Chapter 437: Chapter 437 Nangong Yi’s True Feelings(7)_1

This deeply engraved longing made him nearly irresistible to go see her on several occasions. However, when near home, his courage faltered. At every moment before he saw her, he withheld his desire.

He could not give her what she wanted. Seeing her only led to arguments and discomfort. What was the point?

Every day, he spent mired in endless remorse and longing. His life no longer shone brightly with various colors like before. His daily joy came from listening to Zhui Feng and Zhu Yue report back about her activities: what she had done, what she had eaten, the people she had met, and how much silver she had earned. Even these trivial matters seemed so vivid and adorable to him, fascinating him immensely.

How he wished to live this mundane life with her, every day. They could eat meals together, they could chit-chat, earn money together, and retire to the same home to sleep. Such a life was so real, so beautiful!

Regretfully, his life had never been his own. From the moment he was born, he shouldered the life and death of his mother, sister, maternal grandfather and their entire family.

For these heavy responsibilities, he had no choice but to painfully give up many things, including the most precious thing - her.

However, deep in his subconscious, he never truly gave up. He resisted marriage, rejected other women, because he knew once he got married, the gap between them could truly not be bridged. So, he hesitated, tortured and suffered.

Until today, Consort Huo went to the Imperial Mother to request she designate her for Huo Yuan. Upon hearing this news, his heart hurt as if it had been slowly cut with a blunt knife, he could hardly breathe. If this became reality, it would kill him.

At this point, he realized if he hesitated any further, she would well and truly belong to someone else!

In his agony, he made a resolute decision. He wanted to live for himself once, just once. Regardless of whether his Imperial Mother agreed, he, Nangong Yi, was determined to marry Mu Caiwei, he refused to change!

Just now in the Imperial Mother’s Jade Palace, he had an intense argument with her over this matter. His Imperial Mother was so angry she fainted. This was why he was unable to appear at the Shangsi Festival Banquet on time.

As soon as news reached him of an emergency here, he rushed to the scene, leaving his Imperial Mother behind unbeknownst to what happened there. Yet, he wished to express his heartfelt thoughts to Wei’er first, then he would go visit his Imperial Mother.

Seeing her still hesitating, Nangong Yi took a step forward and chuckled, "Since we are already here, allow me to speak now!"

"Wait!"

Caiwei interrupted him.

She knew Nangong Yi had a thick face and could be shameless, at this moment she was indeed afraid he would brazenly say something unseemly. She gritted her teeth to glare at him for a moment and then indignant, spat out, "Let’s go!"

Nangong Yi chuckled lightly, provocatively glanced at Huo Yuan and answered, "Let’s go then, onward to my Blue Water Pavilion."

Just as Caiwei was about to step out, her wrist was grabbed by Huo Yuan.

"Wei’er."

Caiwei returned her gaze back to him, saying warmly, "I’ll be right back. Don’t worry..."

Huo Yuan nodded, smiling with grace and charm.

"Good. I will wait for you..."

The moment Caiwei left with Nangong Yi, Du Wanru, who had been hiding in the crowd, quickly followed. Catching up to Caiwei, she whispered, "Sister, where are you going? Let me accompany you."

Hearing this, Nangong Yi, who was ahead, turned around. Spotting Du Wanru looking at him with a shy smile, he watched as she quickly curtsied and delicately said, "I am Miss Du Wanru, and I wish Your Highness, King Qin, peace and prosperity!"

"My maid?"

Nangong Yi furrowed his eyebrows, somewhat puzzled.

Cai Wei twitched the corner of her mouth, explaining: "She is the maiden from the second room of Duke An’s mansion, accompanying me to the banquet in the palace."

Nangong Yi coldly glanced at Du Wanru, sneering: "So, the Duke An’s mansion has already fallen to this point?"

He said, without waiting for Du Wanru to answer, took Cai Wei’s wrist, and left on his own.

The smile on Du Wanru’s face was frozen, and she stood there, unable to think of what to do.

What’s going on?

She had already shown her sweetest smile to him, which was the 45-degree angle look she had practiced in front of the mirror a few hundred times. That smile was fresh, polished, and perfect, which did not have the allure of that slut Mu Caiwei, but it had a touch of elegance. At least, he wouldn’t get sick of her from a single glance and make harsh remarks.

But, clear and distinct, the words came from his mouth!

Although Du Wanru is a maiden-in-waiting, she has been encouraged by her mother and grandmother to be bold when seeking a man, but being humiliated in public by a man still left her wanting to find a hole to retreat into, too shamed to raise her head.

After a long time, she finally summoned up the courage, and pretended to be as if nothing had happened and raised her head. There she found that her worries were redundant.

People did not pay any attention to her. All eyes were on King Qin, who was slowly walking away, and the beautiful person whom King Qin was holding hands with.

King Qin, was actually holding the hand of that beauty!

You know, this is an era of non-intimacy between men and women. It’s rare for a man and a woman to hold hands in public. The fact that King Qin had such intimacy with this woman indicated that their relationship must be quite outstanding.

When King Qin and the beauty walked away and out of sight, everyone turned their eyes to Miss Li from the General’s Mansion. Some people expressed sympathy, others took delight in her misfortune, and some simply wanted to join in the excitement.

However, Li Ruizhu had indeed shown her high standards by having no emotions on her face. Even after all that drama, she sat unaffected, helping Zhao Yang onto the sedan chair, headed to Zhao Yang Palace where Princess Zhao Yang resided.

Du Wanru took a sigh of relief, just as she prepared to slip silently back into the crowd, she noticed out of the corner of her eye that Du Wanqiu, from the primary room, was standing beside the young master Huo, looking at him intently and saying something.

"Heh!"

Du Wanru chuckled, this good cousin of hers who claimed that she came to the Shangsi Festival banquet not to find a man, turned out not coming to find a man, but to steal a man. And that man is Young Master Huo. Her ambition certainly isn’t small!

Du Wanru smirked, just as she was about to go forward and expose her, a maid in a purple short dress came to her and whispered, "Miss, our lady has asked for you."

Du Wanru was surprised, "Who are you? And who is your lady?"

The maid in the purple dress said, "The servant is a second-class maidservant named Zi Chou from the miss from the Great General’s Mansion. The miss saw you a long time ago and instructed the servant to bring you over. She wants to have a few words with you."

Du Wanru was puzzled. Although Li Ruizhu was her cousin, she was always looking down on them, considering herself of noble status and unwilling to mingle with them. Occasionally, she interacted with Du Wanqiu from the primary room and still acted high and mighty, treating Du Wanqiu like a servant. As for them, Miss Li never bothered. Suddenly, why was she so solicitous?
