Chapter 579: Chapter 579: Shen Juhua(4)_1
"Second Miss, the horse carriage is ready, please get inside!"
A servant resembling a coachman approached. He didn’t give Shen Juhua a glance, but spoke obsequiously to Shen Furong.
"Hmm!"
Shen Furong lazily responded, then turned to a maid and said, "Go and fetch Madam and the two young masters, tell them the carriage is ready!"
"Yes!"
As the maid left, Shen Furong, with the help of her own maid, walked with an air of pride towards the horse carriage. She passed Shen Juhua and cast her a glance of contempt.
Shen Juhua watched Shen Furong board her mother’s horse carriage, her lips tightly pursed and her small fists clenching tightly. Her round face turned red as her eyes filled with the mists of unexpressed indignation and unyielding spirit, yet, ultimately, she was left feeling helpless!
Despite being born legitimate, from her childhood, her father always favored the children of her stepmother. Be it in food, clothing or housing, she, as the legitimate daughter, was outdone by the concubine-born Shen Furong. What angered her the most was that everything of hers, regardless of what it was, would be coveted, and snatched away by Shen Furong if it ever caught her eye. Complaining to her father only led to scoldings for her being unreasonable and not being considerate of her younger sister. If not for her and her mother’s open-mindedness over the years, they would have been driven to despair!
"Miss Shen...."
Cai Wei called softly.
Shen Juhua quickly wiped her eyes with the back of her hand and forced a smile, saying: "Cai Wei, I’m sorry you had to see that. Let’s ride in another carriage!"
The back of that little drooping hand had faint traces of moisture.
Cai Wei glanced at the hand and said, "Miss Shen, don’t be too upset. Remember, what may seem like a blessing can be a curse, and vice versa. Their ability to ride in that carriage may not necessarily be a good thing!"
The housekeeper ordered another coachman to prepare a carriage for Shen Juhua. As they silently waited in front of the stables,...
Soon, a young woman dressed in an ornate pattern woven coverlet was seen strutting over from the direction of the main hall, followed by two boys. The elder looking about eleven or twelve and the younger about eight or nine. Both boys were chubby like two leather balls, waddling behind the lady, surrounded by a group of servants making their way towards the stable.
As they approached, the young woman saw Shen Juhua and chuckled in a mocking tone: "Oh, the eldest lady is also going out?"
Shen Juhua ’hmphed’ in response and turned her head away ignoring her.
The older chubby boy, who was behind the woman, pointed at Shen Juhua’s face and said angrily: "My mother spoke to you, yet you dare address her with such an attitude. I will tell father about this."
Shen Juhua bit her lip, full of resentment and turned back, greeting: "Aunt Yan!"
A maid loudly reprimanded, "Eldest Lady, you are lacking in manners. The Old Master recently instructed that everyone in the mansion should refer to Second Lady as....Second Lady. What happened to the manners young miss was supposed to learn?"
"Speak up now!"
The older chubby boy commanded imperiously.
This time, Shen Juhua refused to yield.
She could lay low and show humility, but she would never afford another woman the same status as her mother. Even if it resulted in her father scolding or punishing her, she would accept it.
Seeing Shen Juhua unresponsive, and implying she didn’t wish to call his mother ’Second Lady,’ the fat boy rolled up his sleeves to teach Shen Juhua a lesson.
Fearing matters would escalate, Lady Yan gripped her son and said: "Let it go, Kang’er, the play is about to start, we will be late if we don’t leave now. We can sort out all this mess after we return home tonight, we’ll inform your father and let him deal with it."
