Chapter 493: Chapter 493: Dealing with the Evil Slave for a Second Time(2)_1
Huan Qiu acknowledged with a sound before flying out of the carriage. She landed next to the rabbit, picked it up, and flew back into the carriage. The entire process only took a blink of an eye and nearly caused Lady Du’s eyes to pop out of surprise.
What is this girl’s background? She’s too amazing!
"Sigh... "
All of a sudden, the carriage came to a halt and the Coachman turned to announce, "Respected Old Madam and Fourth Aunt, we have arrived."
"Oh, we’re here!"
Upon hearing this, Lady Mei excitedly said, "Quick, help me down. I haven’t left the Duke An’s mansion in over thirty years. I want to feel the soil of a different place."
Upon hearing this, Lady Du felt a wave of sadness. She didn’t bother to investigate Huan’s Qiu’s agile skills and helped her mother off the carriage.
At the entrance, the Zhang Family, headed by Biaotou, was waiting. As soon as they saw Lady Du and Lady Mei, they hurried over to greet them."
"Please, no formalities!" Lady Du stepped forward and stopped old Madame Zhang from kneeling before them. She laughed and said, "Old Madame, you’re too humble. Girl Wei doesn’t treat you all as servants, yet you treat yourselves as such."
Old Madame Zhang replied with respect, "Madam is too kind. Our family has received so much grace from Miss. Even though we don’t have a servitude contract with the Miss, we already regard her as our Master."
Lady Du laughed, "Look at what you are saying. If you think like this, wouldn’t you be betraying her goodwill towards you!"
Old Madame Zhang wanted to say more, but was interrupted by Cai Wei who laughed and held up the rabbit from earlier, "Everyone, let’s not just stand here in the cold. Come in! Let’s have roast rabbit for lunch!"
"Yes, yes, please come in, Madam. Look at me, I was so engrossed in talking that I forgot to invite you in for a rest."
Old Madame Zhang stepped forward, held Lady Mei’s hand, greeted everyone with a wide smile, and led them into the Manor.
The manor was a three-storied green brick mansion with fifteen main rooms. There were also storehouses and utility rooms. The courtyard was planted with Begonia, peach, apricot, and pear trees, among other fruit trees. There were also rows of cabbages planted in any available space, making it seem prosperous and full of rural charm.
Cai Wei and her family naturally lived in the main hall in the center. The rooms had been prepared early and were fully furnished. The bedding and curtains were all new. Lady Du was very satisfied after inspecting them.
Old Madame Zhang helped Lady Mei and Biaotou’s wife, Lady Yu. She supported Lady Du into the main room and had everyone sit down to chat. They talked about what crops should be sown in the coming days.
Cai Wei had long planned what to grow on the manor’s land. When Lady Yu asked about it, Cai Wei shared her plans. She also mentioned that she planned to raise some livestock like chickens, ducks, geese, pigs, sheep, and cows. The former would be for laying eggs and slaughtering, and the latter for producing milk.
Every day, their dessert shop needed a lot of eggs and butter. It would be too wasteful to buy them from outside. Therefore, Cai Wei planned to raise some cows in the manor to be self-sufficient. She also stated that she would assign over ten servants from the manor to be at their disposal.
Old Madame Zhang and Lady Yu had no objections to Cai Wei’s arrangements. Lady Du was pregnant and had a strong tendency to sleep and laze about. Lady Mei, being old and sick, was tired after the long journey. After speaking for a bit, the two were too tired to continue. Seeing this, old Madame Zhang excused herself with her daughter-in-law and quietly went to prepare lunch.
After Cai Wei had rested for a bit, she ordered Dou Momo and Huan Qiu to serve the two women in the room. She then went out for a walk alone.
Outside, it was a beautiful spring day. The sky was cloudless; birds were chirping, and flowers were blooming, filling the landscape with the feeling of spring. Cai Wei leisurely walked on the countryside path, admiring the colorful wild flowers and taking in the fresh scent of the grass mixed with the earthy aroma. Her spirit felt lifted, and her body was significantly more relaxed.
