Chapter 1220: Chapter 1226: Situ Changge (1)
"Gurgle... Gurgle..."
Xiang Yun’s stomach protested loudly; she hadn’t eaten dinner last night after arguing with Mo Zili and, angry as she was, had skipped meals last night and this morning as well. She had planned to meet Cai Wei and then feast at a restaurant outside, but no matter how long she waited, the Empress Dowager just didn’t show up.
She supported her cheek with one hand and randomly tapped on the table with the other, extremely frustrated!
Nanny Xie heard the gurgling from Xiang Yun’s stomach and said with pity, "Young Madam, are you hungry? Should I, the old servant, go out and buy you something to tide you over? It’s been two meals already; even an iron body couldn’t bear it!"
Xiang Yun touched her stomach and nodded, "That sounds good; go ahead, buy a lot..."
"Alright—"
Nanny Xie agreed and hurriedly turned out from behind the screen, walking briskly outside.
Normally, running errands like buying groceries could be delegated to servants, sparing her, the dignified nanny, the task. However, Nanny Xie was worried lest the servants didn’t buy clean food and caused Young Madam’s stomach trouble which would make her, the nanny, also distressed.
Upon reaching outside, a horse carriage was parked there; Cai Wei was helping a yellow, skinny young man off the carriage.
"Oh, Empre—"
Seeing Cai Wei, Nanny Xie was about to kneel and pay her respects when she caught Cai Wei signaling with her eyes. Nanny Xie quickly restrained herself and just offered a deep bow.
Cai Wei asked, "Nanny, where were you going?"
Nanny Xie cautiously replied, "Our Young Madam has a bad stomach, and the old servant is out to fetch some food for her!"
Cai Wei said, "There’s no need for that, it’s nearly late morning already. I’ll take your master out to eat instead." With that, she led Liu Xi into the residence and Nanny Xie followed behind her back.
As the Boss arrived, Situ Changge hurriedly came over to greet her. Cai Wei laughed and said, "Master Situ, no need for formalities. Where is Madam Mo?"
"Right here!"
Hearing that Cai Wei had arrived, Xiang Yun quickly ran out from behind the screen, forgetting to put on her gauze hat. She gave Cai Wei a resentful look and said, "Why have you only just arrived? I’ve been waiting for you all morning."
Xiang Yun was frank by nature and treated Cai Wei as a close friend, not being overly formal due to Cai Wei’s noble identity. Cai Wei really liked this about Xiang Yun; if she had treated her subserviently because she became the Empress, their friendship would have ended long ago!
Cai Wei apologized, "I’m really sorry. Just as I was about to leave, I got caught up in some trivial matters and just managed to escape. I hurried over after hearing your nanny say you were hungry. How about I treat you to a meal to make it up to you?"
With her stomach growling, Xiang Yun’s grievances dissipated somewhat upon hearing that she was being treated to a meal. She snorted and said, "That’s more like it. I’ll make sure to eat a lot, enough to eat you out of house and home!"
Seeing her clenched little fist and ambitious demeanor, Situ Changge couldn’t help but interject with a laugh, "Madam, rest assured, even if you become a big-bellied Maitreya Buddha, you won’t eat our Boss out of house and home!"
Xiang Yun glared at her and said harshly, "I won’t talk to a dishonest merchant with a black heart!"
Situ Changge gave a bitter smile and rubbed his forehead. Cai Wei looked puzzled and asked, "What’s the matter? Our Master Situ is a young talent; how did he become a dishonest merchant with a black heart?"
Fuming, Xiang Yun retorted, "What young talent? I think he’s talented without virtue, completely lacking a basic sense of empathy, simply rotten!"
