Chapter 345: Chapter 204: Supporting The Scene_3
Most of the people who came were brought by Song Huaijin and Liang Jinzhao. Song Huaijin had already arrived, and since Liang Jinzhao went to pick up Prince Consort Pan, he asked Second Young Master Liang Jintong to come in his stead.
These young gentlemen really came here because they couldn’t refuse the face given by Liang Jinzhao and Song Huaijin. Today, those who were supposed to go to school went to school, and those who were supposed to be on duty were on duty. To support the opening and boost the crowd, they had even asked for a day off.
Many more had promised to come after they finished their official duties in the evening or after their classes were done.
The young gentlemen in their fine clothes were initially rather reluctant, feeling that as sons of noble families, taking leave to support a small shop was beneath them.
But when they heard Mr. Pan would come, they immediately got excited. And upon hearing that an "Extraordinary Masterpiece" would also be displayed, they were even more expectant.
After patiently listening to the two employees finish their drivel, they walked into the shop. As soon as they did, their eyes couldn’t take it all in. Was this, this, this how a fragrance powder shop should be arranged?
They made a round by the counter first, looked at the paintings on the wall, and then examined the cosmetics in the counters, starting to pull out their wallets. When asked about the prices, they found the products not cheap at all, even more expensive than the rouge and powders from Ai Shulin.
The cheapest box of fragrance grease was two taels of silver, the "Whitening Series" eight taels of silver, the "Water Soft Series" eighteen taels of silver, both the "Lotus FragrantSeries" and "Pearl Rhyme Series" were eighty-eight taels of silver, and so on.
For those who wanted custom orders, meaning specifying special packaging boxes such as jade carving, gold carving, silver carving, the price was even higher. This was tailor-made for families who were marrying off their daughters, with prices negotiable.
However, these were all sons of wealthy families, and they had money. As long as the goods were of good quality, they didn’t care about spending more. After listening to the introductions and looking at the samples, they tried them and found them indeed not bad. They bought some for themselves, and then for the women of their families too.
Since they were waiting for Prince Consort Pan and also to see that "Extraordinary Masterpiece," they weren’t in a hurry and took their time looking and buying.
Then, some more people arrived, mostly ladies, who had heard that the shop which provided cosmetics to the ladies of Liang Mansion was opening today and had come specially to buy cosmetics.
Among the many people who entered, there was one special individual. He wore a blue round-neck silk robe and a gray headscarf. His head was nearly always bowed as he listened to the waiter’s introduction and looked at the dazzling array of cosmetics, also choosing a few boxes to buy.
At this time, Qian Yixiu was sitting in a guest room on the second floor, listening to the noise outside. She was somewhat anxious in her heart, uncertain if she could achieve the expected effect.
At the start of noon, Liang Jinzhao brought Pan Zi’an over. At this point, those protectors became useful, though Qian Yixiu thought calling them "security" seemed more appropriate.
When Pan Zi’an entered the shop, he paused for a moment and said, "This is quite an innovative approach. Indeed, there’s a bit of novelty. Hmm, not bad."
Liang Jinzhao led him to the second floor, where Qian Yixiu also smiled and welcomed him at the staircase landing.
After Pan Zi’an "led the group" on a tour, Qian Yixiu took him in front of an embroidered screen. She cleared her throat and raised her voice, saying, "Mr. Pan, this is the screen my mother embroidered, named ’Hope.’ She was adamant about me bringing it to the Northland because she deeply believed that as long as my father saw this screen, he would rush back home to see her at breakneck speed. Little did she know, poor bones of Pine River in the Northland are still dream figures of the spring boudoir."
As she spoke, her eyes turned red and her voice began to choke up. She took several deep breaths to steady her emotions and, once her expression returned to normal, she continued, "However, I will not sell this screen because I cannot bear to part with it. Every stitch, every thread, every flower, every leaf on this piece of embroidery represents my mother’s labor through thousands of long nights and her unending longing for her distant husband over ten years. I cannot defy her wishes and yet I am so keen on fulfilling them. So, I have brought it here all the way to display, to let the people of the Northland see it... Now, I have an audacious request and I wish to ask Mr. Pan to ’unveil’ this screen."
Pan Zi’an was also moved by the story and although he had never heard of "unveiling" before, he understood the sentiment behind the word.
He bowed solemnly to the screen and said, "To unveil this screen is an honor for me, Pan."
After speaking, he lifted his hand, and the red silk on the screen slid to the floor, leaving him and a crowd of people stunned.
This was a screen measuring three meters in length and two meters in height. It was framed with golden nanmu wood, with the character "Hope" carved in seal script at the top center. Embedded in the middle of the screen was an embroidered piece measuring six feet long and four feet high.
The entire piece shimmered with radiant splendor, dazzling and magnificent.
