchair, nodding to Jiujin in greeting.
"Yes, yes, good!" Jiujin stuttered in his excitement.
Aunt Zhou coughed and awkwardly said, "Jiujin, go back to your work. Wei’er is going to the Nursing Home and will be back later."
Had this happened before, Aunt Zhou would have wished Jiujin to have the opportunity to be with Cai Wei. But now things were different. Wei’er, just like a phoenix soaring into the sky, was high above, grand, and captivating. On the other hand, her son was like a hardworking ox that could only keep its head down and work, simply incapable of matching the splendid phoenix high in the sky. Hence, to prevent her son from being disappointed again, she decided to nip his budding feelings in the bud.
Unexpectedly, Jiujin ignored her and only looked at Cai Wei, saying, "There’s trouble with thieves who pick flowers. I don’t trust anyone else to escort Sister Wei’er; I think it’s best if I go!"
Cai Wei smiled and said, "Brother Jiujin still cares about me as much as he used to when we were kids. I’m glad that I regard him as my real brother!"
Jiujin’s smile froze, and his eyes dimmed. Cai Wei, however, acted as if nothing were amiss and said, "Brother Jiujin, let’s go!"
