But before she even approached the table, her eldest nephew pinched his nose in disgust, "You can eat far away! You stink to death!"

"I’ve showered several times already, I don’t stink any longer." said Li Chunhua in a pitiful tone.

"You still stink! It’s so dreadful I can’t even eat." The eldest nephew slammed his chopsticks in a tantrum.

The elderly Mrs. Li immediately yelled at Li Chunhua, "Who are you trying to disgust! Go eat by the door."

Her grandson was her most beloved, she couldn’t bear to see him slighted.

The daughter-in-law and granddaughter keep their heads down and ate their meal, knowing it wasn’t their place to speak.

Li Chunhua didn’t dare raise her voice, she took her bowl and squatted under the eaves. Even though she had no appetite, she had to eat, or else she’d be kept awake by hunger for the whole night.

At night, she was on the bed shivering. She started to burn with fever in the early morning and was too weak to get out of bed.

"Such bad luck! Always getting sick to avoid work." When the elderly Mrs. Li saw that she didn’t get up for work, she entered the room and saw Chunhua indeed had a fever. She muttered and scolded for a while.

She didn’t care about her and certainly didn’t leave her breakfast.

Li Chunhua was both hungry and thirsty, her mouth was dry and cracked, and her stomach felt like it was on fire.

She could only eat the dry skin from her lips, swallow her saliva, and endure until the burning sensation and the metallic taste of blood were unavoidable.

So she endured until noon, laying in bed she couldn’t help but start to cry softly for fear of disturbing her nephews.

The door creaked open and her older sister-in-law, during a break from work, it brought hot water in a bowl and a wet towel. She carefully placed the towel on Chunhua’s forehead.

Then she fed her the water little by little. "Don’t cry anymore, recover fast. The family won’t spend money on a doctor or medicine for you."

If they fell sick, they could only bear it, if they could not, they were simply buried.

Li Chunhua knew exactly how the Li family treated their daughters!

Yet, she had not suffered like this in a long time! At the Chen family, she was specially cared for when she was sick, she didn’t have to work and they made her sweet soup with eggs for nourishment.

"You’re lucky! You married into a good family. All the daughters-in-laws envy you. You must behave and be a good daughter-in-law and wife when you’re back in the in-law’s house! Just don’t make any more mistakes and get sent back here." The older sister-in-law advised with a face full of envy.

Li Chunhua regretted deeply in her heart. If she knew it would be like this, she wouldn’t have provoked the child.

If she could return, she promised to steer clear of that child at all costs!

In the evening, the smell of food wafting from outside made her so hungry, she had to drag herself out of bed against all odds to eat.

"You eat like there’s no tomorrow! Eating all the time but not doing anything else. Complains of dying even for slight work. Eat, eat, EAT! Eat yourself to death!"

Mrs. Li continued her grumbling, but she didn’t stop her from eating.

After all, if she were to starve to death here, it would be difficult to explain to the Chen family, not to mention the opportunity to get some compensation when they come to fetch her.
