Chapter 668: Chapter 328 Search_2
Pearl Kid covered his lower body with his chubby hands and shook his head, "It’s not cold. If I weren’t afraid of others seeing my little sparrow and getting embarrassed, I wouldn’t want to wear pants at all."
What a little rascal, how can he say anything and everything?
Qian Yixiu’s face turned red as Monkey Brother, and she quickly turned her head away.
The Little Monk also blushed with shyness and couldn’t stop laughing.
Liang Jinzhao was completely unruffled and picked him up, laughing, "You wear pants because you’re embarrassed. Isn’t it even more embarrassing to say it out loud?"
Pearl Kid suddenly understood and said, "Exactly, how come I didn’t think of that? Uncle Liang is so clever."
His words made the Little Monk burst out laughing.
They played in the cabin for half a day until Sister Zeng knocked on the door to get Qian Yixiu to come back to her cabin to take her medicine, and that’s when Pearl Kid and the little squirrel returned to the Clam Shell House.
Back in her cabin, Sister Zeng asked Qian Yixiu, "How come I thought I heard the sound of a child’s laughter outside Little Master Hongji’s door?"
Qian Yixiu casually replied, "It was the boatwoman’s child, asking for vegetarian snacks from Monk Hongji."
The cook on the boat indeed had a two-year-old child with her.
Although Qian Yixiu, Liang Jinzhao, the Little Monk, and the others were eager to return, traveling by boat cannot be rushed. Luckily, they knew each other well and often spent time chatting, playing chess, along with the amusing companionship of Pearl Kid and the House of Animals, making the days bearable.
The Little Monk had to chant scriptures with the Old Monk at fixed times every day, and aside from sleeping, Liang Jinzhao was almost always with Qian Yixiu. He had an excuse, as it was a critical time, and he needed to protect her at all times. He also didn’t allow Qian Yixiu to wander freely on the deck, fearing she might get hit by a stray arrow.
Qian Yixiu knew she had a special mission to fulfill and, thinking of Zhu Sujin who was shot by a poisoned arrow, was scared, so she cooperated fully. She was an active person and felt very uncomfortable cooped up in the small cabin all day, eager for someone to talk to her at all times. But with Sister Zeng and Zi Zhu, aside from sewing, there wasn’t much common ground for conversation, and she preferred talking with the Little Monk and Liang Jinzhao.
Now, Liang Jinzhao managed to combine business with pleasure, and his heart blossomed with joy. He sought every opportunity to be with Qian Yixiu, fearing that once back in Capital City, she would move into the depths of her courtyard, making it difficult for him to see her again.
This was the ninth day on the boat, and also the last. Tomorrow morning, they would reach Dabao Jetty, disembark the boat and take a carriage. Due to the colder climate in the North, the part of the river by the HB border was frozen.
In the afternoon, the Little Monk went to chant scriptures with the Old Monk, leaving only Qian Yixiu and Liang Jinzhao in the cabin playing chess. Qian Yixiu grew impatient with Go, finding there were too many pieces and, more importantly, she wasn’t very good at it. They played Connect Five, and Qian Yixiu almost always won.
She won because she cheated, taking back moves.
At the start of each game, Liang Jinzhao took it very seriously, usually cornering Qian Yixiu into a losing position before long. Qian Yixiu didn’t like that and, pouting, said, "Oh no, I didn’t mean to put my piece here, I meant to put it there." Then, she moved the piece to another square.
Although Qian Yixiu knew it wasn’t right to take back her moves, she enjoyed winning when she played chess. She used to play Connect Five with Zhu Sujin and the Little Monk, and Zhu Sujin took the game very seriously and wouldn’t let her win, which made losing every game quite frustrating. It was like playing mahjong in a past life; even if it was just for fun, losing would always feel unpleasant.
The Little Monk was better; he would let her win with a laugh when she cheated. But the Little Monk was just too adorable, and she couldn’t bring herself to cheat every game, letting him win a few as well.
Uncle Liang didn’t have the slightest bit of the young lad’s traits, so Aunt Yixiu certainly didn’t want to lose to him. Thus, she cheated almost every game.
Seeing Qian Yixiu’s pouting red lips, Liang Jinzhao would just laugh and pick up his own piece to play again, until Qian Yixiu won.
Seeing her cheerful expression when she won the game made Liang Jinzhao feel sweeter than honey, and he couldn’t get enough of it.
Even Pearl Kid, who stayed in the Clam Shell House, understood their game. When Qian Yixiu won another round and was overjoyed, Pearl Kid spoke up, "Mom, even without seeing, I know you won because you cheated, and Uncle Liang is letting you win."
Qian Yixiu patted her chest and scolded, "Silly boy, what do you know? Everyone can make mistakes, and I allow him to correct them; it’s his own choice not to. Sticking to the same path leads to defeat, right?"
Pearl Kid added, "Mom, you’re the one being silly. Uncle Liang is losing on purpose, just to see you happy and foolish."
