Transmigration: A Farm Girl’s Brocade
Chapter 734 - 356 Relatives_1

Chapter 734: Chapter 356 Relatives_1

The next day, light snow still flurried outside in the biting cold wind.

Qian Yixiu had just soothed her well-fed twin brothers to sleep when Lady Cui arrived.

Lady Cui was dressed in a black brocade cloak with colorful random floral patterns, a dark red satin embroidered jacket with woollen edges, and a deep purple horse-faced skirt, looking radiant, dignified, and regally elegant. If one overlooked the slightly slackened skin, it felt as if the beautiful and cheerful young woman of many years ago had returned.

Confidence truly is an indescribable little thing, lost by some, who search for it their whole lives in vain. Yet sometimes, it can be recaptured through an unexpected opportunity, inspiring one to rise afresh.

Lady Cui, once as directionless as a headless fly from her setbacks, had astonishingly regained her footing, thanks to having twin grandsons.

Without love, there is kinship; without a natal family, there are grandchildren. There’s always hope.

Lady Cui couldn’t contain the joy in her eyes as she gazed at her grandsons by the crib.

After she finished looking, Qian Yixiu reported on the twins’ progress over the past day and night and then said, "Mother-in-law, the master mentioned yesterday that the Crown Prince is heartbroken over the tragic death of his sister and is in deep sorrow. He would like to invite him to dinner tonight, so we can offer our consolation. I was thinking, it would be even better to also invite my mother and Little Master Hongji..."

Lady Cui nodded, "Ah, we also heard about it from the father-in-law last night. Princess Jiaqian and her daughter are truly pitiful. I glimpsed Princess Jiaqian as a child; she was indeed a gentle and pretty little girl. The Tan family must have no conscience to ill-treat such a good person." She wiped away a tear and continued, "Alright, I will have the kitchen prepare a vegetarian feast and ask the External Affairs Office to send an invitation to the Qian family."

Qian Yixiu nodded in thanks.

Lady Cui then added with regret, "The ancestors and the father-in-law said that since the Emperor is furious, it would not be appropriate for us to celebrate my grandsons’ birthday extravagantly. We will only invite a few relatives over for a meal."

Qian Yixiu responded, "Hmm, the master said the same. We should not seek discomfort at this time."

Lady Cui looked once more at the twin brothers, her expression pained, as though they had endured great hardship, before sighing and leaving.

Since Qian Yixiu was expecting Zhu Sujin and the Little Monk, she could not continue sleeping in the bedroom. Though Sister Zeng was quite opposed to it, she had to prepare the room on the eastern side, close the windows tightly, hang heavy curtains, heat the kang until it was scalding, and then burn two basins of silver frost charcoal in the room.

In the afternoon, when Qian Yixiu got up from her rest, she came to the kang in the eastern room. Positioned beneath the north window, she could lean on it obliquely to see outside.

For nearly a month, she had sat up in bed to look outside, only seeing a tiny patch of sky and a few trees.

Sitting up straighter, she greedily gazed out the window. The frost on the glass wasn’t too thick – peering through the clear frost, the view outside looked hazy and slightly distorted. She could vaguely see snowflakes fluttering down, blanketing the ground, the trees, and the layered cornices in silver, the whole world enveloped in white.

By comparison, she felt the warmth within the room was all the more like spring.

Sister Zeng started nagging again, "Eldest young lady, don’t get too close to the window; it’s cold there, and you’ll fall ill. If you get sick during your confinement, you’ll never fully recover in this lifetime."

Qian Yixiu obediently leaned back against the pillows, turning her head to look at the two little ones still asleep. Their small bed had also been moved beside the large kang.

At that moment, she heard Bai Zhu enter the yard and call through the curtain, "Eldest young lady, our madam, young madam, Little Monk, Mingming, and Jingjing have all arrived at the estate and have gone to Wanshou Hall to pay respects to the ancestors first."

Hearing that her brother and sister had also come, Qian Yixiu was overjoyed, having not seen them for a long time. She also instructed the servant to prepare some snacks that the children loved in the small kitchen.

Shortly, Grandma Wu, mother, the Little Monk, Mingming, and Jingjing all arrived. They first warmed themselves by the charcoal basin in the main room to dispel the cold before entering the side room.

Mingming and Jingjing rushed to the side of the crib and upon seeing the sleeping twins, they were very conscious to keep their voices down. Jingjing said in disbelief, "They’re so small, even smaller than our brother."

Mingming matter-of-factly stated, "They are our nephews, a generation younger than our brother, so of course they are smaller."

Realization dawning on her, Jingjing looked up at Qian Yixiu and asked, "Sister, when will the nephews start to talk? I really want to hear them call me ’little auntie’."

Mingming quickly added, "And ’uncle,’ too."

Qian Yixiu smiled and pinched their little faces, replying, "Next year, they will start calling you ’little auntie’ and ’uncle’."
