Chapter 455: Chapter 455: Great Prince of Liaodan (2)_1

Noble Concubine Jin was becoming increasingly arrogant these days. At the court banquet, she had the audacity to utter veiled threats. This was clearly a curse or a threat to her and Yi’er, forcing her to keep silent.

Seeing the Empress falter, Luo Xue came over with a Shu Brocade cloak adorned with green and cloud-like patterned beads and peacock designs. She draped it over Empress Mo, and softly said, "Empress, we must guard against the chill of Autumn as well as the warmth of Spring. The Emperor was worried that you might catch a cold, hence he had this cloak sent over from the Internal Affairs Department yesterday. Please put it on quickly. If you catch a cold, the Emperor will be distressed."

Seeing the luxurious and vibrant cloak, a hint of resentment flashed across Noble Concubine Jin’s face.

In the past, the Emperor would have let her and her son have any nice things that came along. But ever since King Qin found and brought back former National Teacher Li Chongzong, who had been missing for over twenty years, the Emperor had started to favor the Empress and her son, even granting the Empress this cloak without extending the same courtesy towards her. This had never happened before.

The Empress had regained some dignity due to the cloak, her cold face warmed up a bit.

Just then, there was a sudden announcement from a eunuch, "Reporting to the Empress, the Great Prince of Liaodan Kingdom, Saknu, is here—"

The eunuch was extremely tactful. He didn’t say ’Reporting to Empress Dowager,’ nor did he say ’Reporting to Noble Concubine Jin,’ he merely said ’Reporting to Empress,’ thus offending neither of them, leaving neither of them any room to find fault with him.

Upon hearing the young eunuch’s announcement, Noble Concubine Jin looked at Empress Mo with apparent amusement, laughed and said, "Oh? Has the Great Prince of Liaodan not left yet? It seems that he truly does have feelings for our Princess Zhao Yang. Despite facing so many rejections, he still hasn’t given up. I’d say, Empress, why not agree to him? Who knows, maybe one day Princess Zhao Yang might become the Empress of the Liaodan? Wouldn’t that be something for the Empress to be proud of?"

Though Prince Saknu may indeed become the ruler of Liaodan in the future, his infamous reputation for being cruel and sadistic had long since spread to the Great Jin, known to all and sundry.

It was said that he had married four or five Royal Consorts, all of whom he brutally harmed to their deaths, their bodies left in terrible condition. Hence, in the territory of Liaodan, no woman dared to marry him.

Despite being hailed as ’The Liaodan invincible,’ and the great hope for the future ruler of the Liaodan Prairie, when it comes to glory or life, any woman would choose the latter.

Thus, not just Empress Mo, but even minor talents in the palace were unwilling to send their daughters to Liaodan, many miles away, to become the wife of such a dangerous prince.

Hearing Noble Concubine Jin’s taunts, Empress Mo gave a cold smile and said, "Since Noble Concubine Jin thinks so highly of Prince Saknu, why doesn’t the Empress suggest to him that he marry your Princess Zhao Gui? Let that glory be yours truly, wouldn’t that be even better?"

Noble Concubine Jin chuckled, "Wouldn’t that require the Emperor’s consent first? The Emperor has already stated that Zhao Gui is not to be wed far away. If the Emperor permits, I couldn’t be happier for Zhao Gui to become the mistress of the Liaodan Prairie!"

This insincere remark, was undoubtedly a disguised boast about the Emperor’s affection for Princess Zhao Gui, aimed at undermining the Empress, while attempting to belittle her for flaunting her newly gifted cloak.

As the two women were engaged in this tit for tat, Prince Saknu, along with his entourage, strode in.

His entrance drew the attention of everyone present.

Saknu was a formidable figure, godlike in stature. With his bronzed skin, sturdy body, and a dark blue Liaodan long robe with a re-entrant pattern, he was a sight to behold. A string of large amber beads adorned his neck, and his long black hair hung loosely down his back. The sunlight made his hair shine like a black curtain. He wore a golden eagle inlaid with sapphire hair band, its rebellious eagle emblem resembling him in several ways. The sparkling sapphire echoed his light blue pupils, complementing each other, making his face look even more cold, arrogant, and unruly.
