Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart
Chapter 472 - 471: Chinese New Year’s Eve Dumplings

Chapter 472: Chapter 471: Chinese New Year’s Eve Dumplings

Humans are creatures that excel at making associations; they always extend the existing evidence unlimitedly towards the "reality" they imagined, thereby creating an utterly unreliable misunderstanding out of logical order.

Later, Sie Yuguo said that he didn’t enter the room simply because he felt it was inappropriate to rashly enter a young lady’s boudoir, not because he thought those two inside were doing anything dubious.

His words were naturally dismissed as an excuse; not only did no one believe him, but he also ended up being physically double-teamed in the last hour of the year.

Su Yuncheng and Lin Nianhe obviously weren’t doing anything scandalous.

Su Yuncheng was painting a portrait of Lin Nianhe, capturing her nestled on a small sofa reading a book.

Lin Nianhe initially thought the posture was great and wouldn’t tire her no matter how long she sat. But with his gaze on her, she couldn’t absorb a word from the book and soon felt sleepy.

When Lin Huaizhou entered the room, she thought the performance was over and asked with innocent eyes, "Brother, are we making dumplings?"

Lin Huaizhou didn’t want dumplings. Looking at the two people a few meters apart, he just felt his face burning.

"Ahem... painting, painting?"

He uncomfortably moved behind Su Yuncheng.

Lin Nianhe’s place didn’t have an easel or a drawing board; Su Yuncheng was sitting behind the desk, using the most ordinary black and red pencils.

Seeing the mostly complete drawing on the paper, Lin Huaizhou was thoroughly convinced he had misunderstood.

Thus, he felt even more embarrassed.

Su Yuncheng glanced at him, everything unspoken in his eyes.

"Well... I’ll go get you something to eat," Lin Huaizhou fled.

Lin Nianhe looked puzzled: "What’s with my brother?"

Su Yuncheng glanced down, responding in a steady tone, "Probably worried you’re hungry."

He wasn’t precisely covering for Lin Huaizhou; rather, he was concerned about setting a bad impression on Lin Nianhe.

Lin Nianhe hadn’t thought much about it; her brother’s sudden entrance simply made her more alert. Her eyes darted around, then settled on Su Yuncheng, who was focused on drawing.

The tip of the pencil against the paper, the rustling sound it made seemed to quieten the room even more, making even the sound of snow falling on the window sills audible.

Su Yuncheng painted for nearly another half-hour before putting down the pencil. Holding the paper, he looked at Lin Nianhe, not very satisfied.

His art skills were crude and couldn’t fully capture her vivacity.

Seeing his motion, Lin Nianhe immediately stood up from the sofa and came over to look at the drawing.

"So beautiful!"

She couldn’t help but exclaim.

On the paper were only shades of black, white, and grey, yet she felt a gentle, warm tone that didn’t exist on the paper.

"It’s so beautiful."

She sighed again.

Lin Nianhe carefully held the paper, smiling at Su Yuncheng, "Can you draw one portrait for me every Chinese New Year’s Eve from now on?", then paused and added, "It doesn’t have to be every Chinese New Year’s Eve, just one every year is fine."

She thought to herself, his task didn’t have a set timetable, and he might not be home every Chinese New Year’s Eve.

Su Yuncheng replied, "Okay, every Chinese New Year’s Eve I’ll draw you one."

Lin Nianhe sharply sensed something was off, but before she could delve into her thoughts, she heard Mr. Lin and Aunt Lin’s voices from downstairs.

Su Yuncheng glanced at his watch, "It’s really time to eat dumplings soon, let’s go downstairs."

"Okay, wait a moment."

Lin Nianhe didn’t immediately follow him out, instead, she took out an empty folder from the bookshelf, carefully inserted the drawing inside, and secured it before leaving.

"Xiao He, Yuncheng, come downstairs, it’s time to make dumplings!"

"Okay! Coming!"

"You say, as a girl, what’s with the constant fighting? I think we shouldn’t even bother finding you a match. Now, every boy on the street runs away when they see you. It looks like you’re doomed to remain unmarried at home."

At the dinner table, Mrs. Wen continued to list Wen Lan’s "misdeeds."

She has been nagging from yesterday till today and it seems she will continue for the rest of her life.

Wen Lan’s ears were already calloused, totally immune, and unaffected, she just continued gobbling up her dumplings.

Wen family’s eldest brother and elder sister looked at Wen Lan helplessly and resignedly. Taking advantage of Mrs. Wen’s moment to catch her breath, the elder sister asked, "Xiao Lan, tell us the truth, did you find someone to date in the countryside?"

"Ah?" Wen Lan looked up blankly, her eyes full of confusion as she looked at her elder sister.

"What?" Mrs. Wen froze for a moment, then rolled her eyes as if she heard a big joke, "Her blockhead forming a relationship? If a boy is just a bit nice to her, she thinks he wants to swear brotherhood with her!"

The elder sister: "..."

She thought about it for a whole day and night, only to come up with this possibility. But now, seeing Xiao Lan’s reaction and listening to mom’s words... The elder sister had to admit she was mistaken.

Wen Tao laughed out loud from the side, nudging Wen Lan with his elbow: "Third sister, you really might end up not getting married, huh?"

Wen Lan rolled her eyes just like her mom: "Why must I get married? Is not getting married a crime?"

Upon hearing this, Mrs. Wen immediately exploded: "What kind of talk is that? What will you do without getting married as you grow older? Who will take care of you when you’re old..."

Upon hearing this, all the Wen children bowed their heads in unison, especially the eldest brother and elder sister, who wished they could bury their heads under the table.

There’s no other reason—both of them still didn’t have partners!

It was only because Wen Lan had not been home for a long time. Having just returned, Mrs. Wen focused all her attention on her, otherwise, it would definitely be them being urged to find partners.

Mrs. Wen kept on talking about finding a partner without lowering her tone, even as she served more dishes to the kids.

"Brother, help sister-in-law to the table, the dumplings are ready!"

Wang Shumei took out two plates of dumplings, Wang Damin and Wang Xiaoxiao immediately picked up the plates and walked steadily into the hall.

The sister-in-law was assisted to sit down, all smiles, and she pushed Qian Guozhu: "You hurry and serve the dumplings, don’t let the kids get burned."

"Sister-in-law, we are all grown up." Wang Damin grinned as he set down the plate, then turned around to take the plate from his sister, and gently pushed Wang Xiaoxiao next to sister-in-law, "Little sister, you keep our sister-in-law company, I’ll handle serving."

The sister-in-law’s eyes were full of smiles, hugging Xiaoxiao while looking at Damin, "Our Damin has grown up."

"Hey."

Wang Damin smiled shyly and turned back to the kitchen.

Wang Shumei brought the last pot of dumplings and placed it on the table.

"My sister must be tired." The sister-in-law tenderly wiped the sweat off Wang Shumei, putting the prepared soy sauce vinegar in front of her, "Eat up, have more."

"Not tired," Wang Shumei smiled just as broadly, "You eat, sister-in-law, don’t just fuss over us."

"Alright, alright, let’s all eat, let’s all eat."

After the dumpling meal, Qian Guozhu stopped Wang Shumei from cleaning up and told them to rest, starting to clear the dishes himself.

"I get pregnant and suddenly I’m like a big deal, not doing any work around here, becoming a totally hands-off manager," the sister-in-law said jokingly, shaking her head, "I’m not that delicate; it’s just you guys taking me seriously."

"You are our family’s greatest contributor." Wang Shumei smiled and cautiously touched the sister-in-law’s belly.

Outside, Qian Guozhu was washing dishes, while inside, the sisters-in-law whispered amongst themselves. As they spoke, the sister-in-law’s expression suddenly changed.

"Shumei, I, I think I’m going into labor..."
