Transmigration: Flirted with My Childhood Sweetheart -
Chapter 216 - 215
Chapter 216: Chapter 215
Lin Nianhe leaned against the window, watching Li Dahe’s face that looked like he was itching to punch someone, and shrank her head back guiltily.
If Su Yuncheng weren’t around, she wouldn’t mind taking a couple of kicks—it would just be respecting the elderly.
But now, she needed to maintain a good image.
It seems that Uncle Team Leader would have to suffer instead.
Lin Nianhe pressed her hands together and silently prayed—hopefully, no one would be blind enough to bother Uncle Team Leader at this time, it wasn’t her fault if they got kicked.
Just as she was thinking this, a commotion erupted outside.
Lin Nianhe heard it very clearly—it was... Zhao Zhuangshi’s voice.
"Damn, where did this little car come from? Looks way more impressive than a tractor, where’s the driver? Take us for a ride, will you?"
Hearing Zhao Zhuangshi’s voice, Lin Nianhe mourned for him in her heart for three seconds.
When she peeked out the window again, she indeed saw Li Dahe dash out like a gust of wind.
Lin Nianhe muttered to herself: "The achievement of only Zhao Zhuangshi getting injured has been reached."
Outside, there was chaos as chickens flew and dogs jumped. Li Dahe gave Zhao Zhuangshi a couple of kicks and made him clean the muddy handprints he’d left on the car hood before letting him leave.
He continued to shoo people away with his hands: "What are you all looking at? Not cooking? Not going to work? Anyone who’s late today will have their points deducted, no discussion!"
The villagers who had been gathered around the jeep finally dispersed.
Li Dahe didn’t come back, and the sound of starting a fire for cooking came from the front yard.
Su Yuncheng returned to the kitchen and opened the cloth bag on the stove, taking things out as he spoke: "I bought you some canned fruit, and sausage from the provincial city – eat the sausage soon before it goes bad. I also got you two bags of formula, some peach cakes, and baked sweets. If you don’t like cooking, just eat these, don’t starve."
He bought relatively few sausages and desserts; these things didn’t last long. But he didn’t skimp on the canned fruit, buying a variety of twenty cans in total.
He had bought so many cans partly because of Wu Genmao’s routine reports — Zhou Xu had conveyed to him that Lin Nianhe had eaten two cans of syrupy canned fruit in one day.
Lin Nianhe watched as he neatly placed the canned bottles into the cabinet and said, "That’s a lot of sweets, I’ll turn into a fatso if I eat them all."
The corner of Su Yuncheng’s mouth held a smile as he turned to glance at her, saying, "A bit of chubbiness is good; you are too skinny."
Lin Nianhe pouted: "Not at all."
While speaking, she moved a couple of steps forward and lowered her voice, "Wen Qingqing and Wen Ruannuan might have been looking for you because they want to become teachers. They asked me about it once before, but I had no connections and couldn’t help, so I didn’t agree."
Su Yuncheng’s hand paused slightly as he said, "There’s nothing I can do either."
Lin Nianhe raised an eyebrow, "Really?"
"Really." Su Yuncheng closed the cabinet door and looked into her eyes as he nodded seriously.
"Ah? Why do I remember someone saying before that they could arrange a..."
"Nianhe."
Su Yuncheng interrupted her words.
Lin Nianhe obediently closed her mouth, smiling as she looked back at him.
"You are different from them," he said.
If she needed it, he would carve out a way where there was none. As for others, forget it; he was quite busy.
Clear favoritism, without the slightest concealment.
Lin Nianhe pursed her lips and smiled, reaching out to hook her hand on the corner of his clothing, softly saying, "I just meant, if you have the connections, just help them if you can. They are really not cut out for farm work; they were so tired yesterday they fell asleep sitting up."
Su Yuncheng looked into her eyes, which held a smile that seemed to ask: They aren’t, but you are?
Lin Nianhe pretended not to understand his gaze and pushed him out casually: "Whether you’re here or not, go and let them know first, so they don’t worry."
"Okay, I’ll cook when I get back."
There was no way he would cook when he returned, Lin Nianhe thought, since she still needed to bring food to Wen Lan and the others, she made a pot of clear porridge and steamed some buns.
She really couldn’t be bothered to cook any vegetables, so she boiled a few eggs and sneaked open two bags of pickled mustard greens, pouring one into a bowl and putting the other in the lunch box.
When Su Yuncheng came back, the porridge was ready.
With some helplessness, he asked Lin Nianhe to sit back down, and he dished out the food.
The meal was eaten without much fuss.
After the meal, Lin Nianhe packed up the lunch box to take to the health clinic, and as she left, she said to Wang Shumei: "Sister Shumei, I’m going to deliver food to Sister Lan and the others at the health clinic; please let the principal know, okay?"
"Sure, go ahead." Wang Shumei took out a mesh bag with a lunch box in it, "Take this to them."
"Will do."
Lin Nianhe took the mesh bag, walked a few steps, then turned back and said to her, "Please tell Niuwa for me to review the characters he’s learned this morning. I’ll test him when I come back in the afternoon."
"Sure."
This was the second time riding in Sun Bo’s car, this time sitting in the passenger seat.
Lin Nianhe held the lunchbox and looked sideways at Su Yuncheng driving.
Su Yuncheng stared straight ahead, even though there wasn’t a single person or vehicle in front of them. He was very serious, and the car was moving very slowly.
Lin Nianhe asked him, "Brother Yuncheng, why so serious?"
Su Yuncheng responded, "You’re in the car."
Lin Nianhe was startled and then laughed.
Traveling by car to town was indeed much faster, just over ten minutes, and Su Yuncheng parked right in front of the health clinic.
Just as Lin Nianhe was about to get out of the car, he stopped her: "Are you planning to stay here all day?"
"No, I still have to go back to teach Niuwa in the afternoon," Lin Nianhe replied. "Besides, Cailan’s mother just has an external injury; if it’s nothing serious, she should be discharged today."
"Then I’ll wait for you," said Su Yuncheng.
"No need to wait, go attend to your important matters. We have bicycles," Lin Nianhe smiled and shook her head at him. "If there’s enough time, come by my place before leaving, I have some things to give to you."
"Okay."
Su Yuncheng sat in the car watching her get out and enter the health clinic until he could no longer see her, then he started the car and left.
Lin Nianhe carried the mesh bag and asked the nurses to find out where Cailan’s mother’s ward was. When she went in, she saw Wen Lan leaning against the end of the hospital bed, sleeping with her head propped up. Shen Cailan sat on the other side, holding her mother’s hand, tears falling down like raindrops.
She didn’t know how long the child had been crying; her eyes were as puffy as peach pits.
Lin Nianhe stepped softly to not wake Wen Lan, placed the lunch box to one side, and then looked toward Cailan’s mother.
Cailan’s mother had a bandage on her head, asleep, but her eyes were just like Shen Cailan’s, both red and swollen.
Lin Nianhe turned to Shen Cailan and asked softly, "Cailan, how is your mother doing?"
Shen Cailan looked at Lin Nianhe, her mouth turned down, and large tears welled up from her eyes.
Seeing her unceasing tears, Lin Nianhe’s heart lifted with concern.
She quickly went around the bed to Shen Cailan’s side, wiping her tears while asking, "Be good, Cailan, don’t cry, tell me what happened?"
Shen Cailan had been crying for too long, unable to speak. Her shoulders trembled continuously, as if from sorrow, but it looked more like fear.
Wen Lan was woken by the crying. She immediately opened her eyes, jumped up, and instinctively comforted, "Cailan, don’t be afraid, what happened?"
It was then that Lin Nianhe noticed Wen Lan’s eyes were red too.
