Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart
Chapter 719 - 718: Why Use a Cleaver to Kill Her?

Chapter 719: Chapter 718: Why Use a Cleaver to Kill Her?

Sun Guanghui walked out of Peking University, his spirit seemingly shattered. Nearly stumbling down the stairs, his legs almost gave way beneath him.

He staggered a few steps before a pair of hands steadied him.

Mrs. Sun furrowed her brows as she looked at him, then glanced at the Peking University plaque behind him: "Did you go find her?"

Sun Guanghui looked at his mother, silent for a long while, then said: "She broke up with me... are you satisfied now?"

Mrs. Sun let out a long sigh of relief, gently patted the dust off her son’s shoulder and said though her words differed:

"What’s there to be satisfied or not satisfied about, you make your own decisions, Mom just gave you some advice... It’s just that you’re still young and don’t understand the reasoning behind it, not to mention—would your father be the deputy factory director if he hadn’t married me, without your grandfather supporting him?"

Mrs. Sun tidied up Sun Guanghui’s clothes and said with a smile: "Alright, let’s go, accompany Mom to buy some stuff to take back to your grandparents."

Sun Guanghui shook off her hand.

He looked at her surprised expression, silent for a moment, then said: "You go by yourself, I... I’m going to sleep."

Mrs. Sun was startled by her son’s sudden reaction, reaching out to grab him again, but only caught the strap of his watch.

"What are you doing!"

Sun Guanghui almost bounced as if his fur had been yanked.

He covered his watch, carefully examining it with a furrowed brow.

Mrs. Sun was filled with confusion, thinking this boy’s reaction was really off.

Yet she didn’t pry on the spot and only said: "It’s alright, no worries, I just suddenly remembered I left something at the guest house. Don’t go back to the dorm yet, Mom is leaving tomorrow, come, let’s have a chat, just the two of us."

Sun Guanghui didn’t want to talk to her; his heart was extraordinarily agitated.

But long-standing habits aren’t easily overcome; after a moment of silence, he followed Mrs. Sun to the guest house.

Mrs. Sun had no important matters to discuss; she only urged him to study well and not to be heartbroken over relationship issues.

As if Wang Shumei breaking up with Sun Guanghui had nothing to do with her at all.

Sun Guanghui, bothered by the conversation, closed his eyes and fell asleep.

Mrs. Sun, rather than getting angry upon seeing him asleep, felt a slight joy instead.

She stretched out her hand silently, unclasping his watch.

With just one look, she realized it wasn’t the same watch she had bought for her son years ago.

Seeing how dear he held it, could this be...

Mrs. Sun, harboring her doubts and glancing at her soundly sleeping son, quietly took the watch and left.

...

Half an hour had passed.

Wang Shumei looked at the sparse three and a half characters on Lin Nianhe’s draft paper and asked, "Do you really feel nothing?"

Lin Nianhe supported her head with an air of despair: "Feel something? What could I possibly feel? Yesterday, I hadn’t even walked 100 meters into campus before I learned that Writer Wen was admitted to the journalism program. My only thought is to defend my innocence with Earth even if it means perishing with her..."

"But the problem is, you can’t write that down, can you? Otherwise, what innocence am I supposed to defend when the teacher asks me?"

Wang Shumei looked at her sympathetically, "It’s good that our class doesn’t need to write this."

No doubt about it, seeing Lin Nianhe in this state... She felt her own breakup was nothing in comparison.

"Lin Nianhe, your brother’s looking for you! He’s downstairs!"

A call came down the corridor.

"Coming!"

Lin Nianhe instantly dropped her pen and raced out.

"Look at that, not doing homework sure makes you eager for anything."

Wang Shumei shook her head in resignation, finishing the character "想" with its missing "心" for Lin Nianhe.

This counts as having written for her, doesn’t it?

Hmm...how could it not count...

Wang Shumei let out a sigh of relief, feeling that she had done right by her friend, and immediately put down her pen to tidy up.

Lin Nianhe dashed downstairs, and as soon as she stepped outside, she saw Lin Huai Zhou in his crisp military uniform.

"Brother!"

She called out crisply and ran up to him, "You’re back, are you hurt? Let me see."

Lin Huai Zhou spread his arms and took a spin, "See for yourself? I’m fine."

"What did you do?" Lin Nianhe asked casually.

"Exercises," Lin Huai Zhou replied, "handled a few little bastards."

Lin Nianhe couldn’t help but think of a few unlucky folks she had met only once.

Lin Huai Zhou placed a leather suitcase beside her, "I brought you some clothes from Sui City, along with some trinkets and snacks. Share them with your classmates."

"Thank you, Brother." Lin Nianhe smiled in response, and asked him, "Have you been home? Are you staying for good this time?"

"I’ve been home, reported for work before coming here, and won’t be leaving any time soon." Lin Huai Zhou patted her head, "I’ll pick you up this weekend; no need for you to squeeze onto the bus."

"Okay." Lin Nianhe beamed, "Brother, I’ll take the suitcase up first, then bring a friend of mine from a trip to the countryside to have dinner with you, how about that?"

"Sure, take your time getting ready, I’m going to find Su Yuncheng."

"His dorm is over there." Lin Nianhe pointed him in the direction of the male dormitory, then added, "Just call for me here when you arrive, I’m on the second floor, I’ll be able to hear."

"Okay, go ahead."

Lin Nianhe picked up the suitcase and started walking back when someone called out to her.

"Young comrade, this is the girls’ dormitory, isn’t it?"

Hearing the familiar Northeastern accent, Lin Nianhe turned to see a face that resembled Sun Guanghui by about fifty percent, and her wariness immediately skyrocketed.

"Yes, may I help you with something?"

"Could you please call out Wang Shumei for me?"

With the opportunity presented right in front of her, how could Lin Nianhe not take it?

She briskly replied, "I can’t, I’m busy."

Mrs. Sun didn’t expect to be rejected with just a casual polite request; her brows furrowed at once.

Lin Nianhe took a couple of steps back, her face filled with panic, "Ma’am, why are you being so scary? Isn’t it okay if I call for you?"

After saying this, she dashed back, not even leaving Mrs. Sun a chance to respond.

Mrs. Sun was so infuriated that she gasped for breath, rubbing her chest on the spot until she finally calmed down a bit.

Lin Huai Zhou hadn’t gone far and, seeing this scene in front of him, and remembering that Lin Nianhe had mentioned Wang Shumei’s name at home, he simply stopped a male student and asked him to call Su Yuncheng over, while he stood guard like a door deity.

Lin Nianhe leisurely strolled back to the dormitory, placed the suitcase down, and went to Room 206, telling Wang Shumei and Wen Lan, "My brother is here, he wants to treat us to lunch, let’s get ready and go."

Wen Lan was lying on Wang Shumei’s bed, feigning sleep, but opened her eyes upon hearing this, "What are we eating?"

"Whatever you choose." Lin Nianhe pointed at Wang Shumei, "Especially you, dress up a bit."

Wang Shumei was puzzled, "Why?"

"Oh, there’s a lady downstairs looking for you, seems to be Sun Guanghui’s mom."

"How do you know?"

"A face full of pettiness, and she said she’s looking for you, who else could it be?"

Wang Shumei frowned; before she could speak, Wen Lan leaped down from the upper bunk, rolled up her sleeves, and headed for the door, "Good timing, good timing! I’ve been struggling to find her place! Now she’s come right to the door!"

Lin Nianhe stopped her, advising, "Sister Lan, stay calm, why use a butcher’s knife to kill a chicken?"

After pondering for a while, Wen Lan gave her a thumbs-up, "That’s pretty ruthless of you."
