Chapter 594: Chapter 301 Seeing a Doctor_2

The next day, Qian Yixiu took out three sets of Jinlian Fen Shi series cosmetics and had them delivered to Liang Jinyu of the Liang Mansion and the Fu Minglan sisters of the Fu Mansion. She only brought ten sets of these cosmetics to Capital City and, having given away seven sets, now only had three remaining. She remembered Fu Minglan’s younger sister, Fu Mingzhu, who was a well-mannered and adorable little girl of just twelve years, and decided to give her one set as well.

She had originally planned to return the purse Liang Jinyu had given her the day before along with the cosmetics but was worried that if it passed through other hands in the Liang Mansion, it wouldn’t look good for outsiders to see it. Thinking it over, she figured they would meet again at future gatherings and decided to give it back to Liang Jinyu then.

On the fifteenth day of the first lunar month, the Lantern Festival, Qian Yixiu had no interest in the lanterns. The day before, she proposed to make a trip to Baoguo Temple to pray for blessings for the Qian family elders and the Empress Dowager, and also to offer incense for the Elder Princess’s grandmother whom she had never met. At the same time, she wanted to visit Old Master Beikong, as it had been more than six months since their last meeting. In passing, she would also bring the Little Monk back home to stay for a few days, as both Pan Yue and she missed him. When they returned to Daci Temple at the end of February, they wouldn’t be able to see him again until the end of the year.

The Old Monk enjoyed a few of the vegetarian dishes she made, so at the last part of the Yin hour, she got up and, together with Lady He, prepared two food boxes. Before daybreak, they rode out of the city in a horse carriage, accompanied by Monkey Brother and Blue Bead among others.

The carriage arrived at the foot of West Mountain in about an hour and a half. Because of the winter snow, the Panshan Road was hard to navigate, so Qian Yixiu and her companions got out of the carriage and started climbing the mountain themselves. Other young ladies of noble families might not be able to do it, but she had absolutely no problem climbing. It took nearly an hour to reach Baoguo Temple, and it was just the beginning of Noon.

Since it was the Lantern Festival, not many people had come to burn incense. Just as they entered the temple, in the blink of an eye, Monkey Brother disappeared; he had surely gone to find the Little Monk. Although it was Monkey Brother’s first visit to Baoguo Temple, Qian Yixiu was not worried about him.

She went into the great hall to pray and offer incense, and donated two hundred taels of silver each.

After taking care of the formalities, she asked a Little Monk at the entrance of the grand hall about Old Master Beikong’s meditation room. The Little Monk put his palms together and said, "Amitabha, this poor Monk was sent by Uncle Monk Hongji to guide the lady."

The Little Monk was only about five or six years old, chubby, and quite charming, bearing some resemblance to the Little Monk Hongji that Qian Yixiu had met initially.

A feeling of affection arose in Qian Yixiu, prompting her to take out several pieces of rose jam-filled candy from her purse and give them to him. The Little Monk looked at the red candies, wanting to refuse but also not wanting to let go, struggled with the decision for a while before finally accepting them. He popped a piece into his mouth, the sweetness causing his eyes to squint and a smile to appear involuntarily on his face.

They walked toward the back of the temple, just crossing a small arched bridge where there was no water below, only dark boulders visible. Then they saw a tall figure with bowed head walking briskly past them. He had already gone a few steps beyond before stopping, turning back, and, to their surprise, it turned out to be Uncle Liang.

He looked much thinner, dressed in a bright blue round collar arrow sleeve robe, with a stern complexion.

He also spotted Qian Yixiu and strode back with long steps. It wasn’t appropriate for her to avoid him at this point, so Qian Yixiu stiffly stood her ground.

Liang Jinzhao said, "Yixiu, have you also come to offer prayers and incense?"

Qian Yixiu nodded her head.

Liang Jinzhao added, "I have come to pray for my great-grandmother; she..." He seemed unable to continue, his eyes reddening.

Startled, Qian Yixiu knew Old Lady Liang to be a kind and open-hearted old lady, and she too hoped for her healthy and long life. She asked hurriedly, "Is Old Queen Grandma unwell?"

With a deep sigh, Uncle Liang said, "Yes, she has been unwell for some time, and a couple of days ago, she caught a cold and has been even worse. Her condition is serious, and numerous Imperial Physicians from the Imperial Hospital have been unable to do anything."

Shocked, Qian Yixiu said, "Are you going to ask Old Master Beikong to treat Old Queen Grandma?" Seeing Liang Jinzhao nod, she added, "Master Beikong is a brilliant physician; if he steps in, he will surely be able to cure Old Queen Grandma’s illness."

Uncle Liang said, "I hope so."

They walked on together. After passing through a grove of plum trees, they saw a meditation hall with its white walls and grey tiles towering ahead. By the courtyard entrance, the Little Monk stood hand in hand with Monkey Brother, already waiting there.

Seeing them, the Little Monk came forward with a smile, "Senior Liang, sister, the Master calculated yesterday that you would come today and asked the dining hall to specially prepare a vegetarian feast."

Liang Jinzhao nodded.

Qian Yixiu said, "My mother misses you; she asked me to come and fetch you to stay at our home for a while."
