Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart -
Chapter 499 - 498: Making Money is So Boring
Chapter 499: Chapter 498: Making Money is So Boring
After having a bowl of sugar garlic pao mo, Sister Lan was entirely unsettled.
She glared at those two rascals, expressing for the umpteenth time, "I really want to beat you guys to death."
Lin Nianhe silently shrunk further behind Wang Xiaoxiao, unburdened by guilt as she left the front line to the injured party.
Wen Lan was so infuriated her teeth itched. She wanted to drag her out for a beating but was afraid of accidentally hitting Wang Xiaoxiao, leaving her in a dilemma.
Lin Nianhe didn’t want to do such moral-less acts either, but Wang Shumei finished eating faster than her. By the time she put down her chopsticks, Wang Shumei had already gone through the whole remorse process of admitting her faults, apologizing and washing the dishes, leaving Wen Lan with no grounds to lash out at her.
As the only person being directly targeted, Lin Nianhe had no better strategy than hiding for now.
She couldn’t possibly start a fight with Wen Lan, especially since the lamb pao mo earlier was truly delicious.
Right now, she needed a turn of events...
"Teacher Lin? Teacher Lin?"
Suddenly, a voice calling out like celestial music could be heard from outside.
Lin Nianhe sprung up in an instant, grinning sheepishly at Wen Lan, "Sister Lan, I know you want to beat me, but don’t do it now. I have some urgent errands to run and I’ll be right back!"
This urgent errand, Lin Nianhe thought, she could at least take all night to complete.
As for whether she could finish it tomorrow, that would depend on whether tomorrow’s Sister Lan still remembered this matter.
Wen Lan, hearing that Lin Nianhe had urgent matters to attend to, didn’t hold her back but rolled her eyes incessantly as she watched her leave.
Once outside, Lin Nianhe saw Wu Genmao and Cao Shijian standing at the door of her cabin. They had gained quite a bit of weight, indicating they’d had a comfortable year.
They went to the provincial city to pick up Zheng Shan and Bai Xiaojun when her leave to visit family ended. They were supposed to return the next day but got delayed because of Lin Nianhe’s trip to Xi City.
"You’re back," smiled Lin Nianhe, "Have you eaten?"
"Yeah," grinned Wu Genmao, showing his teeth, "Ate at the State-Owned Restaurant."
"Come in and talk."
Seeing Wu Genmao still carrying a large package, Lin Nianhe opened the door to let them in.
She poured each of them a cup of hot water before asking, "Where are Shanshan and Xiao Jun?"
"We dropped them off at Uncle’s place," Wu Genmao gulped down his water and placed the package on the floor, whispering mysteriously, "Teacher Lin, this is the money Sister Zheng asked us to bring back for you."
As he spoke, he fumbled in his pocket and then seemed to remember something, nudging Cao Shijian, "Where’s the ledger?"
"Huh? Oh, right, I have it here, I have it here."
As if snapping out of a dream, Cao Shijian hurriedly unbuttoned his overcoat and took out a warm ledger from inside, placing it on the table.
"You’ve worked hard," Lin Nianhe didn’t even look at the package, nor did she flip through the ledger. She just asked, "Was the journey back smooth?"
"Everything was fine," Wu Genmao replied, "Didn’t encounter anyone, and we kept the package close the whole time."
"Mhm."
Lin Nianhe nodded her head, turned around, and took out two thick red envelopes from the cabinet to hand them over, "Take these, buy some meat to eat."
"Ah? That’s not necessary, Sister Zheng has already given us money!" Cao Shijian blurted out his honest thoughts.
Wu Genmao nodded along, "Right, right, there is no reason to get paid twice for the same task."
"Sister Lirong gave you the money for fetching the kids, I’m giving this because you helped me retrieve money," Lin Nianhe insisted as she stuffed the red envelopes into their hands, "Take it, you’ve earned it."
Of course, they were happy to receive red envelopes. Wu and Cao weren’t the type to hide their emotions and immediately beamed with joy.
"Hahaha, thank you, Teacher Lin."
"Hehehe, thank you, Teacher Lin."
"Why thank me? I should be thanking you," Lin Nianhe smiled and took out oil-paper packages from the cupboard, already prepared, "I went to Xi City a while back and thought their sausages were quite good, so I brought some back for you two... Eat these... These pastries I brought from Beijing, I’ve been keeping them for you..."
Wu Genmao and Cao Shijian arrived with a large package, but they left with even more items.
As they walked home, they couldn’t help but feel grateful:
"Teacher Lin is really good to us!"
"In my life, I only acknowledge her as my big brother... oh no, big sister!"
"That’s right! We can’t be ungrateful!"
Inside the little house, Lin Nianhe locked the door before picking up the ledger to look through.
The ledger must have been handwritten by Zheng Lirong, with neat and delicate handwriting, detailing the items, quantities, unit prices, and total prices taken out from the cellar, almost identical to the accounts Lin Nianhe had kept.
After looking through the ledger, Lin Nianhe then opened her bag, which was full to the brim with bundles of money tied with paper strips, looking particularly beautiful.
The impact and satisfaction cash provided could not be compared to the dry numbers in a bank book.
"Sigh, making money is such a dull and easy task."
Lin Nianhe curled her lip, then yanked open a chair to sit at the table and started counting the money with a rustle.
After counting for a while and feeling tired, she used her mind to open the cash box in her space, stored the money inside, and counted it mentally.
She wasn’t Wong Xiao; she was very good at mathematics.
The final figure was eight yuan and sixty cents more than the two ledgers, rounded up by Zheng Lirong.
Lin Nianhe recorded the eight yuan and sixty cents at the end of the ledger, then picked up a book next to her, flipping through to find the mechanical drawings she needed, continuing to be a hardworking mover.
Across the door, Wen Lan curiously watched outside the window and asked Wang Shumei, who had just finished her chores, "What is Hezi doing? Can I go and massage her now?"
"She’s really busy right now, you better not go." Wang Shumei held back a laugh, "Let’s talk about it tomorrow."
"That’s easy for you to say, how could I possibly remember until tomorrow?"
"Then... I’ll remind you tomorrow."
"Okay!"
The next day, Wang Shumei "forgot" to remind Wen Lan.
And just like that, yesterday’s matters lightly passed by.
They got up early, as there were classes to attend today.
Today, Lin Nianhe brought many things, and for the first time, chose to ride her bicycle to school early in the morning, instead of being on the brink of being late.
The village school remained as quiet as ever, seemingly unchanged since she left.
By the time Lin Nianhe entered the classroom, Niuwa had already started his morning reading.
He was reading English.
Lin Nianhe made three trips back and forth to move everything from her bicycle into the classroom, wiped her fingers, and sat beside Niuwa asking, "How’s the learning going?"
Niuwa lifted his head and revealed a brilliant smile, then said "Good morning" to her in English.
His pronunciation was accurate, identical to the voice on the cassette.
Lin Nianhe ruffled his hair, smiling and saying, "You’re learning quickly."
"It’s not too difficult." Niuwa showed a grin and took out an egg for her, "Sister Hehe, this is for you to eat."
"Have you eaten yet?" Lin Nianhe cracked the eggshell and began peeling it while asking.
Niuwa nodded, "I have. Principal Mother boiled two for me, I ate one, this one’s for you."
Lin Nianhe glanced at him: "Didn’t the principal eat?"
"Uh..."
Of course, she had.
Two eggs, one for Principal Mother, the other for Sister Hehe.
