Chapter 535: Chapter 535 Royal Hunting Ground (7)_1
Everyone, including Cai Wei, was wary of needing bathroom breaks during the journey, so none of them had eaten much in the morning. After a long, exhausting journey, they were now famished, their bellies rumbling in hunger, when suddenly the rich, mouthwatering scent of roast meat hit them.
"Oh my, who is roasting meat? It smells so good!"
"Let’s go and see. If possible, we can buy some to eat!"
"Yeah, let’s go check it out..."
Wu Xiangyun cupped her cheeks with both hands, eagerly watching the branch in Cai Wei’s grip. Skewered on the branch was a glistening, golden-brown wild rabbit, already roasted to perfection. Various seasonings like cumin, salty noodles, and chili powder had been sprinkled on top, accentuating the rabbit’s golden hue and making it look incredibly delicious.
"Cai Wei, when will it be done? I’m starving!"
Xiang Yun clutched her rumbling stomach and looked pitifully at Cai Wei.
"It’s already done. Roasting it a bit longer will only make it taste better."
Cai Wei broke off a leg of the rabbit and passed it over "Try this. Don’t you think I have the potential to be a chef?"
Xiang Yun took the rabbit leg and immediately stuffed it into her mouth, munching away with no regard for appearances.
"Mmm... Mmm... Delicious..."
She had practically shoved the entire leg into her mouth, her cheeks stuffed with food and her eyes shining brightly. She looked exactly like a squirrel.
"Pfft—"
Cai Wei laughed and handed her the rest of the rabbit. "Take your time eating. Don’t choke. I’ll go find some wild vegetables. Just eating rabbit would be too greasy."
"Um... Um... Hurry up... or I... will finish everything..."
Xiang Yun mumbled a jesting threat at her.
Laughing at Xiang Yun’s hilarious antics, Cai Wei set off.
Once she was far enough away, Cai Wei entered the Space and brought out the fern vegetables that she had collected earlier. After blanching them, she served them cold along with a few drops of sesame oil and some sugar and vinegar. Then she sprinkled sesame and salty noodles over the top. She found a pumpkin growing nearby and used it as a bowl by cutting off the top and removing the insides. She then filled it with the seasoned fern vegetables.
Since she had roasted such a fat rabbit, it was absolutely delicious at first. However, it could become quite greasy after eating a lot, so Cai Wei specifically prepared this salad to offset that for both Xiang Yun and herself.
After she mixed everything up, Cai Wei left the Space and started walking back toward Xiang Yun with the pumpkin bowl, but before she got close, she heard a sharp rebuke aimed at Xiang Yun from a female voice.
"How dare you! When Princess Zhao Yang wants to buy your rabbit, you dare to refuse! Who gave you the courage to defy the Princess?"
The voice belonged to the incessantly annoying Princess Helena, probably trying to please Princess Zhao Yang by attempting to take Xiang Yun’s rabbit while she was away.
Cai Wei’s eyes flashed coldly, and she quickened her steps toward Xiang Yun.
Xiang Yun’s location
A few noblewomen were gathered around Xiang Yun and Princess Helena, softly attempting to mediate. Helena was clearly furious, one hand on her hip and the other pointing accusingly at Xiang Yun as she scolded her loudly.
"Under the heavens, isn’t every piece of land the King’s, and aren’t all the people the King’s subjects? Everything in the kingdom belongs to the royal family. Why can’t the Princess eat this rabbit?"
Xiang Yun pressed her lips together, lingered and then said, "I don’t believe Princess Zhao Yang could do something as vulgar as taking someone else’s food. You must be trying to steal my rabbit!"
"Pfft—"
Cai Wei couldn’t help but chuckle.
Initially, she was worried that Xiang Yun might be bullied by Helena, but after hearing Xiang Yun’s words, her anger dissipated instantly, and she almost burst into laughter.
