Chapter 1364: Chapter 1371: Jealousy (4)
Mo Zili spoke coldly, "I’ve said it before, I never signed that divorce letter; it doesn’t count at all. You, Wu Xiangyun, are still my lawful wife."
Situ Changge said, "So you’re Young Master Mo. I apologize for any disrespect. Since you consider Xiangyun your wife, why doesn’t she live in Duke Li Guo’s Mansion but resides in the Mansion of Marquis Jian’an instead? The Emperor expressly granted the divorce, and yet you dismiss it as irrelevant. Does Young Master Mo, born of a noble family, intend to defy the imperial decree?"
Already harboring deep hatred for him, Mo Zili, seeing him daring to defend Xiangyun, gave him a cold glance and said, "Whether I defy the decree is none of your business. I’m only warning you to stay away from her. Even if she indeed divorced me, she still remains the precious daughter of a noble house, far beyond the reach of a lowly merchant like you!"
Situ Changge, not upset by Mo Zili’s mocking, instead replied calmly, "It’s true that Young Master Mo’s status matches with Xiangyun. Sadly, a divorce occurred just the same, didn’t it? True love does not care about status. The Empress of our Great Jin Dynasty also comes from a merchant family, just like myself. So, it is not unreasonable for me to match with the daughter of a noble house."
Wu Xiangyun knew Situ Changge intentionally made their relationship sound ambiguous and provocative, to anger him on her behalf. Thinking of her new and old grievances with Mo Zili and realizing they were alone in the room, she boldly played along with Situ Changge, "Mo Zili, your beloved used to be the daughter of a convicted official, a slave even — lower than a mere merchant. You mock others, yet should first see if you are spotless yourself!"
Mo Zili, hearing their ambiguous words, his face turning ashen. He sneered, "So, you two are involved together, aren’t you?"
"What do you mean involved? That sounds so offensive!"
Situ Changge, challenging Mo Zili, raised his eyebrows and said, "Young Master Li, we are both unmarried, mutually affectionate, what’s wrong with that? Where does this accusation of being involved come from?"
"Shut up, the esteemed daughter of a noble house isn’t something a lowly merchant like you can covet!"
Mo Zili roared furiously, utterly angered by Situ’s provocation. His rage reached a peak, his eyes nearly bursting from rage, he stepped forward to grab Xiangyun, intending to take her away. As for where and what consequences, he wasn’t able to think that far!
Xiangyun, startled by his ferocious demeanor and seeing him storming towards her, suddenly sprang up and ran around the table to hide behind Situ Changge, refusing to come out.
The moment Mo Zili tried to grab Xiangyun, Situ Changge had stood up, using his tall figure to protect her securely, feeling her fear, he gently tapped her hand, signaling her not to be afraid.
"Wu Xiangyun, you disgraceful woman, come out here!"
Seeing Xiangyun hiding behind Situ Changge, pulling and tugging at him, Mo Zili’s eyes reddened with jealousy, his reason fleeing to the Java Country, let alone maintaining any semblance of a nobleman’s demeanor.
Facing Mo Zili’s raging fury, Situ Changge stood his ground, looking directly at the furious Mo Zili, he calmly said, "Young Master Mo, this kind of coercion isn’t proper, is it?"
Mo Zili coldly chuckled, venomously saying, "This is between her and me, what does it have to do with you? Don’t think just because she shows you some affection that you can assume the role of her man. Remember, she is a noble daughter, and you are but a peddler; the Marquis of Jian’an would never marry his daughter to you!"
To his insult, Situ Changge didn’t take it to heart, he calmly said, "So what? At least we have mutual affection, I still have a chance. Unlike you, you’ve lost even that!"
