Chapter 711: Chapter 346: Monks Can’t Marry Wives_2

Lady Wu also scolded Qian Manxia, "You’re a mother of several children, yet you speak without thinking. What if your son-in-law misunderstands?"

Qian Manxia quickly replied with a smile, "I was just saying she’s been close with General Liang since childhood. I didn’t say anything wrong. Could it be that General Liang took a liking to Yixiu back then, which is why he often sent gifts to both Yixiu and our family?"

Hearing this, Jingjing immediately asked Pan Yue, "Mother, Brother Hongji also often sends gifts to Jingjing and our family. Does that mean he has taken a liking to Jingjing too?"

Her words made everyone at the table laugh. Lady Wu replied with a teasing scold, "Silly girl, Brother Hongji is a monk; he cannot take a wife." Only a few people like Zhu Sujin, Pan Yue, and Qian Yixiu know about the little monk’s secularization at the age of twenty.

"Oh," Jingjing pouted, looking disappointed.

The laughter grew even louder among the group.

Seeing Pan Yue’s eyes light up, Yixiu was about to say something but held back, as if she thought of some unspeakable secret, grinning with her mouth pursed... Yixiu also laughed, thinking that if it really could be so, nothing would be better.

The little monk at the other table did not know why they were laughing and turned to ask, "What’s so funny?"

Mingming spoke loudly, "Grandma said you’re a monk and can’t have a wife."

Hongji blushed and laughed it off. The men also laughed along.

Turning around, Zhu Sujin quietly asked Prince Consort Pan, "Mr. Pan, would you still be willing to share the worries of the Imperial Court? If you are willing, I shall report to His Majesty and ask you to come out of retirement."

Prince Consort Pan said with a smile, "Thank you, Your Highness, but the ambition of my youth has been worn away by time. Now I just want to live a comfortable life, playing with my grandkids and teaching them."

Zhu Sujin nodded with a smile, "That’s good. Mr. Pan teaching and nurturing talent is also cultivating pillars of the state for our Daqian."

After the meal, everyone respectfully saw Zhu Sujin off. Liang Jinzhao also said to the little monk, "Great-grandma and my great-grandfather worry about you a great deal. Visit us at the Liang Mansion when you’re free."

The little monk smiled, "Poor Monk will visit tomorrow and even bring gifts for the old benefactor."

When Qian Yixiu and Liang Jinzhao, along with the nine members of the House of Animals, made their grand return to the Liang Mansion, it attracted many onlookers even in the dark. Their rooms in the Lianxiang Courtyard were prepared in advance, and the animals were quite curious about their new home. After touring the courtyard, Bai Zhu led the maids in cleaning them up before they settled down for the night in their rooms.

The next day, Yixiu led the House of Animals to Wanshou Hall. After some playtime, they were taken by Old Duke Liang and Duke Liang to the training ground in the front courtyard. Monkey Brother was fairly familiar with Old Duke Liang and gave him face accordingly.

On the twentieth, before dawn, Venus twinkled in the sky. Riding horses, Liang Jinzhao and Liang Gao, along with Yixiu and Zi Zhu in two carriages, headed towards the west city gate accompanied by the House of Animals. Halfway there, they ran into the little monk’s carriage leaving the Qian family.

The day before, Liang Jinzhao had informed the elders that they would visit Baoguo Temple tomorrow to pray for children. Since he would inspect Pili Camp, they would stay overnight at Lan Courtyard, where Yixiu would wait for him while also organizing her dowry estate.

The old ancestors and the Eldest old lady eagerly hoped for them to have children soon, as the Fifth Generation of the Liang Family had only one girl. Hearing about the plan to pray for children, they readily agreed.

Upon reaching the city gate, dawn was just breaking, and the gates had just opened.

The two horses and three carriages left the city, heading towards West Mountain. Arriving at the base of the mountain, Liang Jinzhao had Liang Gao and Zi Zhu return to Lan Courtyard ahead of them.

Both Liang Gao and Zi Zhu were reluctant. Liang Gao said, "Young Master, I am not at ease with only you and Lady accompanying you to offer prayers."

Zi Zhu also vigorously nodded in agreement.

Impatiently, Liang Jinzhao said, "I’m grown up now, what’s there to worry about? After Lady and I offer our prayers, Junior Hongji will invite us for a vegetarian meal, and then we’ll enjoy roaming the mountain. We’ll probably be back at Lan Courtyard by evening. You go ahead and prepare the meals, heat up the kang, as the room hasn’t been occupied for some days and it’s cold." He thought for a moment, then added, "Maybe, if we play till late, we might even stay overnight at the temple, so if we don’t return tonight, don’t make a fuss about it. We’ll be back tomorrow."

Without waiting for further objections, he had Yixiu get into the little monk’s carriage and let the House of Animals descend before ascending the mountain himself.

Unable to do anything, Liang Gao and Zi Zhu had no choice but to take the two empty carriages to Lan Courtyard first.

The carriage driven by the little monk belonged to Baoguo Temple, and even the coachman was a monk from Baoguo Temple.
