Chapter 532: Chapter 532 Royal Hunting Ground (4)_1
The imperial procession traveled from the inner city to the outer city, crossing over the moat and finally making its way up the Imperial Street, before leaving through the great gate of the capital and boldly embarking on the official road to the royal hunting grounds.
With the Emperor traveling, strict measures were naturally taken in advance, with road clearing implemented. Along the way, there was absolute silence, broken only by the clip-clop of horse hooves and the rumble of carriage wheels.
After being scolded by Cai Wei, both Princess Zhao Yang and Helana acted much more reserved. Although deeply resentful, they did not dare to retaliate. Both looked sullen, speaking little during the journey.
Delighted by the newfound peace, Cai Wei leisurely munched on her melon seeds, ignoring them completely.
The royal hunting ground was more than twenty li from the Capital, but because it was the Emperor’s chariot leaving the palace, with its many tedious formalities, and many guards, palace maids, and eunuchs had to go on foot, it took nearly two hours to arrive.
The last time Cai Wei was here was the night she collected spiritual energy. Because she was in a hurry to gather the energy, she didn’t have the chance to take in the scenery of the area. Even if she wanted to, the pitch-dark night wouldn’t have allowed her to see much, especially as she was riding on a white tiger’s back, with its swift movement leaving her with no chance to view any scenery clearly.
This time, coming with the main group, the slower pace of the procession allowed her ample opportunity to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the hunting ground.
The royal hunting ground was home to towering ancient trees, mostly broad-leaved evergreens. The robust and verdant trees were so lush, they dripped with greenery. As one wandered deeper into the dense forest, the sunlight streamed through the gaps in the tree branches, casting a picturesque light over the gnarled branches and ancient bark of the old trees, creating an atmosphere akin to the poetic phrase "the forest becomes quieter as the cicadas chirp, the mountain seems more secluded with the birds’ song".
A mountain spring meandered along the ravine, leaving behind a pleasant, chiming melody. Pine trees drank from the water’s edge, while small fish frolicked in the stream.
A gentle breeze cast ripples on the sparkling spring water, like a brilliant brocade laid across the dense forest. The aroma of wildflowers was overwhelming, pouring forth a delightful fragrance that touched the heart. Looking up at the blue sky, white clouds, tall mountains, and flying birds, it was like viewing a painting meticulously crafted by nature itself!
The procession halted. Before the servants could assist her, Princess Zhao Yang lifted the curtain of the carriage and alighted, storming away in a huff. Helana followed Princess Zhao Yang out of the carriage, casting a hostile glance at Cai Wei before heading in the same direction.
Unfazed, Cai Wei merely smiled and got off the carriage with the help of An Xiang. Aunt Qingqiu approached and said respectfully, "Princess, please follow me to rest."
Cai Wei laughed and said, "Thank you, Aunt Qingqiu."
Aunt Qingqiu replied, "Your Highness is too kind. It is my honor to serve you!"
Aunt Qingqiu led Cai Wei away from the carriage procession to a slightly flat area in the mountains, where a dozen houses had been constructed, serving as a resting place for the Emperor during his hunting trips.
Accommodations were limited: aside from the Emperor who had a room for himself, the Empress and Jin Guifei each occupied their own rooms. The remaining rooms were shared among many.
Even so, there were not enough rooms to accommodate everyone. Many members of the imperial family had to settle for temporary tents in the grassland, much like the ministers and their families.
Fortunately, Cai Wei was granted living quarters. She was assigned to share a room with Helana and Princess Zhao Yang.
The small room they were assigned was equipped with a geothermal incense burner, a wardrobed dressing table, and a high bed with soft pillows. However, the bed was rather small, and she wondered how the three of them would manage to sleep on it that night.
An Xiang and Hong Rui barely managed to put their parcels into the wardrobe before collapsing from exhaustion.
The twenty li journey from the palace had left them utterly exhausted. If not for their ambition to show off their nobility and wealth in the future, they would have probably collapsed halfway there.
