Chapter 131: Chapter 130 Not Even Letting Dogs Off

This night, who knows which rascal was throwing firecrackers everywhere, disturbing people’s sleep with loud bangs.

The police station was packed with people, and a lethargic big wolf dog was tied up at the entrance.

Except for Zhang Guang and the others who were still at the health center, it was a fully assembled gang.

"Nianhe, why don’t you stay at my place tonight," Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou said to Lin Nianhe after closing the door, "Your elder brother probably won’t be able to return tonight."

Lin Nianhe was just about to nod when the courtyard door was knocked.

"Aiyo, isn’t this unusual." Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou took an umbrella and went out to open the door.

Lin Nianhe glanced at her watch, it was almost ten o’clock.

She felt a sense of anticipation and couldn’t help but approach the window, looking through the hazy veil of rain towards the courtyard door.

Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou opened the door, and upon seeing the person outside, smiled: "Wow, what a rare sight, you who are hardly ever home have returned."

"Thank you, Sister-in-law, for the trouble," Su Yuncheng said as he held his umbrella, thanking Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou, "Is she asleep?"

"No, she’s waiting for you." Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou naturally distorted the truth, opened the door wider, and gestured with her mouth for Su Yuncheng to come in and fetch the person himself.

Su Yuncheng thanked her again, entered, and saw the girl by the window. A warmth flickered in his eyes.

Approaching the window, he curved his finger and tapped on her forehead through the glass.

"Let’s go, go home."

He said.

His voice wasn’t loud; he thought Lin Nianhe wouldn’t hear him.

Lin Nianhe did hear him.

She beamed a smile, nodded, then quickly got off the bed and didn’t forget to take her dirty clothes.

Su Yuncheng waited for her at the door, and just as she stepped out of the room, he handed her the umbrella to prevent any raindrops from falling on her.

Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou watched them from beside the courtyard door, grinning happily.

Just as they were about to leave, Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou came back to her senses and grabbed Lin Nianhe’s wrist: "Hold on, it’s so late, you’re taking Nianhe back to the production team?"

While she spoke, she looked back and forth between the two of them.

Su Yuncheng lived alone; a lone man and a young woman in one room... Although it was none of her business, she genuinely liked Lin Nianhe and, fearing that she might be taken advantage of, couldn’t help but speak up.

Su Yuncheng said: "Don’t worry, Sister-in-law, I’m having her stay at my place. There’s still work unfinished at the station; I have to head back soon."

"Ah, that’s fine then." Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou breathed a sigh of relief, releasing Lin Nianhe’s hand, "If there’s anything, you can come to me."

"Sure, thank you, Sister-in-law," Lin Nianhe waved at her, "You should rest early; you and Elder Brother worked hard today."

"Go ahead, get some rest early."

Sister-in-law Zhou waited until they left before locking the courtyard door, chuckling as she returned inside.

The rain was heavy and rapid, forcing the umbrella to dance.

Su Yuncheng unlocked the door and brought Lin Nianhe into the house before turning on the light.

He started a fire to boil water and asked her, "Are you hungry?"

"Not hungry; I ate at Sister-in-law’s house," Lin Nianhe stood behind him, shaking her head.

She pondered that she should be a bit frightened, or at least act a bit frightened.

Just as she was mustering the emotion, the man in front of her turned back.

Su Yuncheng sensed something off in Lin Nianhe’s tone.

Turning around, he saw her lips slightly pale and her cheeks tinged with an unhealthy flush.

"Nianhe, are you feeling unwell?" Su Yuncheng spoke, pressing his palm against her forehead.

"Umm..."

Lin Nianhe then felt a bit dizzy. Before, she had been tense, always fearful that someone might break into the Zhou Family’s house, implicating Eldest Sister-in-law Zhou and Xiao Fen.

Now that she saw him, her emotions relaxed, and a wave of exhaustion followed.

His hand felt slightly cool which was comforting on her head.

Lin Nianhe squinted her eyes like a kitten.

"I have a fever." Su Yuncheng moved his hand away, "Don’t worry, I’ll take you to the health clinic." He said and was about to grab the raincoat.

Lin Nianhe clutched his sleeve: "It’s okay, I’ll be fine after sleeping..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she collapsed weakly.

The second before she plunged into darkness, Lin Nianhe inwardly complained countless times about her body that succumbs easily to illness.

Yet her hand clinging to his sleeve did not loosen.

The health clinic was very busy today, as most of the doctors and nurses had gone next door to the police station to help treat injured prisoners.

With not many doctors at the clinic, only Zhou Fenyang was left to take care of the inpatients.

Luckily, there wasn’t much going on tonight, or she would be as busy as a spinning top.

She had just poured a cup of boiling water and hadn’t even taken a sip when a nurse burst in: "Dr. Zhou, there is a patient with a high fever who fainted, brought by Comrade Su."

The nurse looked eagerly at Zhou Fenyang, her small freckles on her face blushing with excitement.

Zhou Fenyang hurriedly put down the tea cup and asked while walking, "Which ward?"

"It’s over by your brother’s side..."

The nurse followed closely, as if afraid of missing something.

Zhou Fenyang knew this girl loved being where the action was, didn’t think much of it, and unconsciously straightened her braid.

By the time she arrived, Zhou Xu and Feng Wei had woken up and were both staring sideways at Su Yuncheng, their faces showing shock.

Zhou Fenyang didn’t even glance at the two, but went to a bed separated by two others from them, on whose footstool lay two raincoats, with raindrops ticking onto the floor.

Zhou Fenyang was about to speak to Su Yuncheng but first glimpsed the person on the bed.

It’s her again!

Zhou Fenyang couldn’t help but roll her eyes.

Su Yuncheng glanced back at her and said, "Caught in the rain and chilled, she has a fever."

Zhou Fenyang gave a sulky "Hmm", trying to convince herself to ignore her younger brother’s previous mentions of the relationship between her and Su Yuncheng, and stepped forward to take Lin Nianhe’s temperature.

Su Yuncheng continued, "She was born prematurely, has always been frail, please use a smaller dosage."

He knew it clearly as he had often heard Lin Huaizhou mention these things, being neighbors.

Zhou Fenyang clenched her teeth, "Hmm!"

Su Yuncheng, "She’s allergic to penicillin."

This was known from the last time Lin Nianhe had a fever.

Zhou Fenyang, "Got it!"

Just as Zhou Fenyang was waiting for Su Yuncheng to say something else, he fell silent.

He took a handkerchief out of his pocket and wiped her hair that was wet from the rain.

Zhou Fenyang bit her lower lip, spoke coldly, "If you’re not well, don’t run out in the rain; you’re not a child anymore, don’t people still need to teach you this? Running to the health clinic in the middle of the night, this isn’t exactly a good place!"

Zhou Fenyang thought Su Yuncheng would retort coldly.

Instead, Su Yuncheng nodded earnestly, "Yes, I will take better care of her in the future."

Zhou Fenyang, "..."

She didn’t want to talk anymore.

Lin Nianhe’s fever was quite high, 39.4 degrees.

After she was given an injection, Su Yuncheng stood up and said to Feng Wei and Zhou Xu who were still watching them, "You two watch her for a while, I’ll go fetch some water."

"Ah, right, right."

Su Yuncheng quickly left, Zhou Xu and Feng Wei exchanged a glance, both swallowing nervously.

"I heard from Uncle Liu, Sister-in-law was kidnapped by those guys today," Feng Wei whispered gossip to Zhou Xu, "Brother Cheng’s face was darker than the time he went alone to the opposing headquarters."

"It’s said that none escaped, all were caught," Zhou Xu nodded, still feeling the fright, "even the dogs raised by those guys were kicked a couple of times by Brother Cheng."
