Chapter 272: Chapter 177 Like My Own Mother_3

They both went to the practice field to spar, while Qian Yixiu played with Monkey Brother in the courtyard. There were many exotic flowers and rare herbs in the garden, among which were some treasures.

Ever since her previous life, Qian Yixiu had loved flowers. She had acquired some fine specimens before, but had sold them due to her family’s poverty. Now, trying to find quality flowers had become a difficult task. Remembering the Old Monk’s craving earlier, she was sure he would come asking for lotus leaves again. With that in mind, she thought it would be better to ask for a few good pots of flowers on her departure to cultivate at home.

At noon, an old monk came; he was the abbot of Daci Temple, Master Hong Yuan. In his sixties, slightly overweight, Master Hong Yuan did not possess the ethereal aura of the Old Monk, but his words and behavior were more befitting of a high monk.

Aside from the Old Monk, everyone paid their respects to Master Hong Yuan with a bow.

Master Hong Yuan returned the greeting with a prayer gesture and took a long look at Qian Yixiu. Her eyelid twitched again. Could he also see that she was different?

However, judging from the Old Monk’s attitude, even if they knew she came from another world, they would not treat her like a demon.

So she gave Master Hong Yuan a big, broad smile.

Master Hong Yuan said with a smile, "Amitabha, with the Little Benefactor’s arrival, I seem to have the good fortune of enjoying fine cuisine."

Qian Yixiu replied with a smile, "If so, I will visit often to let Master Hong Yuan eat well."

Master Hong Yuan laughed and said, "An occasional indulgence is sufficient, for monks should refrain from worldly desires of the palate." Realizing his comment might be inappropriate, he recited another Buddhist chant.

Old Master Beikong, meanwhile, appeared oblivious to it all.

The dishes made from Golden Lotus Leaves were exceptionally delicious, with a unique fragrance that delighted the taste buds. Except for the Old Monk and Little Monk, the rest felt embarrassed to eat more of the lotus leaf dishes and instead ate other vegetarian offerings. The two monks, young and old, showed no restraint, focusing on their own meals without hesitation.

After the meal, the Old Monk told Qian Yixiu, "Bring some lotus leaves to the temple in a few days. When autumn comes and the lotus roots are ready, bring some of those as well."

The Old Monk was really not at all bashful about his requests.

Qian Yixiu said, "There are not many lotus leaves left, Master. If you really wish to eat them, we can only bring a few more. But we cannot provide the roots this year, they are seed lotus, too small. Next year, when the lotus roots are bigger, we will bring some for you."

The Old Monk said, "Seed roots will do, just bring a few, let me have a taste first. I really crave that flavor."

The Old Monk’s gluttony made everyone besides the siblings blush a little.

As a monk’s request was not lightly refused, Qian Yixiu had to agree, nodding her head. She also mentioned, "I see many rare plants here, could you spare a few for me? I would like to take them back to grow."

The Old Monk chuckled and said, "The Little Benefactor sure knows not to come off worse in a deal. I ask for your lotus roots, and you ask for my flowers. Very well, there’s no need to split anything, I will simply gift you a few pots. Just remember to bring more roots in the autumn."

Thus, Qian Yixiu carried a pot on her back, Qian Yeejin carried one and held another, Huang Tie held a large one, and also made Monkey Brother, who was sitting in the basket, hold a pot as they left Daci Temple.

Five pots of flowers in total—two peonies, one chrysanthemum, one camellia, and one orchid.

Liang Jinzhao and the Little Monk escorted them outside the courtyard, and the Little Monk added, "You two Benefactors should come to play at the temple often. Your place is too chaotic; I don’t want to go there."

Qian Yeejin said, "My mother is thinking about you, she told Little Master to visit her when you’re free."

Upon hearing this, the Little Monk couldn’t hide the smile in his eyes and nodded, "Alright, I will visit Auntie Qian soon."

Liang Jinzhao was surprised by the Little Monk’s use of worldly address and asked, "Junior Brother, why did you use such a secular term?"

Watching the siblings’ departing figures, the Little Monk said, "I don’t know why, but they feel like they’re my brother and sister from my worldly life, and Auntie Qian is like my mother."

Liang Jinzhao opened his mouth, then held back the words he wanted to say.

As their oxcart reached the wilderness, they saw their home’s courtyard gate wide open with Qian Duoduo standing at the entrance, looking out. Upon seeing them return, he ran towards them, shouting, "Our whole family has come to eat at your place! We didn’t come empty-handed; we brought meat, fish, and mushrooms."

The siblings exchanged glances; Lady Wang was indeed quite shrewd.

Duo Duo reached the oxcart, and Huang Tie stopped to lift her aboard.

Looking at Qian Yixiu, Duo Duo said, "Sister Embroidery, are you still mad at Duo Duo? Don’t worry, I won’t ask for your treasured lotus leaves anymore."

Those words sounded a bit odd.

Qian Yixiu replied, "Sister isn’t mad at Duo Duo. If you want lotus leaves from Moonlit Lotus Pond, you can pick as many as you wish."

Duo Duo looked Qian Yixiu up and down, not quite believing it, and said, "Really? Great-grandma said you were so fond of the lotus leaves that you jumped and cried, even making a big hole in your yard."

Qian Yixiu rolled her eyes in exasperation. That great-grandma, with her skewed speech, was still infuriating. She surely disliked the commotion at home and deliberately slandered her.

Annoyed, Qian Yixiu retorted, "The hole wasn’t made by me jumping; it was Brother Jin who did it. If you don’t believe me, ask Great-grandma."

"Sister!" Qian Yeejin shouted in protest but seeing his sister pouting unhappily, he didn’t have the heart to expose her fib.

Once inside the courtyard, aside from Cheng Yue, the whole family sat under the tree, chatting and enjoying the cool shade, with Lady Wang eagerly helping to pick vegetables.

Duo Duo ran to Old Woman Qian and reported, "Great-grandma, Sister Embroidery said she didn’t make that hole by jumping, Brother Jin did."

The usually cheerful old lady’s face fell in an instant. In front of Qian Yixiu, she didn’t want to accuse her daughter of digging a hole, so she scolded Duo Duo with a twisted mouth, "What’s with you, girl, always causing trouble? My Jinwa is the best and most well-behaved child. Why are you making up such stories? Go away, go away..."

Qian Yiduo ended up pouting, and Lady Wang, frustrated, threw the vegetables she was holding on the ground, then thought better of it and picked them up to continue with her task.
